Was a little bored yesterday so hopped on the internet to look at bikes Went to ebIke to fill out some bogus quotes to see how much the insurance would cost and I was blown away by the cost! £6000 fully comp for a 2001 Ducati 748! At first I thought it was my age (26) and experience (3 years - 1 on big bikes), but no amount of fiddling with the NCB or years experience seem to change it that much. I then reverted back to my original details and used my parents address where it could be garaged - £4500 cheaper! (Not that I would insure my bike to their address)
Bottom line is in you live in central(ish) london and don't have a garage then you're screwed! Makes me wonder about the near future and will I ever be able to trade the SV for something sportier so long as I live where I do and don't have a garage.

Doesn't suprise me all all, I grew up around Paddington area and had a 125 for years (about 12-13 years ago now) and I was paying twice as much as my car insurance then.
That's just London I'm afraid, bikes get pinched left right & centre, I don't reckon a good alarm lock and garage would make much difference.
My mate bike got his bike loaded into the back of a van while he was in a shop!! ....and no one noticed either
...Mind you you don't have to move out far to see it get cheaper.

Ebike quoted me silly money for a Tuono, £1200 more than another company!
one of the reasons the SV650 attracted me in the first place was that it is cheap to insure.
Although some of those quotes are a bit OTT, £5K for an SV1000 is a bit much bike would be worth about that anyways.

Funny that... eBike was the cheapest by a country mile for my KTM :!: Maybe its coz I'm out in the sticks :D
You can keep that 'London :!:' I'm 'appy oooop Norfffff fanks
Getting insured on my CBR was an adventure by itself as I live in London and don't have a garage. Basically it boils done to the fact that few underwriters will take on bikes parked on the road that are valued at over £3000.
EBike were one of the most expensive for me. Riders Choice were the cheapest, and the underwriters are the same underwriters who are dealing with my current claim so I know they are pretty trustworthy.
