View Full Version : Fell though roof and knocked over bike
Some little chav **** was running along the garage roof at the back of Jax Mums house today and fell though the roof! Knocked over my other SV (on its Abba stand) and then buggered off, the police have taken an age to get there (2hrs nearly, even though Jax Mum and Dad are both disabled and retired). And then won't get a SOCO to have a look as there is a risk the roof was asbestos. Even though there is a huge footprint and probably loads of finger prints on the bike as he got up off it. I've had to leave the bike half tipped over till tomorrow to see if we can confirm if its asbestos and see if the SOCO will come out then.
Got a good id from a neighbour though, lets just hope I don't find him first.

Speechless...

If he knocked it off an Abba stand he must have hit it like a bomb...
Well I hope he totally squished his nuts on the tank then.
I can't believe the SCO, what's wrong with a dust mask for all the time they'll be. What do they think loft insulators use?
shame he didnt land on your screwdriver that had been angled upwards to get the oil that was applied to the tip conveniently to run down and lubricate the mechanical tool.

You could hope it is Asbestos - and the scrote may suffer a slow, agonising and debilitating illness!
Don't forget the insurance claim for the roof may need to cover the asbestos removal too, and do Jax's mum a favour!
Sorry to hear about the bike!

Nasty. I would say I hope the police catch the little scrote, but I know they'll do nothing to him if they do. Hope you find him first ;)

Yet another reason to install sharpened bamboo spikes in your garage. Preferably on a sturdy platform covering the bike.

Yes, whilst you're not (for some bizarre reason) allowed to put razorwire on top of your external walls, etc. I don't recall seeing anything about not being allowed to "sew" a mesh of it into the inside of your roof...

My Garage at my mums has a brezzeze block shed built inside it with a solid wood roof, covered in felting tar and broken bottles  2 people had put there foot through it previous and i got sick of it.
We think that they had been bet by their mates to see if they could run the line of sheds and garages that were across the perimeter of the houses. There's no alleyway between, so they were running along the sheds and into peoples gardens. I just hope he hangs around the area tonight and says something, then I can catch him out. White tracksuit, white baseball cap, about 15-18yrs old. Highbury area in Cosham.

Worried about the same thing happening with mine. Just had the garage replaced and kids will use it to help them get over the gate into the park.
Does anyone know the rules on spikes and anti climbing paint use. I know I cant glue broken glass to the roof

If they injure themsleves they can make a claim against you. Spikes or barbed wire is a definite no, no. Yet companies are allowed to do it. Strange.

No doubt if they ruin their shell suits on the anti climb paint I'll get sued. The little darlings round my area seem to have taken up asbo collecting and our invisible police force are ineffectual as ever. Last night they decided to kick my neigbours fence down again
Well I'm going to be moving the bike to our house soon to start work on it. Just miffed there is a dend in the tank now.

Asbestos removal is now very expensive. Expect men in white paper suits, full face masks, gloves and boots. It's like the police crime forensics crew
My dad and I managed to get rid of a heap of asbestos sheets before the new environmental rules came into force :D :D . Just hire a JCB, and dig a massive hole. Way cheaper...
Deterents - thanks to HSE nanny state rules, then you can't install barbed wire, trip mines, or pointed up nails anymore  But you can install covert CCTV, and spy on the little b*stards..... also plant sneakily placed sharp rose bushes behind the fence should they decide to climb the fence  you hear the howls of pain everytime, plus it's 100% legal and effective..
My garage warning system is a blank filled shotgun cartridge linked to a trip wire firing pin. Should they get through the breeze blocks and mean mother of door deadlock bolt first....
If any little scrotum tries to get in my shed, they'll be deaf for a week
I'll probably get sued for personal hearing injuries though... they shouldn't be near or in my garage anyway..... lock 'em up in Guantanamo Bay for a couple of months to teach them a lesson..

Not true. You have to have reasonable evidence that criminal activity is being commited on your premises - Data Protection Act!

Goot rid of my old asbestos garage a couple of weeks ago. All I had to do was wrap the sheets in plastic (cheapo dust sheets) and take it to the council dump that had an asbestos bin free of charge.

tis true, we did this, but you can't exceed your personal yearly allowance, friend of mine demolished an old (double) garage roof and they told him he had too much, but said as long as you personally can carry it to the skip, they don't want to touch it, so he paid two burly labourers off site so that they could carry more
silly rules

Yup that right... Found that out today too...
Cant believe this Grinch  I hope everything gets sorted and they catch the little scrote
This is really crap, and 2 hours for the police to get out thats even worse, this country seems to be going to pot.
Just think in America you would be allowd to fire at the offending intruder with a big old gun if he was on your property, America is not perfect by any means but hell thats gotta be a good thing, defending ones property.
What is wrong with this world :(

Why does that make a difference? They send police in a hurry when there's still someone there to catch. In this case, if they'd arrived after 5 minutes or 5 days it makes no odds... And chances are, the only things they could do the kid for is tresspassing- you can't call it breaking or entering or criminal damage if someone accidentally falls through a roof, even if they had no place being there in the first place.

The fact was there were two disabled pensioners there and they had just had someone enter their home be it by accident or on purpose. They would of been scared out of their wits and very worried that this person or persons may return. We live in a world where terrible acts happen to people every day, we just have to look in the newspaper and see the vile acts that were carried out the day before.
Alright Grinch was there and luckily I may add and that may of affected the police response but imagine your mother or father on the phone saying someone has entered there home and you casually say wait a couple of hours the police will be there and then put the phone down. Im sorry but you just wouldnt do that and not everyone has the luxury of living near their parents, you would be on the phone to the police station demanding action asap.

No, sorry, but you make it sound like the guy was in their front room terrorising them. Maybe the person returns, but why? They're no more likely to than some other place. If someone had broken in and stolen some stuff, that would be very different, since until the place is secured there's a fair chance they come back.
And as for my mum and dad, you're absolutely full of it. Do you know me? If someone fell into my mum and dad's garage and then scarpered while I was away, I'd speak to them and make sure they were OK, and if they needed a locksmith or a chippie and couldn't get that sorted I'd arrange it for them... I wouldn't expect the police to turn up and hold their hands while somewhere else, something more serious might be happening. That's called bolting the door after the horse's bolted. I do think the pace of things afterwards is pretty poor though...
I'm not making light of the situation, it must have been a terrible shock for them all, and the damage isn't what anyone needs. And I'm not sticking up for the kid either- little p***k had no place being there. But there wasn't a mad axeman beating down their door either.
When my car was smashed up outside my flat the police came out straightaway and promised SOCO would come out that day – still waiting 18 months on. Also when my flat windows have been smashed in I was waiting 36 hours for them to come out last time and the council well I’m still waiting for them to board the window up. I lived on my own in a ground floor flat and the first time it happened it was 3am in the morning I was scared witless and didn’t sleep til they came out. What riles me is when they say they will send someone out straight away and they don’t turn up until days later that’s what annoys me
Hmm seems this got a bit out of hand, I merely meant your parents as an example, I could of quite easily used mine or anyones, it was a generic example and did not imply anything against you or your family. Neither have I claimed to know you and dont see how my point of view is seen as full of it.
Im merely pointing out that the response time to some crimes by the police is appalling. Indeed in most cases they cannot do alot as the criminal has already gone as you said but the disabled, elderly, single young woman in a high risk area like Tara basically those in the more in risk category should be treated more urgently.
Anyway this is all circumstantial and the system is never likely to change

Your opinion's not full of it, sorry I got a little hot under the collar there... It was that one bit that I sort of took exception to. I think Tara's case is a little different, there's a real difference between a deliberate criminal act and what I suppose you could call an accidental one. Likewise, a difference between a broken window, which is an obvious entry point, and a hole in a garage roof which isn't. Still, in an ideal world there'd be enough police that they could have a card at your door every time in minutes- but then, an awful lot of people would be up in arms about the price ;)
