Since selling my lovely car... and down grading to something not so posh, it has redirected my attention to my bike :D

Well i have a new jacket and decided that i really should get of my **** and get out there riding,

So today (despite the massive windchill) i ventured to work,

Dont you just love it when u leave 5 minutes late for work, but arrive ten minutes earlier than normal if you had gone in the car??

I Do! :D

I had to go to London the other day for a meeting at 10:30, i decided to take the bike instead of the car due to the road works now going on between junction 10 to 06, left Luton at 8:30 got to Newham in London around 9:30. it was brilliant filtering through all the traffic, if i had made the same journey in the car and left Luton at the same time i think i would still be on the M1!!!!!!

You gotta love bikes :D

Sorry guys, I don't know what your talking about, I lack a frame of reference, as I only use a car a handful of times a year, it's a total novelty, and as to the timing, well I'd have no faith if I was in a car, just getting there is enough.

you need to be somewhere, on time, take a bike

Cheers Mark.

ditto, haven't driven a car on the road for about a year now, and only when it's snowing and icy do i miss it, every other time i'm p!ssing myself laughing at the muppets sat in traffic

i have to be honest and say that only due to personal circumstances have i been reluctant to use the bike, i hadnt ridden for a while and i felt the worse thing i could do would be to get on in the middle of winter,

But im so pleased i now want to ride again, heres to a better and quicker ride to work! :D

It's like summer out there man what are you on about! :D

Don't have a car or a lincence to drive a car so have never had the luxury of one. BUT......I am not doing another winter on teh bike, mainly due to the owrry of watching my beloved new SV turning into a pile of salt corroded metal. Although the prospect of sitting in traffic does not appeal.

Apparently it can take 90 minutes to get to work in a car (so I am told), or 42 minutes on a bike in heavy traffic - 28 on a good day

This is what puts me off. I live in Farnborough and travel to Uxbridge which is about a 45 minute journey on the bike maybe an hour on a really bad day. Some guy lives near me and it takes him anything up to 2 and a half hours even in his nippy Z4. Yuk.

You guys have inspired me, I am working about 20 mins from the house to day so I've taken the car home and taken the bike out of the garage.

Think i will use the bike every day from now on :D

My journey to work is only 10 miles, so by the time I have got my bike gear on, got the bike out of the garage, locked up, parked at work and got changed again it is not a lot quicker than going by car.

I do however always arrive with a smile on my face when I come in on the bike :D

I am in a similar predicament - so I bought some Hood Jeans (www.hoodjeans.co.uk) and feel almost as safe as normal leathers, plus I dont have to change (apart from shoes) when I get to work - works for me! :D

So how will kevlar jeans help - I wear a suit at work so I would still have to change - fool

I wear waterproof armoured trousers over my suit trousers in the winter, with an armoured waterproof jacket. I wear full leathers now that the weather is drier. Even though it is only 10 miles I prefer not to compromise my safety by wearing kevlar jeans.

Had to take the bike this morning, couldn't be bothered to scrape the screen on the car.

I leave 10 minutes later than my counterpart who also travels the same route. I arrive 20-40 minutes earlier depending on traffic. Once was an hour earlier.

Looks like I'm the odd one out then. Car 35 mins. Bike 45 mins

But the route on the bike is soooo much more fun :D (except this morning which was all about avoiding loads of ice patches :( )

I just can't bring myself to do motorways on the bike when there are all those nice roads out there.

I wear a suit at work - leave the jacket at work, every thing else stays on under the waterproof goretex. You can now get a good choice of suits in fabrics that resist creases, the guys I meet don't seem to mind the Italian styled Goretex clothes I wear!

I've used the bike all this week so far and I have to say I'm a lot happier for it. Just carve through the traffic at the Tyne Tunnel. I would be early but I've been taking detours to pad out my jurney 8)

As for the cold I never notice it now. I have some nice warm textile gear (curtsy of Lidl), heated grips that allow me to wear summer gloves all the time and a scarf thingy. Might as well be the middle of summer today. In fact I would probably complain its too hot. Just give me above freezing and sunshine and I'm as happy as Larry.

Leave 5 mins late, arrive 10 early.

I have a problem with this, seeing as my journey is only 14miles and 12minutes long (using my secret motorway  )

If i left 5mins late (06:35), and got in 10 mins early (06:32), well you can see the problem! Time travel!

 i wear trousers and a shirt to work, so i wear waterproof trousers over my normal ones and a winter jacket. but its only ten miles, must be boring in a car

i thought your bike seemed quick

well have you done the same journey in a cage? maybe its a common principle ...
