View Full Version : Motorcyclist in need of assistance.
Hi,
I am a new rider :-) last time I got on a bike was twenty years ago, however I was trying to remember the signal for motorcyclist needs assistance.
Am I correct in thinking this is placing the lid on the seat?
Many Thanks.
Martin.
 *Shouts out...RICTUS...SQUID!!*
I just phone the AA! Welcome to the site by the way :D
didnt realise there was one.... :? just stand at the side of the road and look helpless hehe
Lid behind the bike isn't it?

I thought it was to place the lid on the floor behind the rear wheel
. . . and then stand around looking unhappy until someone stops :D

Correct to both, although I would point out, those days are somewhat behind us now, the motorcycling world is a very different place, as viney pointed out "call the AA" or some such is the norm, and not a lot of riders know thw ways of old :?
I think you perhaps stand as good a chance of getting someone to stop to give a hand, it's just they probably won't be able to do anything except phone up for you or give you a lift, once upon a time just about any biker could fix most stuff that wasn't terminal.
(god , does that make me feel old, or what  )
Cheers Mark.
I agree with Mark.
If I see someone who looks in trouble I will stop - dont care about helmet placement etc....
Not much I can usually do though........

Take helmet off, take leathers off, take underwear off and place over head. Run up and down flapping arms and making deranged ferret noises.
I think that would indicate quite successfully that a biker would be in need of some help. :D
I'll get my coat.
Seriously though I did not know there was an offical sign for it. I just stop if and when I can if bike has stopped etc.

Lid on ground behind the bike. Next you lot will be telling me you don't park it in gear...
I usually just try to make eye contact. If I see someone stopped I usually give them the thumbs up as I go past.
normally looking at it with a  face gives it away .. oh yeh that and the verbal abuse being shouted at the thing at the time

Very much in need of help, but not the mechanical kind
What does a deranged ferret sound like anyway ?
I knew about the Lid on floor behind bike - now I feel old.
Thanks to everybody for all the great replys :D I am now off to practice my ferret noises.

I just make mine look as broken down as possible ;) Tank up, that's pretty effective.

Well depends what kind of ferret really. The general garden variety ferret is easy enough to immitate and to the the untrained ear you could even convince passers by that you are, in fact, a large ferret in distress. That rides a bike.
Man I have too much time on my hands!

Put your lid on your bike so it looks like your still on it (hazzards on!).
..Hide in bushes, then when some nice biker gets off their mount to help, jump on theirs and ride off, problem solved.
Hey, who nicked me coat?
had a thought... when my zorst collapsed on my way home I sat down next to the bike looking dejected, saw 7 bikes go past in the space of 10 minutes and none stopped...
then a woman came past and slammed on her brakes, puffs of smoke coming off the tyres, jumped out, ran over and came to see if she could help.
Think she'd thought I'd come off, but in any case wow, it was an amazing way of stopping to help!

And imagine her response at this point had you done the naked ferret dance routine. :)
Well I think actually she would have sped up and carried on past me if I'd been doing the naked ferret dance...!
