View Full Version : Hepburn tops "Most Beautiful Woman" poll
Hollywood legend Audrey Hepburn has topped a list of the 100 most beautiful women of all time.
The Breakfast at Tiffany's star was chosen just ahead of fellow screen icon Grace Kelly. The survey of 5,000 women was carried out by New Woman magazine.
And it revealed that old-style glamour still has the edge over modern-day celebrities. Sixties sex bomb Sophia Loren and movie legend Marilyn Monroe were also in the top five, alongside supermodel Cindy Crawford.
"When it comes to the most beautiful women of all time, head-turning, full-on glamour wins the day," said New Woman editor Helen Johnston.
"The women who top this list all possess classic, timeless beauty and they know how to show it off to the best effect. Women are now returning to the high maintenance, polished look because it makes them feel fabulous and they know men love it too."
Hepburn, who died in 1993, was the muse of designer Givenchy. Her films include Roman Holiday (1953), Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) and My Fair Lady (1964).
Both Victoria Beckham and Coleen McLoughlin have cited Hepburn as their style icon. But they are no match for her beauty in the eyes of the public - Beckham managed just 49th in the list while McLoughlin was 92nd.
Modern-day Hollywood stars in the top 10 were Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta Jones, Halle Berry and Scarlett Johansson. The late Diana, Princess of Wales was in eighth place.
Supermodel Kate Moss just missed out on the top 10. Sienna Miller was 26th and Keira Knightley 35th.
Old-school Hollywood icons Rita Hayworth, Ingrid Bergman, Katharine Hepburn and Lauren Bacall were voted ahead of Cat Deeley, Teri Hatcher and Kelly Brook.
in my humble there aren't many women around these day (in the public eye) that are a match for ms Hepburn and other stars of the 50's and 60's
You're right, though I think it's because today, they work for the camera - a true beauty makes the cameras work for them.

Too many of these Girls make it in on their fame status rather than 'proper' looks, I wouldn't touch Mrs Becks or Cols unless I was mashed.
(49 & 92 really !? )
Where is Pat Butcher then, No 10?

How did Sophia Loren only get in at 81 ???
And what about:
Englands own Jane Seymour

And the wonderful Lauren Becall

Bah, waste of time....
Hmmm, Jane Seymour :D
Exactly what I was thinking - how much would I like to have been Owen Wilson in The Wedding Crashers...
Catherine Deneuve and Sophia Loren for me (but not at the same time - I wouldn't wish to crowd my pleasures  ).
.
who would you like to see in the list jonboy?
Sophia Loren does it for me, amazing for her age.
Marilyn Monroe also.
Today it would have to be Selma Heyak (sp)
What I find puzzling is Colleen whatserface stating Hepburn was a style icon for her.
I dont recall Hepburn hanging out in tracksuit chavette style clothes :?
But its interesting that most of the women listed arent in the stick insect category despite the prevalence of annorexic looking models of late. Out of interest in regard to pics today in the metro of Nicole Richie, do blokes really find that ethiopian famine look attractive? :? :? :(

Just spent the last 10 mins tracking down a copy of said organ.
In answer to your question - No, which is a shame really as she's very pretty, however she would be a million times more atractive (to me anyway) if she had a bit more meat on her bones.
Who wants to cuddle up to a sack of spanners ?
personally speaking i do not find the twig thin look appealing in the slightest. i dont mind slim, but there's slim and too damned skinny. like you say lyn, the stick thin bony annorexic look is horrible.

Not me, voluptuous curves can be very attractive, and the body as art, of course, is in the eye of the holder  .
.
Kate Beckinsale playing Ava Gardiner in the aviator works for me.
I'm no fan of the stick insect look - unless it's that mad pepperami advert !
and before I foget - Nicole in the pussycat dolls looks fantastic.
Curves everyday for me - cant be doing with skin and bone and a total lack of decent facilities.... 8-[

I go with the consensus here! Catwalk waifs are totally unattractive to my eyes. Slim is ok, but there are many more "full shaped" girls out there that are very attractive indeed.

Link to said list??? Guess not.
I think Natalie Portman would and should rank in the top 25 if not the top 10, I'd check but there's not link to the list.

I didnt spot that. Wonder if its based on the fact people associate Cleopatra with Liz Taylor. :?
But I guess its based on reputation - thousands of years later the story of Caesar, Anthony and her is still well known. Historical sources are not complimentary of her looks - but she still managed to seduce two of the most powerful men of her age and fundamentally alter the course of history. Not many women have had that effect. :P

I think that a lot of these lists are not very imaginative.
There is a woman, Liya Kebede, who is pretty hot in fairness.

Also, Lhakpa Tsamchoe is beautiful.
http://www.bestofneworleans.com/dispatch/2001-08-14/film_review-1.jpg
And, there is this English girl, Lyndsey Marshal, who is very cute, but I cant get a decent image of her.

This is another pic of Liya Kebede... I mean... Princess Di is better looking than this chick? Emmm. No. No she's not.

Problem is, people tend to remember the faces they have seen more recently. I was discussing this with my boy, and was showing him pictures of the women from the 40's, 50's and 60's. He commented that how good they looked, and that they seemed more "pure", nothing artificial, either physically or in they way they worked with the camera.
I still can't understand no Lauren Becall..... (shakes head).

And this is it. Jelster is right.
It has nothing to do with being Beautiful per se.
The question that they really ask is can you name anyone who you think is :
vaguely decent looking,
who you see all the time,
and is famous,
and everyone will agree with,
and is white. (Yeah grand, we have Lucy Liu, Naomi Cambell. Halle Berry is really a white chick who is a bit over commited to the tanning salon.)
Boring boring bastads.
Princess Di in at number 8? I see better looking women on the journey from my bike to the lab. Dont even attempt to try that on.

Have to disagree with you on that one... In her later years she was a stunning example of (and I know it's very cliche') a true English rose...
She really was a beautiful woman, but maybe not so when she first married Charlie, she grew beautiful - I just grow fatter
