Its things like cleaning chewing gum of streets, painting walls and fences, sweeping up, working in OAPs shops etc. Basically unpaid work which benefits the community.

In some countys they have to wear bright orange boiler suits with "COMMUNITY SERVICE" written on the back to increase the humiliation of it all.

You have to do a set number of hours (normally no more than 350) to be completed in the duration of the sentance, in this case, 18 months. Dependant on what the person gets given, they do it during the week or on weekends, rarely on both.

Failure to attend your service, gets you hauled straight back in front of a judge and you get re-sentanced - normally meaning a custodial.

So, are you going to see if you can down £50's worth of champagne to toast his health - or rather it's hopeful deteriation after sticking himself on some disease infested needle whilst cleaning up a park!

I'm glad you got some form of resolution from the whole thing - though like others I'd have liked to see him get a custodial sentence.

Good luck with the new job - bit of a fresh start all round.
