View Full Version : New 2006 SV "exhale" sound?
Hi all, I just purchased a 2006 SV650S and had a quick question. After the bike is turned off, if I wait about 5-10 minutes, an exhale-like sound comes from the middle of the bike. It sounds like an air pressure release of some sort. The strange thing is, it'll do it 2-3 more times, every 5-10 minutes. I was wondering if this is common, or if I need to have it checked out.
Thanks in advance,
Doc

Hello & welcome to the board.
I have a 2005 SV & as far as I know there is no mechanical difference between the K5 & the K6 bikes.
I have never heard of this before & my bike has never done it (not in my presence anyway!).
I suppose in theory if the bike was left in neutral then the pistons could come to a resting point which would cause them to move thus causing the exhaling of air noise through the exhaust valves.
Or maybe I am just talking a lot of absolute kerrap & someone with a hell of a lot more knowledge that me will be along shortly. :)
:)
i get clicking noises from my cbr, as this is normally the exhaust and engine cooling down.

Keep an eye on your coolant levels there could be a bit of air in there. I used to have an LC that made simillar noises it ewas just the coolant moving around as it cooled.

now this is a funny one, whether its your descriptive term or not the only thing that comes to mind as "exhale-like sound" could be pressure differential in the tank ?
You know the one where you open the tank and get the sucking noise, you may have a problem with the fuel cap?
You can check this by releasing the cap and listen for it equalizing.
Cheers Mark.
:) I've got a K5,Never heard mine do anything like that!!!
I agree with John Burt, keep an eye on the coolant level, might just be it making a "gurgle" noise as it cools,OR it may be a coolant leak, dripping onto a hot surface, and evapourating.(like pouring water into hot pan/fire).
Do you get any smells with it? Coolant tends to give off a sweet-metally smell,I don't advise this but if you inhale the vapour,it tastes sweet.
Also check for fuel smells,as this can/would make the same sound!
I've heard that Suzuki had some problems with fuel tanks splitting on the SV,worth a good check over I think. :?

Could be a drop of liquid, coolant maybe, dripping onto the exhaust?
Thanks for all the replies guys :D
I'm out of town on business right now, so I can't take a look to see if there is anything leaking and then being evaporated, but if I remember correctly, it sounded less like that, and more like an air escape leak. I will return in two days and will post then.
Again, thanks for the inputs.

Doc, its brand new mate, get it back to the dealers :!:
Ok, I'm back in town, and took the bike out last night. After I shut it down, I sat by it for 30-35 minutes waiting for this 'exhale' sound to occur, but it never did. Now I'm thinking it may just have been a brand new bike thing, whatever it was. So unless this happens again, I think we're ok.
Also, I got my flashlight and check every nook and cranny possible, but didn't see any sign of something leaking and vaporizing on the engine.
Thanks again for the responses.
