Not motorcycle related at all, but the wife & I went to the "London Wetlands Centre" today, so I had a chance to take a few pics with my DSLR....

Jelster, I should have realised your a photography bod. You took the shots of us on the way in to the pub on the run yesterday. Nice one! I'm just off to the darkroom to print some B&W I took on Friday. Don't think the birds are as good as yours though :)

Shoot rabbits mostly. I'm yet to bag my first fox, but that's all in good time. Haven't been shooting long. Go clay pigeon shooting the odd time too, but I'm not very good at it :( I think it's cause they aren't living. Just isn't the same shooting something that aint living

Also like to shoot targets and the odd bird with the air rifle. I'm a pretty good shot with it, if I may say so myself.

To eat or for "sport" ?

Sport  Not really interested in eating my kill, but I'm more than happy for someone else to. Better than just throwing it away.

Sorry mate - but I just can't understand the desire to kill something just because you can.

To kill for food is one thing, but for the sake of it . . . ? ? ? ? ?

I got an EOS350D, it made sense as I still have my original EOS620 (which is really getting on now) so the lenses fit. Need to get something a bit better in the way of a lens for this birdwatching stuff though...

they shoot people for no reason in wars, so the odd bird isn't going to change a lot...

The difference being in a war your target can shoot back !!

Now if game birds, rabbits, etc were issued with similar weapons to those that are hunting them I would pay good money to WATCH the hunt !!

I saw a couple of bus spotters stood on a roundabout with their cameras outside Sunderland Bus Station the other day. Now that really is a sad hobby

Personally, I'd love a crack at some wildlife, to annoy the vegetarians :P Only joking of course, but I do think I'd enjoy shooting vermin. Nowt bigger than a rabbit or pheasant or something.

Since when has pheasant been vermin :?

Gotta be some reason.... erm, like to peck at people? Dunno really, guess I could argue that it only serves as a size referance?

Ever since the the B wakes me up every morning I call him vermin... Damn bl*ddy bird... Once he calm's down and gets his end away I'll get some sleep but only untill the young owls leave the nest and I'll not get any sleep through out the night... they just don't STFU!!!

Squirrels too!!! The little tree rats should all be shot (bar the Red squirrels) those grays are illegal immigrants shouldn't be in this country...

having said all that I couldn't bring my self to shoot any of the birds but may be the squirrels...

Looking cool Steve

if your looking for good glass, do not think you have to go for L series. look at the sigma ex stuff (especially the 70 to 200mm f2.8 hsm ) also tokina and some of the tamron range.

excellent quality and 1/3 of the price of canon stuff.

you would have to break my arms to get me to part with my sigma 70 to 200 zoom. (thanks alansv ) .

and before any l series snobs turn up YES i have used l series glass.

I'm eagerly awaiting collection of my 350D. I also like shooting snaps of birds  and plumped for a 70-300 IS USM. Although it's not as fast as the Sigma 100-300 I was ocnsidering it's considerably cheaper and the IS should allow slower shutter speeds, compensating for the slower glass.

I'll let you know what I think when it turns up.

I debated long and hard about what to get and luckily could borrow a 350D and a D70 for the weekend to compare them. I thought the 350D was more user friendly and the image quality was better. The D70 had softer images. Both were with their kit lenses.

Should have it by the end of the week, it's like waiting for Xmas!

I used an old Cannon 70-210 that I got with my original EOS620 which I'm begining to think that was about 20 years ago now, and I still have it and it works fine. It also came with the 50mm F1.4 as well

Am now considering something around 400mm now, get some pictures at distance....

here's my sigma 70 -200 ex hsm f2.8 with a 2x converter on it taking me to 400mm x 1.6 for the crop factor so a 640mm

you need a lot of light for decent shots but here are 1 or 2 from a dull day today around ribblehead and devils bridge

on above lens

1 more then the next lens

I could not get close enough to use the 200mm end of the lens (my kids were with me scaring everything in sight )

I just had delivered a Nikon D50 with the Nikon 18-70 lens and a Sigma APO 70-300 zooooooom.

Need got get out snapping now.

I was thinking of getting the EOS350 or the D70 but I think the D50 is more user friendly but uses the same optics and sensor as the D70. I am trying to convince my GF that 900 quid all in with a bag, filters and 1 gig card is a good deal and the washing machine will last a few more months anyway.
