ok so its nothing to do with sv's but my dad brought a yamaha cygnus x 125 brand new when the 06 plate came out from CMC motorcycles in cannock, the trouble is the speedo is correct ive follow'ed him up to 65mph and its **** on but when i went a ride out with him his milage counter is reading + 50% we did a 40 mile ride the other day and his counter had clocked up 60 miles?
first i thought kph but thats not + 50% is it? and the speedo is correct :?
CMC is a big company and doesnt sell imports,
any idea's :?

It could still be measuring the distance in km; that sounds within the margin of error.
Is it possible that they've changed the label on the speedo dial but not done anything to sort the odo?

would that mean its an import?

possibly, or maybe its like the k3 + sv's that can be switched over, maybe the odo needs switching to mph?
iirc 40mph = 60 kmh so a fourty mile ride = 60k ride i think

iirc 40mph = 60 kmh so a fourty mile ride = 60k ride i think
1 mile = 1.6 km so 40 miles = 64 km, well within the margin of error I would expect.

Surely if it's switchable and the Speedo is reading in miles then the Odo should automatically be doing the same :? .
kwak zzr , is the speedo mechanical driven or electronic . Either way you can check to see if there is a converter attached to either the cable or wires.

21quest its mechanical, just a cable and normal odo meter(not digital).
but am i right in saying if its an imported model he should have been told about this?

Oh ..... 1km=0.625miles
So 60 km = 37.5. miles
Therefore if his Odo is reading 60? and he only did 40 miles then it is safe something is not quite right. Innit

The converter would be attached either at the end of the cable that goes into the clocks or the cable end going to the front wheel.
Where one have you just checked?

This may actually just be common to scooters. My old scooter had the odo in kilometres, though the speedo was in mph (not an import). My girlfriend had an import and both the speedo and odo were in kilometres.
Maybe someone can correct me here as it makes no sense, but I was under the impression that all scooters odo were km's.

ok so i phoned cmc today and they tell me that they are all like it because they are made for the euro market, as long as the speedo is in mph its ok.

Speedo in MPH is OK, but what about ODO?
It'll rack up more figures (KMH) than normal and be valued less in the long term, no? People will think it's miles not KMH therefore reducing resale value..
Amongst other issues like sevice intervals... :?

they tell me thats how it is? digital mile counters can be swapped to mph but the normal old counters cant be swapped so they stay in kph?
they tell me that the newer bikes with no on/off light switches is euro rules also. :?
my old gilera was like that.
on the clock it had both mph and kph.. (as most cars do for instance)
but the odo was in km... and yep, they soon rack up.
k
My old Gilera Runner read in kilometers and not miles. I rang up the dealer to complain as i thought i'd got a euro spec bike.
As it happens, all of those models showed KM not miles. Didn't bother to transfer, needed a fair bit to change it all i think.
PS, just read James reply, DOh, same answer
