Definately mad to do the distance every day.
Id see about finding a relatively cheap pad near your place of work, stay there during week and come home on weekends. It doesnt need to be something flash -just a bedsit or something.
A consultant i know lives in York and commutes daily by the train to Kings Cross. But his makes sense. where he lived before it took 2 hours to battle into Kings Cross on Tubes etc... where as now he jumps on an early train in York, 2 hours later hes there.
Does it first class.. the savings he makes are great compared to what it cost him before.. not just financially but stress wise too. 8)

 Whoa...
You guys are hardcore..
I live just short of 30 miles from where I work, but my round trip is 90 miles. I do 30 miles there, 60 miles back (through twisties on the way home of course  )
Doing about 35miles to work at the moment though through london traffic that makes it a bit longer

My commute is now a 15 minute walk along the river side to the CBD area of town. One side of the river is mainly retail, the other side is the largest area of office blocks in York. Something like 30-40,000 office workers in 1/2 square mile. Its crazy in the pubs after work on a friday!
Yup.. its actually a nice stress free walk into the office... :P

I live in Preston, my office is Rugby. A distance of about 145 miles.
9 months of commuting nearly killed me. leaving home at 5 am, fighting the M6 through Birminham, get into Rugby for about 7:30 breakfast and then settle down for a days work, leave at about 6 and home for about 8:30pm
I did it as it seemed to be an improvement to travelling to Paris a couple of times a week.
So now I go into the office as and when I need to, my health ain't worth it. My bosses used to say why don't I stay over. I had to disappoint them and tell them I have a life and family.
I refuse to do the journey on a Friday anymore, it is madness and thank god for the M6 toll

Rotherhithe to Clerkenwell
hey where are you in Rotherhite ....im off salter road ?????
10 mins by car, 1 hour walk. And soon I'll be even less if I get a job in town.
I used to do Northampton to Warwick, then later it was Warwick to Evesham (got relocated just after I moved to Warwick  ).
Wouldn't consider anything further than 20 min drive now. Life's for living, not commuting.
And of course in the summer, come to work on the bike, then go home via the Malvern Hills.....Bliss.
90 mile round trip
anything from 45 mins to hour and a half

10 miles round trip if I stretch it on the way back... 7 miles if I take the shortest path.

Hi Folks,
erm....
Yep that'll be me then.....
Until recently (And I have witenesses). I was doing 210 round trip a day on the SV
And that's Newport (South Wales) to High Wycombe. I killed Bthe Blue Cow's first engine at 25k from new (K4).
Now on engine number 2 courtesy of Mike Mini Twin.
I haven't been on her much recently, as I have changed jobs, and therefore, location, but still a bit of a rant to work. it's now about 140 mile round trip.
And just to add.. I won't be using her for a bit now anyway...as I'm booked in for the "SNIP" tomorrow evening.. :(

Wellingborough to Central London (UCLH Hospital) is my daily grind, now the weather is getting better I will likely have the wife on the back too so I will be making a detour to Harlsden to drop the wife at work.

back in the 80's we used to have a radar controller who lived in New York. he'd fly over for his shift cycle, fly back home for his rest period. Only a 5 or 6 hour commute since he didn't have to faff around with check in and the like. No idea how long it went on for.

i'm so glad I'm only 14 miles to work, takes 45 minutes on thebus mind you, but thats good sleeping time for me... I feel lucky now... I could have been even better I looked into a flat that was directly across the road from my work so it would have taken me longer to get to my desk once I was in the building than it would to actually get to the front door of my work... But I couldn't face opening my curtains everyday and seeing my work....

Well my home is in York and my office is in Normanton.around 50 miles round trip. Our Head Office is in Burgess Hill... so that's 550 miles plus although I only go there about once a month
Toady I went to Northampton and back.....318 miles
Tomorrow I'm going to Mildenhall in Suffolk say 186 miles....back on Thursday.
Friday looks like Liverpool and back...198 miles.
I regularily do Colchester and Harwich as an overnight stay. say around 550 miles for the round trip (I usually stop over in Mildenhall on the way down).
Oh and we are opening a unit in Glasgow so I go up there a lot as well....although that's been by train up to now as I have to arrive suited and booted for meetings....still that'll change soon enough! ( 400 miles or so I reckon!)
I have a company car but I won't use unless I have to...much prefer the SV or my old Zephyr 550 if the roads are salty!
Not sure if it's strictly "commuting" but it keeps me happy!
Cheers!

10 miles each way through the Derbyshire countryside. Past Kedleston Hall and over Cumberhills seeing the lovely Ecclesbourne valley shrouded in mist.
15 mins on the bike or car, 45 mins on the pushbike once it's warm enough.
Somehow not envious of most of the commutes here
122 miles a day, and tbh after two winters Im fed up of it.
About to replace the engine having just clocked over 50,000 miles [bought it on 14,000]. Engine runs, just the gear selector fork for top gear appears bent/broken.
Will find out tomorrow, hopefully, on an oil change that its just bent as its in Scotland atm.
Good thing about the new job is its 5 mins walk from Charing X. Trains go direct in hour ten so it will be commute to station then train/walk in. No way the bike will be quicker/easier as it is at my present place of work.

Gillingham to Kings Cross, just under 80 miles a day.
I go buy car into central London which should be a nightmare but as I work odd hours I can do it an hour each way and am exempt from the CON charge so its not to bad.

portsmouth to battersea.
and i work shifts, so by my fourth night im knackered!
I'm sure that mine is the longest by far!! :smt043
I look at my work from my house - it's about a 2 min walk!!
Do I win for the shortest?? (excluding those who work from home)
I do sometimes come in on the bike, when it's nice and I want to go for a blast after work.

Currently on 15 minutes if all the lights are green, 20 minutes if the lights are red.
Down from 1120 round trip from Glasgow to Penzance - down on a Sunday night in 7 hours, back on a Friday evening in 10 hours. Why didn't I just move?
Up from zero - pull back duvet, put feet on floor, arrive at work.
Manchester to Nottingham 200miles return once per week.
Go there on Wednesday back on Thursday......rest of the day work from home
