Yay!
I've just been told that I can continue on as a graduate software engineer and general dogsbody for the company I work for. I'll be trained up in all things medical imaging, as well.
Salary isn't enormous but it's enough to get me going and I'll have to move to Swindon, but all in all, I'm very chuffed.
I'd put the card behind the bar, but it's already maxed out, sorry.
Congrats n all that. Now get back to work!

I've worked for this company for two years now, so I must have made a vaguely good impression.
My boss does warn clients what to expect when I make site visits, though. My favourite phrase is "He looks like he just stepped out of a tent at Glastonbury"
Trust me, the images are not very flattering and are usually of old people.

Welcome to the land of the waged and working and say bye bye to the days of chilling at home

My favourite phrase is "He looks like he just stepped out of a tent at Glastonbury, and no, he's not stoned; he's like that all the time".
Well, that's nice.
Well done on the job too!

Pah! I don't know when the last time I got to chill at home was. It certainly wasn't in the last 2 years.

Ok, to celebrate, I'm going to put a piece of metal through an as yet undecided part of my body.
I want the forum to decide where, but not a PA.

Congratulations on the job. Swindon's rubbish, but at least you can use all the bus lanes there on a bike. Watch out for all the roundabouts, they love them. Head north for 15 mins to around cirencester and there are some spectacular biking roads.

I definitely got the impression that Swindon wasn't the place to be, but unfortunately, I have little choice.
The Redhead requires that we live in a town big enough to support at least a couple of clubs and the office being out in the sticks somewhere east of Devizes limits the choice to Salisbury or Swindon and I can't afford to live in Salisbury (or want to put up with the traffic)

I was happy in the haze of a drunken hour
But heaven knows I’m miserable now
I was looking for a job, and then I found a job
And heaven knows I’m miserable now
Ah no. Have as much fun as you can at your job.
Its going to be at least a big part of your life for the forseeable future.

I'm happy to be working for the people I will be. It's a very small (but extremely successful) company so my rises are closely linked to how well we all do. I also work directly with the managing director. We're the only two technical people working on what is now a substantial piece of software.
There's also the very real possibility that one of the mega-corporations we work with (Philips, GE, etc) may make an offer to buy us out in the future, which could mean a massive step up the ladder for me when a position in the new company is sorted out.
All in all, I don't think I could have done much better as my first job out of uni.

Nice. I got a bit lucky too.
Emm, BTW, if there is any chance of buy outs etc, you should be dropping hints all over the shop about having company shares as part of your package. I have seen a number of my mates doing exactly this, and, no messing, flogging them 2 years later and putting a deposit on a house.
Just something to keep in mind mate.

Shares have been talked about but that definitely won't happen for a year or two. Basically, I have to prove myself worth it.

Reasonable.
One thing I would say, is dont make your job your life. Take lunch brakes. Leave no later than 6 unless its an emergancy.
I find, limiting how much I care about my job, actually helps me be better. Strangely enough. And, dont just expect to always be as good as, or better than everyone.
I used to get annoyed with myself for being so stupid when I make mistakes, and forget that the person correcting me has a PhD from Cornel, a post doc in Harvard, and has been in the genetics business for longer than I have been in school.
Take it on the chin, work neat, go about your business quietly.

I'm pretty lucky in this area as well. I already work harder than previous people they've had. I already have more successful site visits under my belt than all of the previous people put together and apparently I'm a much better coder.
All in all, a pretty good situation to be in. I'm a fairly lazy person, but it's nice when the people you have to live up to are even worse.
As for sustainable working hours, it's already been discussed and comes out nicely for all. I can have flexible hours as and when I need them as well as time spent away from home in hotels counts as working hours.

Instead of metal why not put a bone through you nose or one of those amazonian saucers inside your bottom lip? That would give the guvnor something to warn the customers about.
Congrats on the job BTW.

I'll have to move to Swindon
My deepest condolences.
I spent my placement there. It’s the most depressing place in the world. And to make it worse I’m going back when I graduate
So I’ll see you on the Magic Roundabout

Rank amatures.
You've obviously never been to PortLaoise.
PortLaoise... has a big jail. And, is near the Dublin/Limerick/Cork motorway. And thats it. Thats PortLaoise's redeeming features.
Yay!
