Hi all
Have taken the step and ordered a new SV650s in red today from Premier in west wickham.
any thoughts or suggestions on mods for it when i get it?
also, i see many different views on running it in. so what is the current thought? thrash it or follow the proper procedure?
any help would be great!

Yes.
Leave it dead standard, else risk ending up with one of the pieces of chavvy junk you'll see on this site that make up the sorry majority of 'modded' bikes out there.
It'll all end in tears, mark my words.

Mods are down to personal preference really. I'd go for R&Gs and lower fairings, if you like that look. And an aftermarket can is obligatory

not keen on chavving my bike up really. just pondering sensible mods really.
modding your bike is all about making it your own  if you like the look of doing something do it  some people might say my bike is over the top.......... but i ain't bothered one bit ,because it's mine and il love it :D
i would say a can first then go from there
is one thing having it completely standard, but its a bit crap at a meet or pub when there's loads of bikes the same.
its nice to have something different :D

LOL Sounds like you are talking about my bike :?
With regards to modding , Crash bungs(R+G?) is all you need to do.
Cheap end can maybe so your original remains mint incase you drop it :? (touch wood).
For the moment just ride it. Once you start modding , it's easy for it to become a full time job .
( Northy , svrash know all about that :) )

Get a decent can and maybe some smaller indicators. Pretty much all ive done to my bike so far, so it must be good advice :D

Crash bungs, fenda extenda and rear hugger is the must.
Suzuki should fit them as standard, the tight so and so.

Get yourself a big stick. Every time you think about modifying your bike, hit yourself with the big stick. Less painfulin the long run ;)

Crash bungs are a must i reckon its well worth getting rid of the snow shovel on the back and replacing it with an aftermarket number plate holder.
Changing the can is worthwhile when u have the money.
IMO coloured bolts/chains/screens/headlights etc look aweful but then again that just me.
fender extender (maybe) to stop water getting in the front spark plug, this problem dosen't affect all bike though.

Get yourself these really kool neon lights that go under the belly of the bike!!! Some blue LEDs also do the trick. It's well wikid innit!!!
I'll get me coat
IMO any SV has to have an aftermarket can to release that glorious V-Twin sound. Keep it simple and subtle. You can get loads of ideas from various bike pic sites, some good, some bad and some are just terrible :) I personally hate if the bike is all stickered up unless it's a race replica with a decent paintjob.

cheers folks - thanks for the advice
ah cr@p braided brake lines, can, fender eliminator is a must then i would think about new rubber and brake pads job done unless you want suspension front + rear and high compression pistons with cams, filter and have your ecm mapped to round it off
whats wrong with chaving it up i think that there is too many similar bikes on the market now days
its good to see some personality/individuality and creativity put into these bikes and then you can stand up and look at the beauty of it when its lying under a transit van
best advice get some advanced driving lessons and a timmy MALLET for all the idiot drivers/pedestrians out there
 What is wrong with you lot!!!!??? If you modify your bike,it don't mean your a "Chav". What it does mean is that you dare to be different! Anyone can buy a STANDARD bike,Yes,alot of money went into that design etc,but there is nothing wrong with personalising/tuning. You'll be wearing Anoraks next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:x
fenda extender, can, go mad

I've got nothing against neons on bikes or cars as long as it's not on mine. I've never been keen on making my ride look like a christmass tree, but everyone has different tastes hence the choice of various mods out there.
The fact that these styling ideas are assosiated with chav culture is no secret, so what's wrong with having a giggle at their expence?
Yes.

:x Just because a bike is modded,IT DOES NOT mean it is "chavvy junk". Blimey, first people were being critisised for "slagging off" the Bandit, from their own opinions/experiences,now we(as modders,as in modify,) are being "slagged off" for modding our bikes. Not everyone wants to be the same as the next person!
Some people want to be different/subtle/in yer face etc. and that is their perogative! Not for you to slag off modified bikes!! :x
I've said it before,I'll say it again: EACH TO THEIR OWN!

If it were me, and I weren't attacking it as a project as I've done with the current one, I'd put crash bungs on it before I even rode it. Probably a Remus Revolution end can. Bodywork... F Fabbri screen, seat cowl. Maybe a tail tidy, but maybe not, there's a lot to be said for a mudguard that works. Ditch the pillion pegs. Chewy's bolt kit, maybe. And that'd be that. Well, I'd change the pads, but I'd not recommend that for you at this point.
Ah, who am I kidding? :)

Cheapest mod, Don't buy an SV. Buy the bike you want in the first place.
Sound daft, I don't think so. The SV is such a money pit with all the after market stuff you need to buy to make it look right, make it go right, make it sound right, make it handle right, make it stop right.
And then when you have done all that you will find that has no impact on valuation, desirability and everything is still a compromise.
Still it is some of the rawness of the SV that makes it fun. But at the end of the day a cheap bike does not necessarily mean cheap ownership.

:D Ah HA!!!! Carbon is subtle! No bling-bling,Neons,Blue L.E.D's etc! Anyway I like my bike,It's mine,ALL MINE!!!
No seriously,It really is down to personal taste,so if you want Gold 'Spinner' Wheels,Diamond valve caps etc,GO for it! BLING-BLING!!! :D

When I bought mine in knew the first thing i was going to do was get rid of the snow shovel at the back end as it looks crap and fit a tail tidy and got the rads grills as well as i thought both the rads were a bit vonrable to stone damage,
http://www.hamicad.co.uk/Discount.html , ok so now i get a nice mucky line up my back but who cares it washes off and the bike looks sooo much better now, then the next thing i changed was the mirrors by fitting chewys mirror extenders http://www.chewys-stuff.co.uk/ these make such a difference if your rear vision is a bit crap at the moment well worth the money, the double bubble screen I picked up off www.ebay.co.uk just by chance and the fuel exhaust is well priced with good build quality and sounds cracking

Hi drumroll, I got mine from Premier and in red too...good choice!
R and G mushrooms.....you gotta get 'em.
Forget the tarts handbag look....get yourself a gel seat and some new springs in the forks. How much did you pay in the end? I paid £4300 with a laserline alarm and the 2 yrs free servicing
:D to BEN650,
Wicked! Did you do all the work yourself?
I go for a more 'stock/sleeper' look, but I can appreciate the hard work that goes into bikes like yours! :D

cheers speedy  yeah did everything myself including painting,me and my dad have got a bodyshop so this is kinda our show bike  some people might call it a tarts hand bag  but it's better than having a standard bike and people saying"ive got one the same as that" :D
:D Excellent ben650!
The paint looks fantastic, looks like lots of metal-flke in there!?
What paint did you use? 'House of colour' do some luvly custom stuff, have you heard of them? They were big on the Hot Rodding scene.
If I had a bigger garage,I'd have ago at a project thats a bit more outrageous,(only a bit though) :D

Recommended Mods as follows.....
Scottoiler (so you can be a lazy a*&e with the chain)
Fender extender if you like
Rider training
Followed by some non-biro springs if you don't like the ones in there. But ride first.
Then go mad with the chavvy bits. As much purple and red anodised bits as humanly possible, LEDs everywhere, loud exhaust, screens undertrays and other plastic bits.
You know you want to.

Hiya!! I got R&G bungs - first bike so pre-emptive mod  , tail tidy cos the trail end looks so sweet without the snowshovel and a belly pan just cos I like it (so there!). Once I;ve saved up and actually learned how to ride the thing I'll get a new can, so will be demanding advice from the site :D
Oh yes, and just invested in a rear seat cowl again to tidy up the back end... Not too much bling I think, just makes the most of the clean lines and doesn't cost TOO much!!
Got a red one too... no black ones and I kinda like the K5 metallic red...
Have fun - that's the best accessory!!

What, "Tell that guy on the internet to hurry up, 4 and a half inches just isn't enough"?
Hi ya Drumroll
Just make sure you keep all the bits you take off in safe place, when the time comes to sell the bike
Put it back to standard trim as you will get more or less the same money for it, and then you can sell all the little extras separately to try and recover some of the cost.
Red bike with fender extender the only mod so far, will get round to fitting an oilier sometime.

I personally wanted to make it look a little more sporty and just how I wanted...
Current Addons:
- Full Lower Fairing
- Crash Bobbins
- Rear Set Cowl
- Small Decal along the middle of the fairing to break it up
Wish List:
- Twin Exhaust (Picking up on Monday)
- Fender Extender
- Rear Wheel Hugger
And that's all !
Just wanted it looking smart and a little sporty - and that's what I've got/will have :)
