Did you have to take the forks off or did he do them on the bike Although i feel you will probably say "took them off".
Mine have corrosion that i want to get shot of.
30 sqiud  cheap as chips "hurridly browsing the yellow pages"

i removed the forks myself, it was during a strip down any way and whilst the wheels were off being powder coated,
Ill give you a little tip, if you have the money an NWS (sp?) stand or simiillar are great, but i got a 10mm piece of steel from B&Q cut it down, it pokes through the bottom hole of the engine, behind th eoil filter, put the bike on the paddock stand, used the car jack to jack the bike up, then i used the bar through the engine into the holes on my car axels stands and it goves you an excellent height to work the front end on,
not th emost secure, but i jumped up and down and it didnt fall off... :) thebike was on the 10mm bar for about 3 months and the bar defelctd 5 mm permanently over that time so im happy its a safe working method :)
£30 was cheap, but it was a "little job" that he could fit in a coffee break...
just remember though by polishing you are exposing the bear metal so corrosion will still happen so keep a tube of autosol handy or get them laquered, he did offer to chrome them, but i suspec tthat would have taken it a bit far, at least this way i can polish any blemishes out.

Alex
