I did the Fosse Way thing (A429 to the non initiated) last Saturday, definitely a good little run. Beware there are three speed camers, one forward facing northbound and two rear facing south in the 50 limits.

I guess I'll tag on to what everyone else does.

I'd suggest starting at Chippers either at Sainsburys on the A350 or the Esso Burger King bit next to the golf place a bit further on. We'd take the A350 to the A429 to Malmesbury then Cirencester to Stowe etc, and carry on from there. Starting from Brizzle probablymeans a double back for the Swindonites. Starting from Swindon we could go up the 419 to Ciren which is a dual carriage way.

Any thoughts?

I reckon start at Chippenham, meet at the esso/burger king ( so stretchie can get his burger fix ) just by the golf club. For the brizzle crew come via the A420 when you get into chippenham pick up the A350 that'll take you down to the esso garage opposite morrisons.

From there head off towards Malmesbury, picking up the A429, go through cirencester sticking to the 429 go through stow, moreton on the marsh. Then the first roundabout we should come too will veer off to the A3400 into Stratford.
Now i haven't a clue where to go when we get there. I'll check with a mate tonight as i think he said theres a pub that bikers usually meet...unless anyone else can shed some light on this?...I'll keep you updated.

So who's up for it then? and what sort of time do people wanna set out?
Approx mileage from chippers too stratford 65 miles.

My problems arent life threatening... lol pain in the ass... yes.. but had a word with the mechanics, not likely to be throttle boddies being out of balance, more likely a fueling problem, or electrical.. stick coil being iffy... though a bloke with a ZX-10R on the Ninja forum had found that his side stand switch was causing simular problems on his bike, as it would resonate, and do iffy things to the bike....

Not sure what the heck i will be up too.. as will need Petrol money if I want to get back form the BBQ on monday!

There's a bike show at Shepton Mallett(Is that what its called???) This weekend.

We're going there after a rideout around Minehead etc. Keep your eyes peeled for the Sv1000s!

Suggest leave Nam (thats Chip Nam :) ) at around 10:30 (in the morning). Will take about an hour and forty to get there at a guess. It takes me about that in a car about that sort of time when I've done that route in the past. We should be able to park up and enjoy a pub lunch when we get there.

Cuffy, I'll do some digging for pubs as well. We 'could' include Warwick as well as it's just down the road.

For info, its the Chippenham Beer fest this week end as well..... which is nice :D

OK the map for Buger Thing is meeting place is:

Ok, a quick call to the local tourist info at stratford and they said there's a designated parking area for motorbikes in the town centre, Bridgefoot.
As for pubs they'll accomadate pretty much everyone, now being a town full of lovies n thespians (not lesbians stretchie) i think that a bunch of leather clad people walking around might get some unwanted attention...So backs to the wall people :D

Anyway here's a map of the town centre

http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.srf?x=390500&y=175500&z=3&sv=390500,175500&st=4&ar=N&mapp=newmap.srf&searchp=newsearch.srf&dn=740&ax=391069&ay=175567

I can always meet somewhere between Bristol n Nam e.g. somewhere on the A420 after the roundabout for the dual carriage way to the M4/M32 is one thought, any suggestions? I happy go with the flow.

Well, Im gutted as hell at the moment... went out, playing about on bike experimenting... stutters at 10K in 1st and 2nd.. no stutter in 3rd gear though.. no matter how hard I accelerated... BTW, 10K in 3rd is slightly above legal speed limits  nearly ran out of fuel on top of mountains in middle of no where... scarpered back to Aberdare ASAP  put petrol in bike.. now, I usualy go for the premium Unleaded stuff... but now at £1 a liter, that can eff off for a while! so put standard unleaded in.. also put some Redex in...

Out of curiosity.. theres a straight stretch of road running past Tesos which is a 60mph road.. so pulled out, thought what the hell.... opened up throttle hard in 1st.. and wehay! straight through with no stutter.. with front wheel in the air! result I thought! :D spent a while after that messing about on bike.. slowing right down, and opening up the throttle hard... guaranteed wheelie! no problems in 1st or 2nd gear.. no matter how hard I opened up the throttle...

Sent a text to Anna to tell you lot I was on 1000 sheep road... carried on for a while, then stopped for a few minutes... read reply off you lot....
Dont think you lot thought much of me at that point!
then set off again...

open up throttle, and BANG! stutter again at the normal place
(technicaly not a stutter, the engine cuts off, and then kicks back in again, though when your doing 45 ish in 1st gear at that point, and your engine cuts out for half a second.. your back wheel locks up!) and then, no matter how many times I tried... it kept on doing it :(

BUT... a change in fuel.. and the bike worked.. so I may attempt to take the fuel pump and filter out of the tank when I get a chance... even if its just to clean the filter....  So Im now thinking it is defo a fueling matter.. maybe running too lean?

Anyway... still undecided as what to do for weekend... no chance can I afford to go to Matts BBQ and run around on the weekend.. and have the bike with menders a week monday  so decision making time shortly!

OK, this is the plan.

We'll be aiming to leave Chippers Burger King (next to the Esso garage) at 10:00. Can fill up petrol as well.

To get there from the A420 (nice road), follow all the way past Castle Coomb till you get to a roundabout, take first exit sign M4. next roundabout go straight on for about 1/2 mile up a bit of a hill and go straight on at the next roundabout (theres a pub on the left called the Cepen Park). The next roundabout take the first left that takes you into the petrol and burger bit.

From the M4 (boring road but easier route) take Chippenham exit and follow A350 dual cabbage for a couple of miles Through two sets of lights, on the approach to the roundabout you'll see a golf place on your right as the two lanes merge into one. Enter roudabout and take the 2nd exit (from traffic lights on roudabout) towards to Esso garage / burger king.

Hi Akula,

If we leave Chippers at ten (more likely 10:15) we can be in Ciren by between 10:35 and 10:50, theres a superstore just off the first roundabout off the dual carriageway on the 429 from Kemble. We could meet up there, from memory is was a Waitrose but could be wrong (again). Recon an just over the hour to Stratford.

Just been out ermm... testing the bike again.. not got out of 2nd gear this evening  fine as can be... but now my cam chain is rattling to hell... need to sort out the tentioner on that thing now... Ooopss... what have I broke now

Well we all made it there and back, had food in a pub with some free entertainment in the form of a near punch up between some err 'supporters' of some kind. Took a wander near to the Royal Shakespear Theater near the water and even caught the sun a tad!

Hopefully we all got away with slowing down enough for that speed camera on the A429 that I was pointing to as people were overtaking some err.. slower traffic  I didn't see the thing flash anyway.

A fun rideout and got to put some more faces to names. Hope everyone had fun.

Steve, I just have to hear that new can with the baffle out :D

valleyboy
30-04-06, 09:40 PM
Bugger... bikes playing up again  I got too scared to overtake a lorry today  dont htink I will be doing any more rideouts until this is well and truely sorted.. its knocking the stuffing out of my confidence on the thing.. which is possibly a good thing.. as I switch into lunatic mode rather easily when it works properly! as Im sure some of you noticed on saturday!

Beenz
30-04-06, 09:53 PM
VB, this still sounds like a fuel starvation thing to me. If you have an inline filter it might be worth changng it.

Just another thought  maybe there is some water or crud in your tank, try draining it out (after a good blat to use as much as possible) and starting againg with a new lot. Just a thought :?

valleyboy
30-04-06, 10:06 PM
The filter is in the tank.. so I have to syphon the tank out, undo a few nuts/bolts on bottom of tank, pull out the fuel pump/filter assembly.. and then get to mess about with it... Im very much thinking its a fuel thing as well.. just praying its not the ECU going belly up... £500 to replace thats really going to get me into a good mood :?

I just want the thing to behave.... I sat behind that lorry for 20 odd minutes... (was on twisty part of the A470 at the time  ) plenty of oppertunities to go past, just didnt have the confidence to go... last thing I want is to start an overtake, and have it stuter as oncoming traffic gets a tad closer.. not that I havent done this before.. :P

Beenz
30-04-06, 10:19 PM
An ECU fault is more likely to shut down or fall back to a get me home mode, just affecting the first few gears (do you need any more :D ) is really looking like a different problem. I'm not totally sure these days but the ECU was not gear aware a few years ago. I'm out of ideas I'm afraid sorry

Did you try disconnecting the side stand switch which can cause similar problems you found from the resonating vibrations or something?

valleyboy
30-04-06, 10:29 PM
