View Full Version : So after my first ride into London....
....am still intact! No thanks to the many taxi's, scooters, couriers and blind cage drivers
My bro had warned me it was a bit iffy around soho in rush hour but i did not expect that. I thought it better to keep a cool head as was pointless giving the ****** sign every half minute to everyone like my mate was doing
I guess it just takes getting used to but i gotta say it was fun and to be able to park in a secure covered NCP for 3 quid all day is bloody good!
Saw a few SV's. A 53 plate svs parking up just as we were leaving. A red 05 svs with lowers in soho and a yellow 53 plate svs on the A41 in Edgware......
A big hello if it was anyone from here on those bikes :D

Yer you get used to it and just dont let anything get to you, you need your concentration at 100% all the time round there.

Yes, central London was mad last night, but then it often is. I usually ignore the couriers. Their job is riding in London traffic and they tend to be good at it. The same with taxis. They'll often try to push you around if you look nervous, but stand your ground and they're very unlikely to actually drive into you. Their cab is their livelihood, so they don't want to get involved in accidents.
Scooters are irritating, but are more of a danger to themselves than to you. Feel free to thump them if they carve you up.
Cage drivers are the main danger, especially the ones who change lane without warning, or looking. I'm constantly watching them for even the slightest sign that they're going to do something stupid. Even a change in their road position of a couple of inches can indicate that they may decide to suddenly manoeuvre without warning.

paris, try rush hour in vietnam!!!!
worst thing about driving in london is navigating, without GPS i get lost every time.
i just love riding in London. brings out the warrior in me.
Watch out for the bendy buses btw. Or any buses come to think of it - because theyre big and will damage someone else the drivers drive like its everyones duty to get out of their way. There are some nice ones though who frequently let me out of Torrens street :D

Don't think you can beat Commercial Road for such a high level of crap driving. Each time I go along it I get an extra grey hair. Which is a bit of a pain as it's my route home

Me too. Im adamant one day to video my ride in and submit it to DVLA for using as the next hazzard perception test. :D
Though I dont go fast enough to warrant grey hairs :P
