View Full Version : Taken out by a white van this morning - ouch !

Mr Toad
28-04-06, 10:07 AM
Yep, been back on the road for a couple of weeks, and a white van took me out on the way to work this morning - b*stard didn't even stop :hackedoff:

He pulled out of a petrol station on the other side of the road, I braked and swerved, but he sideswiped me and sent me off
I hit the kerb & then clocked up some flying time, but there were no roadsigns, so I had a nice gentle landing this time
My leather jacket has a few more scuffs, and someone seems to have left the imprint of a back protector on it

Bike is a bit of a mess, but not as bad as it could have been

Who's been adjusting my mirrors !

Radiator is sprung - coolant leaked out, but the R&G did its job this time :notworthy:

http://i74.photobucket.com/albums/i247/Mr_Toad_650/SV1000/Wheel.jpg

Going to need a new wheel as well I guess - I hope the forks aren't damaged

I have a witness who was following me, and I've already spoken to the garage about getting hold of the CCTV tapes, so Mr Plod might be able to catch the swine

I'm just off to the local A&E to get my ribs checked as they're a bit painful

see you shortly :crutches:

ps - don't tell Mrs Toad or she won't let me out to play any more

Hit & Run, deffo the garage should have CCTV of the van.

What a bummer.

Suzuki should realy not make the rad so wide, a little shorter and a tad taller would save the rad in most spills.

After seeing this, I think it's time me got some R&G's!
Least it's bent the bolt that's attached to the adaptor, not the engine

Least your 'ok', well, see what hopsital says about your ribs.. Good luck.

2 Quick questions if I may though, Noticed you havd R&G's on the front spindle did/do they help much on a prang?
Is that steering damper standard on a thou or aftermarket??

Hope you catch the tw*t that caused this .... :?

Chances are the van belongs to some pikey and is still registered to the owner that had it 3 changes of owner in the pub ago.

If you are lucky and they do trace him just hope he has insurance otherwise you need to start on the MIB claim.

Hope the bruises heal, and the bike can be fixed before Mrs Toad finds out.

Ha Ha Clive

Just think yourself lucky that you have not had to deal with them. The MIB (http://www.mib.org.uk) are your only source to recover some of the damage when the driver turns out to have no insurance or scarpers etc. Part of your premiums has to go to this organisation to reimburse the victims of scroat drivers.

Can't believe this Simon, apart from being outrageous it's just such bad luck - so sorry mate. Anything I can do (like assist in an organised beating) just let me know ;).

Best of luck getting the bike and yourself sorted, oh and explaining to Mrs Toad (which certainly has to be the worst bit   ).

Unlucky Toady, that's not a very nice thing to happen! If the CCTV doesn't pick up the reg plate for any reason they may have paid with a card so trace them that way. Hope the van man gets done.

They do take forever to pay up if they agree to at all. My accident was on the 3rd of December 2004, in March this year they finally refused to pay anything then after a few more letters from the solicitor they agreed to settle at 50% this month, I couldn't be bothered to take it further as it's taken long enough to get the 50%. Now I'm still waiting for them to contact me for a medical to check the extent of my injuries so I'll be lucky to get it sorted by August 2006, and the best bit is they will take off £300 of the total payment made to me as they do that with all claims made with them, not bad eh :x . Oh, and the police were useless at doing anything about it, even though a car went in pursuit and got the driver to come back  !

Hi mate

sorry to hear about this, although i'm glad you're ok. I only hope you don't have to go through the MIB as it's painful. So far they have lost all the Police records and then received a letter yesterday from my Solicitor saying they have lost all the medical records so at least they have the damage quote  Moral of the story keep copies of anything that goes near that place. Good luck

Apart from the fact that I'm so so glad that you did not sustain more injury than you did this time round...

...I would love to have been a fly on the wall when you made your feable attempts to explain things to Mrs Toad.

Let's hope for the right result and the van man gets caught, hung, drawn and quartered. :x :x :x

The ribs will get better, but the ears show all signs of developing into an ongoing condition

I guess the fork protector did something as its covered in mud

The steering damper is standard on the thou
