how good are they? I'm a tight cow and am umming and rrring over the money.

I'm not a die hard gamer but i'm due to do some long journeys and figured it would be cool to get one. I also heard that the psp games are to be compatable with the ps3

for info : my favorite pc game was the sims and i like rpgs

any thoughts??

Long journeys, non-hard core gamer: I would suggest a getting a DS instead.

It's cheaper, games are cheaper, it's more popular, plus the games are actually fun to play! :D

Plus if you grab a supercard and find :-dd some legal rom images you can play them for nothing..

Buy a book. They're great for long journeys.

Buy a book. They're great for long journeys.that IS an idea, but a game like lumines is always new. The book is the same story the second time you read it.

I was just given one as my leaving present from my current job - I was a bit gobsmacked cos they are not too cheap. I am not really a gamer, I had a PS2 but sold it cos I got a bit bored. Can anyone recommend any good racing games?

I bought one then decided to trade in the PS2 t get more stuff for it. I think they are a great piece of kit for journeys or even if you want a quick play. I find it much easier to pick up the psp than i ever did with the PS2, there's no fighting for the TV and stuff.

You can also play a lot of homebrew on all PSP software versions now (so long as you've got GTA for version 2.5 or higher). I must have about 200 snes games on my memory card.

Films are a great thing as well. Although UMD support looks to be on the wayout now from a lot of film houses.

Games i can recommend are:

Burnout legends
GTA: Liberty City Stories
Splinter Cell Essentials
Mercury

I'm quite looking forward to seeing Tombraider and Syphon Filter this coming month as well.

Ah but what do you do in the evenings or on those days when youre bored. I dont know how i'd get on camping without one now.

If you are going to be cheeky make sure you can spell  or is this an Olde Gaelic curse?

I had been looking at getting an MP3 player but I guess I can get a couple of memory sticks and put my tunes on there - a more versatile option even though it's not too small and not ideal for slipping into my pocket when on the mtb.

Only drawback so far is that I have been unable to find porn on UMD!

A friend at work has a PSP, he also does a lot of travelling. He bought a larger memory card (around £40 i think) and found some software on the web to rip DVD into mpeg format. He showed me and the quality looked good. Last time I saw he had a complete season of the Simpsons and a film or two on there. Better than splashing out on UMDs :D
