View Full Version : Mayday - What did you do??

Done my first mayday run to Hastings yesterday...

Sunday was spent giving the SV its summer clean, all gunk and oil and nasty stuff cleaned and removed from under the bike (round the stand etc), chain clean, paint polished (whats left  ), engine cleaned, framework metal polished, wheels metal polished etc... (well, about 5 hours) I knew it was meant to rain yesterday but it needed a proper decent clean badly....

So woke up at 8am monday, looked outside, clouds clouds and rain. Poo.. So we suited up and took a nice little ride down through the lanes to Locksbottom. Parked up for a little while (at which point the sun decided to come out) and decide to leave. I was parked on an uphill and lost balance when the missis jumped on and I went to pull away, doh, could not let myself drop it in front of all these people. A mear headbutt from the women on back and some straining kept the bike upright

So we headed down at a nice leisurly pace. I've done it before as a pillion, but never noticed HOW many people come out just to watch the bikes, groups of kids, teenagers, and adults parked all the way down the roads, covering every bridge, it was mad.

We stopped off every so often as we found we were catching the rain up, but eventually we made it to Hastings. Not a cloud in the sky, thousands and thousands of bikes. Lovley day.

Then took a nice chilled ride all the way home up the A21 then through Tonbridge and up to Brands Hatch.

All in all, superb day, looking forward to next years one...

PS.. Good points, didn't see one accident or biker pulled over all day!!! :)

Got a couple of pictures, will upload them later this week.

Essay Over

Morning spent sleeping off the excess of alcohol consumed on Sunday, then had to cut up and dump old garage door. Had a lucky escape with the angle grinder. I pulled it out of the socket stretching the cable, so put it down and went and plugged it back in.

Doh I had forgot to turn the bloody thing off, as it fell off the wall I left it on and landed about 3" from my hand as I was bent down trying to pull the plug back out.

Saturday:
Went out for a what was meant to be a half hour blast for two hours.
Stopped in a BPS Langar for a cuppa and sausage sarney. Talking to one of the skydivers about bikes (he had an old Guzzi). Watched some skydivers land, still have no desire to hurl myself out of an aeroplane again.

Gave the cage a good clean inside and out.
Drank some beer.

Sunday:
Good ride out to Mallory across the backroads.
Good racing too, shame did not get the second minitwins and sidecar race in as time ran out (no racing after 6pm on sunday at Mallory) because 3 or 4 races where stopped because of accidents.
Good ride home across backroads.
Drank some beer.

Monday:
Farted about all day trying to mend an old inspection lamp.
Had the company of a stunned parrot  in the garden as the silly bugger flew straight into the side of the house. Gave him some peanuts and some water and he stayed in the garden for a couple of hour while he recovered from his crash. :D

Drank some beer

Finished a small website for friends of my sis....

... and this morning I got the list of changes thru... You WOT????

Can you make this blue bit bigger?
But it's exactly the same size as it was in the mock that you signed off.

Can you add a calendar that we can update to show latest bookings?
Well, that wasn't even mentioned in the 'just a few pages with some pictures' brief... You willing to pay a lot more?

Argh!!!

A May Day well spent. Should've been out on my bike.

Got woken at 01.30 by my upset girlfriend to say the police were here as her 1969 morris minor had been stolen and rammed into some bollards by kids. i went to the storage place at 0900 and it was wrecked. really ruined our weekend! spent alot of time and effort on the car in the 6 years on owning it just for some little ******* to destroy it. when the police have finished with him i'm going to really hurt him!

Saturday had a lovely ride out to Stratford (upon Avon).

Sunday went to the local rowing regatta then to the Sailing Club, which I've now decided to join - anyone got a dinghy for sale??
So my future sundays are going to be bike in the morning and sailing in the afternoon - bliss!

Monday - BSB - Excellent!

was that just down the hill from locksbottom? you and your mates had just pulled out of a petrol station - me (silver sv) and a buddy on his triumph let you out.

if we're talking about the same incident she was lucky the car coming up the hill was not going any quicker.

erm........not sure daimo to be honest, there was something garish going on somewhere, either a very dayglo yellow/orange bits on the bike or on the kit. i left before catching sight of the victim, so no idea if that's her or not. twas deffo a girlie though.

it all happened a bit fast, looked as if it was a grabbing too much front brake on a damp road/white line kind of thing. probably 20 mph, bike spun across the other carriage way, rider also went for a mini slide. car coming up the hill did well to avoid her, braked and swerved on to the kerb. it could have been a whole load worse if.....

we stopped for a minute or two, loads of guys n girls went to help. she was in a group with a couple of SVs, a bmw GS1200 type thing and some others.

fairly undramatic, it was obviously going to spoil someone's day out but there you go.

What is Pear cider like? Never heard of it,sounds tasty!!!

Its cider made with pears instead of apples, really easy to drink(trust me!)as its not as sickly as normal cider.Cant remember brand name but it ends'burg'and witherspoons sell it in half litre bottles.mmmmmmmmmm

They do a swedish one, which is really just an alcopop. It's not even remotely related to cider and tastes of pear drops. Ikea sell it cheaply in cans. I'll drink it occasionally, if I'm in the right mood for it.
