Does anyone know a reliable riding school somewhere in Manchester - preferably around Sale or Urmston.

I'm not sure about Sale or Urmston, but if you go to the centre of Manchester Moto-technique near Victoria Station are pretty good. A guy at work has just done his CBT there and I passed my test with them donkeys years ago.
MOTO-TECHNIQUE
Arches 1&2, Millgate
Dantzic Street
Manchester
M4 4BS
Tel: 0161 833 4136
Fax: 0161 831 9391
Hope this helps 8)

Sale Yamaha might be able to recommend someone.
I'm sure there used to be one in Urmston called Sherwin something or other. Used to see folk with it written on yellow vests. Don't know if they still exist. Will do some asking :)
Edit:
Found them in the Mellow Sages:

How much did you pay? I spoke to a lad called Mel and he was really helpful. He said 12 hours will be fine to get me through. £25/hr. This sounds reasoble to me, plus as they are local it will be a big bonus. I actually went to have a look where it is but it was a just and ordinary bungalow with no sign of any riding school.

Yup, Mel Sherwin - that's his house!
But his house backs onto Milford Ave so he gets all the bikes out at the back.
The initial training and set up is sometimes done down the road at Wellacre High School. That's where the CBTs are done until riders are good enough to be taken out on the roads.
£25/hr is what I was paying doing most runs in 2hr sessions.
When are you getting started?
Even though I passed my test (restricted only being 20) last year I havn't got a big bike yet. I've got a 50cc Derbi Senda that I've been riding two years now but I havn't riden it this year as I am looking at getting a new SV at the end of this month.
Hope all goes well :D

I am glad to hear he's been helpful. I have a couple of accountancy exams to be done early in June. So it will have to be some time after that. Looks like mid June at the mo.
It looks like I will get a bike next summer or so. Not sure I will go for SV as I am more thinking about getting Honda Hornet or Kaw Z750 as I am 32 and insurence is not such a big isue for me as is perhaps for you.
Cheers pal. Will keep you updated. I live close to Curzon cinema. Where about you based then?

Z750 is good. However Honda's build quality is far better then others. So from that point of view it has to be the Hornet.
Chadwick's the place to be ... :D
