View Full Version : MS Word help needed please
I can't work out why the mneu bar has disappeared - y'know, the words 'File Edit Insert Tools' etc. Anyone know how to get them back?
Have you accedentally dragged it somewhere else on the screen?
Its like a toolbar in that respect. First thing to check for. :)
not that I can see / know of.
Caveat - make changes at own risk or make a backup of the registry keys first.
Found this for you, but never tried it:
STEPS
Since the incorrect Word view settings have been written to the registry, you have to edit a particular registry entry as follows to correct the problem:
1. Close Word 2000, 2002 (XP) or 2003.
2. From the Start menu, select Run.
3. Type regedit into the Run box, and click OK.
4. Open the following key:
* Word 2000: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Wo rd\Data.
* Word 2002 (Word XP): HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\W ord\Data .
* Word 2003: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\W ord\Data .
5. Highlight the Data key, and press [Del].
6. Confirm that you want to delete the key.
7. Close the registry.
8. Launch Word again. The toolbars and menu bar are reset to their default options.
Also
You can try clicking the right-mouse-button around the top of the Word window. A menu should appear that lists all the available menu bars, so you can select the ones you need.
Only thing I can think of is your on full screen view.
Press Alt + V to get the view menu up, then see if theres a tick by Full Screen option. Or select the option again - if you are, then it should toggle it off.
PS Try this before you go editing your registry :wink: :lol:
PPS If you need to reset, right click over the toolbars, select Customise, select Options tab and then click on the Reset Menu & Toolbar Usage buttons.

I agree with Lyn, if in doubt make a backup first :roll:

try some of the hotkey shortcuts, eg Alt+V then T and that should bring up the toolbar menu - the one you want is the menu bar
Do this. http://helpdesk.wisc.edu/page.php?id=1054&menu=1
'Search is complete. There are no files to display'.
sounds like you are in full screen mode. On my current version, you just have to hit escape and it comes back. On older veriosn, it was something like F11 that toggles full screen mode etc. tyr them

Its the actul main toolbar hes lost, the one that has the words in in it, and you only loose that by hitting full screen. You cant deselect it.
Glad to be of surface :D
I really can't worjk this out. How do I get out of full screen? Yes, I'm stupid. Alt + V just makes the beep noise.

Just hitting f10 on mine fixes it.....you get full screen with a single line toolbar and that allows you to close the thing properly. (also on mine is a small Full Screen icon in bottom RH corner but that may click off over time).
YAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY I got my menu bar back.
Thank you everyone for all your help. It would help if I had an ounce of sense to be able to interpret Lyn's instructions :stupid:
