Ok - have been thinking of a Gel seat- dont to too many miles- only on the Anuual rideouts..

as I said in a previous post... I have some of that memory foam from the bed - a topper.... left over ! as we stopped using it- it was a double- but I cut it in half for camping- then Kim decided in her infinite wisdom that we dont want to camp anymore( h ha she camping on sat night on the AR06).

anyway - i done it....

took seat off.. cut some foam and then re covered.. with me staple gun etc etc.. was quite easy really-

I am not overly happy with the result- looks wise.. but I will do it again after I have ridden for a while if it proves to ease the pain..!!......

can you still get those heated wire cutters for polystyrene!!!... i am sure i could shape the foam with that really easy-

anyway heres the pics.. will let u know the rtesults in terms of comfiness on me bum!!...

Ok-

so it is a work in progress..

only 5 mins work to revert it back to standard...

i think I will ride it a bit and see if its different and if it is I will fashion a complete shaped piece of "memory" foam to replace he original ...

"faffing with that bloody bike again so close to Neil and Vicky calling " .

Don't know if it will work with your memory foam but when i cut down the standard foam in my seat i reprofiled it with coarse sandpaper, makes a bit of mess but works real well.

gooood idea.... the memory foam aint as rigid as the other..

ED i got loads more... !!! WD 40...

sometimes my local Tesco - the garage mess up!!.. and price stuff wrong and even at point of sale on the EPOS it is wrong so doesnt get picked up on !!....

so I go loads and send the wife and a few mates go... so i stock up....

did the same once with windscreen washer fluid.. had 30 litre bottles of ot cos they had it priced at 25p.!!!!

hey thats about 50 year sold that hammer- twas my dads..!!

(dont do the just had anew head and 2 new shafts !! joke) its all original..

"the persuader" my dad called it !!

got an electric staple gun! but they needed some gentle assitance- that plastic is hard!

Oh and just fe rinfo- the drawers- 2 sets of wooden ones- were my fathers fathers fishing tackle drawers.!! they are beautifully made- .. my grandad is long gone and my dad had a stroke - so I bagged them ! for posterity !.. (and storage)

yea it feels better..!! serious..

Just needs re doing "properly" now and shaping more....

it does feel comfier.. honest- .....

mind you tat foam aint cheap... ! we bought a "topper" double for our bed as wife has a wierd bad back- it was £190.!!

now we have a new bed and special mattress..! so it is a shame to cut it up really... but- it wa sonly being used for camping- and now she doesnt want to camp- like I said earlier- except when we do the AR 06 !!......

mattSV
14-05-06, 07:00 PM
How big was the mattress - got any bits left over

Quiff Wichard
14-05-06, 07:21 PM
got a whole half left over !!!!......

like size of a single bed- as per one of the pics..

why you wanna buy a piece big enough to do yours .. pro rata from £90 .... !! (HALF THE £ OF THE FULL ONE !) ...

I AM SURE i COULD CUT IT UP INTO SQUARES BIG ENOUGH TO DO A SEAT.! and post it out.. ! ... and make mesen some dosh !>>>>>

only problem i have is i dont have a heavy duty stapler to finish job. where would you get one :?: i do like this idea as i started a previous thread about how uncomfortable i found the standard seat after about a 70 mile stint.

a few others had same problem. does it raise your seat hieght much or is it hardly noticable :?:

think the electric carving knife is the way to go for the final shaping :)
