Ok, game over I 'win' !! :D

I. Overture

And the meek shall inherit the earth
... huge amount of stuff snipped ...

Any more long ones like that and I might have to post "Thick as a Brick" (45 minute prog-rock song which took up both sides of an LP)

Hold a Chicken in the air
Stick a deckchair up your nose
Climb inside a dog
and then bury all your clothes
Paint your left knee green
and extract your wisdom teeth
form a string quartet
and pretend your name is Keith

beautiful man.

Bugger, I can't remember; who was that? Not the Nine O'clock maybe?

This used to be my favourite... And it's totally a white-boy rap ;) lets see if I remember it all...

Apes Pigs and Spacemen, PVS.

We're all living in a permanent vegetative state
without means of protection or redress for the mistakes
Taught the truth is absolute and unchanging,
Instead of challenging, searching, testing, trying, modifying, opening our minds eternally
There's an imperative need to believe, to belong, while never giving a true examination,
But no-one ever entered into the struggle without measuring the cost,
and I'll tell you one thing- this time I'll be ready for you (repeat)

These lines from Waltzing Matilda by The Pogues always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I see the old men, all twisted and torn
The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask me, what are they marching for?
And I ask myself the same question

The full lyrics are worth a mention.

When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover
From the Murray's green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my matilda all over
Then in nineteen fifteen my country said son
Its time to stop rambling cause theres work to be done
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun
And they sent me away to the war

And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we sailed away from the quay
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed off to Gallipoli

How well I remember that terrible day
When the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called suvla bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter
Johnny Turk he was ready, he primed himself well
He showered us with bullets, he rained us with shells
And in five minutes flat hed blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia

But the band played Waltzing Matilda
As we stopped to bury our slain
And we buried ours and the Turks buried theirs
Then it started all over again

Now those who were living did their best to survive
In that mad world of blood, death and fire
And for seven long weeks I kept myself alive
While the corpses around me piled higher
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me **** over tit
And when I woke up in my hospital bed
And saw what it had done, Christ I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worse things than dying

And no more Ill go Waltzing Matilda
To the green bushes so far and near
For to hump tent and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more waltzing matilda for me

So they collected the cripples, the wounded and maimed
And they shipped us back home to Australia
The legless, the armless, the blind and insane
Those proud wounded heroes of Suvla
And as our ship pulled into circular quay
I looked at the place where me legs used to be
And thank Christ there was nobody waiting for me
To grieve and to mourn and to pity

And the band played Waltzing Matilda
As they carried us down the gangway
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
And they turned their faces away

And now every April I sit on my porch
And I watch the parade pass before me
I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving the dreams of past glory
I see the old men, all twisted and torn
The forgotten heroes of a forgotten war
And the young people ask me, what are they marching for?
And I ask myself the same question

And the band plays Waltzing Matilda
And the old men still answer to the call
But year after year their numbers get fewer
Some day no one will march there at all

Waltzing Matilda, Waltzing Matilda
Who'll go a Waltzing Matilda with me?

Band's already been mentioned...

Lying back, scratching the sky
I'm wasted but I can't get high
Right here, right now won't let me be
Right here, right now means **** to me

I remember everything!
I remember every little thing as if it happened only yesterday.I was barely 17 and I once killed a boy with a fender guitar.
I don't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster,but I do remember
that it had a heart of chrome and a voice like a horny angel.
I don't remember if it was a Telecaster or a Stratocaster, but I do remember
that it wasn't at all easy.
It required the perfect combination of the right powerchords and the precise angle
from which to strike.
The guitar bled for about a week afterwards and the blood was
ooh...
dark and rich like wild berries.
The blood of the guitar was Chuck Berry red!
The guitar bled for about a week afterwards and it rung out beautifully ,
and I was able to play notes that I had never even heard before.
So I took my guitar and I smashed it against the wall!!
I smashed it against the floor!!
I smashed it against the body of a varsity cheerleader!!
I smashed it against the hood of a car
I smashed it agianst a 1981-Harley Davidson... (who wouldn't? :-k )
The Harley howled in pain, the guitar howled in heat!
I ran up the stairs to my parents bedroom
Mommy and Daddy were sleeping in the moonlight
slowly I opened the door creeping in the shadows right up to the foot of the bed
I raised my guitar high above my head and just as I was
about to bring the guitar crashing down upon the center of the bed
my father woke up screaming:
"stop...wait a minute..stop it,boy"
"what do you think you're doing???
That's no way to treat an expensive musical instrument"
And I said "god damn it, daddy!!! You know I love you....."
"BUT YOU GOT A HELL OF A LOT TO LEARN ABOUT ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!"

My favourite lyrics are all from songs by the doctors Adam Kay and Suman Biswas who I believe made a CD to raise funds for their hospital... absolutely fantastic, and too many to list!

Can't believe I forgot this one. It's in my sig!

1952 Vincent Black Lightning by Richard Thompson. Yes, it's another song about death - I have macarbe musical taste, but it's also one of the best biking songs ever written. I know that a number of people here love it from comments I've received about my sig. Red-heads and black leather, yes definitely my favourite colour scheme!

Says Red Molly to James, "That's a fine motorbike.
A girl could feel special on any such like."
Says James to Red Molly, "My hat's off to you.
It's a Vincent Black Lightning, 1952.
And I've seen you on the corners and cafes, it seems.
Red hair and black leather, my favorite colour scheme."
And he pulled her on behind,
And down to Box Hill they'd ride.

Says James, to Red Molly, "Here's a ring for your right hand.
But I'll tell you in earnest I'm a dangerous man;
For I've fought with the law since I was seventeen.
I've robbed many a man to get my Vincent machine.
And now I'm twenty-one years, I might make twenty-two.
And I don't mind dying but for the love of you.
But if fate should break my stride, then I'll give you my Vincent to ride."

"Come down, come down, Red Molly", called Sergeant McRae.
"For they've taken young James Aidee for Armed Robbery.
Shotgun blast hit his chest, left nothing inside.
Oh, come down, Red Molly, to his dying bedside."
When she came to the hospital, there wasn't much left.
He was running out of road. He was running out of breath.
But he smiled, to see her cry.
And said, "I'll give you my Vincent to ride."

Said James, "In my opinion, there's nothing in this world
Beats a '52 Vincent and a Redheaded girl.
Now Nortons and Indians and Greevses won't do.
They don't have a soul like a Vincent '52."
He reached for her hand and he slipped her the keys.
He said, "I've got no further use for these.
I see Angels on Ariels in leather and chrome,
Swooping down from Heaven to carry me home."
And he gave her one last kiss and died.
And he gave her his Vincent to ride.

Ah yes, good old Not the Nine o'Clock News. Verse 2 is not quite welcome on this forum but the "sounds like" value of the lyrics of this one always make me smile!!!!

I like trucking, I like trucking,
I like trucking and I like to truck.
I like trucking, I like trucking,
If you don't like trucking, tough luck.

On the road, you must be brave and tireless,
On the road, you can listen to the wireless,
On the road, you eat café food with pride,
You can throw it up outside.

The greatest kick in trucking comes from knocking down a biker,
Or swinging round a roundabout and picking up a hiker,
You're chatting up that piece of skirt who's sitting by your side,
Then pop the crucial question - a ride for a ride?

I like trucking, I like trucking,
I like trucking and I like to truck.
I like trucking, I like trucking,
If you don't like trucking, tough luck.

Perhaps the greatest laugh of all, that makes this life worthwhile,
Is waving on the car behind, giving him a smile,
With glasses and with gratitude, he revs his little load,
And meets another trucking truck, a-trucking down the road.

On the road, you must be tough and ruthless,
And the rumours that we're gay are truthless,
On the road, you can wear your shirtsleeves rolled,
You eat chocolate when it's cold.

From behind, we like to sneak up on you from behind,
Never mind, if you hit 'em never mind.

We like trucking, we like trucking,
We like trucking and we like to truck.
We like trucking, we like trucking,
If you don't like trucking, tough luck.

I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a big ol' truck
Pedal to the metal, hope I don't run out of luck
Rollin' down the highway until the break of dawn
Drivin' a truck with my high heels on

My diesel rig is northward bound
It's time to put that hammer down
Just watchin' as the miles go flyin' by
I'm ridin' twenty tons of steel
But it's sure hard to hold the wheel
While I'm waiting for my nails to dry

Oh, I always gotta check my lipstick in that rear view mirror
And my pink angora sweater fits so tight
I'm jammin' gears and haulin' freight
Well, I sure hope my seams are straight
Lord, don't let my mascara run tonight

Because I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a big ol' truck
Smokey's on my tail and my accelerator's stuck
Got these eighteen wheels-a-rollin' until the break of dawn
Drivin' a truck with my high heels on

Oh, I don't mind when my crotchless panties creep right up on me
And my nipple rings don't bother me too much
But when I hit those big speed bumps
My darling little rhinestone pumps
Keep slippin' off the mother-lovin' clutch

But still I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a big ol' truck
Headin' down the interstate, just tryin' to make a buck
Wearin' feather boas with sequins and chiffon
While I'm drivin' a truck with my high heels on

I'm drivin' a truck
Drivin' a truck
Got a load to carry and some eyebrows left to pluck
And I'm late for my appointment down at my hair salon
So I'll be drivin' a truck with my high heels on

I see life and it's passin' right before my eyes
And the past is the past don't regret it, time to realize
I need to walk on the wire just to catch my breath,
I don't know how or where but I'm goin' it's all that I have left

It don't matter where it takes me
Long as I can keep this feeling runnin' through, my soul

Never took this road before -- destination unknown
Oh oh oh ohohoh -- destination unknown
Won't be coming back this way gotta go it alone
Oh oh oh ohohoh -- destination unknown

See a chance gotta take it wanna meet my fate
'Cause the last thing I ever wanted was to find out it's too late
No way out when you're in it deeper than the night
There's a light at the end of the tunnel and I see it burning bright

It don't matter where it takes me
Long as I can keep this feeling soarin' through, my soul

Never took this road before -- destination unknown
Oh oh oh ohohoh -- destination unknown
Won't be comin' back this way gotta go it alone
Oh oh oh ohohoh -- destination unknown

By the Bard of Manchester:

All men have secrets and here is mine
So let it be known
We have been through hell and high tide, I can surely rely on you?
And yet you start to recoil, heavy words are so lightly thrown
But still i'd leap in front of a flying bullet for you

I'm putting all my CDs on MP3 so I've found some forgotten gems...

Silver Ginger 5 (Ginger from the Wildhearts' band) with Monkey Zoo:

Death,
though going on worldwide
still takes you by surprise
okay, you had to go,
but i bet you didn't know
that you'd take
a piece
of me away with you
now it's too,
damn late to say I love you

I'd love to find some really good Mull Historical Society lyrics, but they're all rubbish. But the songs are fantastic.
