On the news they are talking about when Tony Blair stands down and hands the power to Gordon Brown.
Why Gordon? Isn't John Prescott the deputy PM? :?
If Blair was other wised indisposed then 2 jags steps in, so why is the Chancellor going to become PM? Is it because he's higher or that his party has eleceted him to take over. :?
If thats the case why on earth is 2 jags still deputy???? :? :?
Nobody could answer me this yesterday.
hasn't prescott been relieved of many of his duties and his new monicker is leader of the house?
Prescott porked that bird and muckied his ticket didn't her?
I though it was an internal party thing. Labour are the elected party and they can do a fair bit of shuffling around within their(OUR) government.
Chancellor is a good gig, long as the economy isn't in dire straits no crap would stick to him, until he gets found out having choke sex with a rent boy I suppose.
I think Gorden has been down to take over from Tony for a while nowbefore the council elections no idea why tho. i thought prescott would take over :?

Ostensibly, "Two shags" is the second in command and fills the job of deputy PM. However, on the resignation of the party leader, the idea is that the party hold an election for the new leader and therefore the new PM. Fat **** prescott doesn't stand a chance as the groundswell of support is behind slack jawed Brown.
My own view is that Brown is a bit of a freeloader and has been rather lucky with the economy so far. His book balancing has been a bit wayward for example as he managed to get us from no defcit (a good thing) into a huge hole last year. Thankfully, the bust hasn't followed the boom - yet.
Edit for spelling
It's 'cos Prescott is perceived within the Labour Party as representing rank and file members and the trade unions.
Working class lad from Hull etc. Ex shop steward
Whereas the PM and Chancellor are grammar school etc.

So what's the point in having 2 Jags as deputy then? :?
If Tony Blair had an accident then John boy would be PM!

What makes a good deputy doesn't make a good PM. It's not like Vice President. More like Queen Mother ;) It's a position they made up themselves.
It's either Gordon Brown, or zombie John Smith. I'd vote for the zombie, but that might not be good electoral sense. Most of the other Labour movers and shakers are either too creepy or too rubbish. Or too old school.

Next time Prescott's answering questions in the house, as he gets up to speak I'd love to see the the entire opposition take out cocktail sausages and start munching them...

As someone said, deputy doesnt make a good leader.
Prescotts there to unite the party with the new labour behind Bliar & Brown and old stylee union orientated labour behind Prescott.
And tbh, if Bliar sacked him for this then that would raise calls now over his leadership following on Clarkes sacking and moving Kelly. I think its just a matter of timing. Dumping three at one go would be pretty drastic and raise concerns over the ability of Bliar to lead. One sacking, one transfer and one demotion is less overt. However, I do think Kellys and Prescotts cards are marked. And time will see them moved again or sacked outright.
But Browns always been seen afaik as Bliars successor. Prescott doesnt have the general appeal to the electorate. Frankly, I dont want the world to see a thug represent us and say this is the best we can do.
What depresses me is that none of them are really the best we should have. :(

Sad but true Lyn. Nice quote I heard there, "Voting Labour is like wiping your ****, not pleasant, but much better than the alternative".
