Just watched the testimonial. The game itself was a bit of a play, Newcastle winning 3-2 after going 2-1 down getting the softest of 2nd goals in the 89th and then an even softer penalty from Sir Les for the big man to step up from the bench to fire us to victory ;) A lot of tributes from many stars and to see even Al getting choked up at the end. True legend. Theres only one Alan Shearer

i think he'll stay next season.....but im not sure about beyond that

Its who plays with him what intrigues me. Shola nor Chops are good enough for the role full time.

Thought Chopra showed a lot of commitment against Chelsea, but like you say, not good enough at this level...

Who will Roeder bring in this summer :?: :-k

Still like to see James Beattie at the Toon :!:

Unless I missed some dry wit in your comment Cloggsy? Big Al has bullied ref's since time began mate. that is in no way taking away what a real Boy's Own hero he was.

Bullying Ref's isn't moaning though Pete... Moaning is what the rank & file of Chelsea do when things don't go their way...

Shearer used to take it and give it out just as much, that is all part of the game (well, IMHO anyway :!:)

Tell you something else... If he was fit, I'd have begged & pleaded with him to come to Germany :!: Rather a fit Alan Shearer, that a crocked Rooney and Owen :!:

Personally I think he got punished for sweet FA most of the time and could probably do one more season as sub (just not on 114k a week though eh). I think John Terry made him think of retirement must have been awful in his pocket :? . . .

. . . and I'm a Geordie.

Im absolutely gutted he's gone the first real legend i've seen go, Bergkamp as well this season. Testamonials are a bit like that. I went to see Simon Garners (Rovers Top scorer) and he magicically got a penalty in the 2 mins he was on the pitch. Mike Newell scored a quality goal though.

Anyway i am truly sad to see him go, was great seeing him score for the last time. Although i thought he should have played us, why Celtic?

As for refs, after what Rennie did to him you'd thin he's be allowed to moan about them :) absolute disgrace.

No doubt the guy can score goals. But IMO he's no better than a number of other strikers we've seen in the premiership. The reason HE holds the record is because he has been playing in that one league since it started.

If you gave Van whatsit, Henry or Rooney that amout of time I reckon they'd come up with more or less the same amount of goals. But definately the best British striker we've had since Gary Lineker.

However, he's still a cheating bastid, and gets positive descrimination by refs, IMO....

For what Alan Shearer meant to the English game he deserves the plaudits. I also admire his choice to follow his heart and go to Newcastle.

I wonder though if he ever considered the amount of trophies he would have collected if he had gone to United? He was perfect for them it has to be said, and their golden years would have been even more spectacular with him on board I reckon.

He has reaped very little from his career in truth but that does not take away the massive contribution he made to all of the clubs he played for and also for England. 8)

Guess Time will tell 'eh :?:

Shearer did it first, He is Newcastle United all-time goal scoring record holder & he'll hold that for a good while yet :!:

I'm glad he was Captain of my club (Christ knows what we'll do without him next season ) he was a true leader amongst men :!: I sincerely hope we'll see him there as Manager one day...

It takes a special player to hang around for that amount of time... Maybe Henry would score if he stayed that long but lets not forget he was wasting away on the wing not scoring very many at Juventus before Wenger signed him so he wouldn't of had that amount of time.

Les Ferdinand, Andy Cole Robbie Fowler.... there are lots of strikers that have had the whole of the premiership to get near Alan fact is no one has. He has done it no disrespect at 2 Clubs that arn't the best in the land (Im a Rovers fan remeber). His scoring record is second to none and he played like a real football player no diving and snubbing United to goto his home town.

First of all, and I know I'm a Gooner, but I have to say that for 3 of the 5 seasons Henry has played in the premiership he has been top scorer. Shearer hasn't had that acolade for a few years now. But Cloggsy's right, Shearer was the first "Super Striker" in the Premier League and his record stands to be broken.

I don't really rate Fowler, Cole or Ferdinand in the same league, they're all good, but not "great"....

Imagine having Shearer at his best playing with Henry. Got to be looking at 50/60 goal s a season.

Sorry to all you Toons but shearer was the man who lost us the game against the Argies where Beckham got sent off. If he didnt go up with his elbows out, Sol Cambols goal wouldnt have been disallowed and we would have won the game instead of going to penalties.

I know he's been touted as the premierships first super goal scoring hero but how many of his 'goals' have come from the penalty spot a third , half? he was not shy at having a sly kick at his opponents too if he thought he could get away with it, however i shall miss him as loyalty to a club like hes shown is sadly lacking in todays game.'

Would have, could have, should have!

If Shearer didn't score his goals in previous games we would not have been their to play the Argies

He has got a lot of pens but if you watched the FA cup any hammers fan will tell you they are harder than they look. What top striker doesnt take pens anyway?

Owen will still be at Newcastle next season - no chance he's going back to Liverpool.

We need another top striker and im hoping we get Eidur Gudjohnnsen. I think he'd be an ideal partner for Owen.

I dont think Shearer would be any good at the WC because he isnt an impact player and wouldnt start. I think Sheringham would be a better choice - his intelligent link up play would still add something to the team.

yea Rob-

or his first touch couldbe a hand ball!!

mind you if were a hand of god.. touch in the penalty area.. and resulted in a goal..would WE complain!?

Van or Aston for me. No one really stands out to play with owen at the moment. I think Luque could turn out to be an outstanding player but he wont get the chance I can see it. UBER GOALS (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3463539122903331747&q=albert+luque)
