The M6 toll but you have to pay for the privilege of doing 70mph + 50 bonus mph
Ouch!! That couldn't have hurt.................
MUCH!!!
:D
1 person dead. 2 seriously injured.
Sorry I fail to see how that even warrants a " :D " tbh. :?
Apologies if Ive missed the point you were trying to make. :?

1. Its not EVERY single Bl***Y post.
2. Frankly if you think this is something funny, I dont. To put what you did following someones death and two serious injuries THEN follow it with a :D is in pretty poor taste.
No amount of criticising me will deflect that.
Sorry you're right.... its not every single post... just MOST OF THEM!!!

Dont take every criticism personally - it really isnt. I just fail to see how something like this warranted a :D response.
=D> =D> fight,fight,fight...only kidding...i'm with you on this one lyn...was in bad taste imho...but then again mine dont count for sod all :D

I found that post in bad taste and said so - basically I doubt she would have posted anything like that had it been a biker down.

No don't go.I like your warped sense of humour,as it's a bit like mine.
I know I'm odd but I can laugh at pretty much anything, and that can upset some people.

Agreed.
Start by buying a tv and stop spending so much time on here looking for an arguement.
No offence but a serious crash including someone being killed and someone puts at :D people will take offence i'm with lyn on this one

Think this has been dealt with now.
Back to the original thread. Terrible. I wonder sometimes how this can still be allowed to happen. There HAS to be a way of stopping vehicles crossing the centre reservation. Why the hell is it not implemented. :x

Its unusual for a lorry to do it though, they are usually in the inside lane or middle lane if overtaking another lorry, for him to serve all the way over and cross the central reservation is a big move.

Cost is prohibitive and it's unlikely that there is enough space between the two flows of traffic to put something in that can stop 44 tons travelling at 60 mph (whatever that mulitplies to in terms of kinetic energy) ripping through it as if it was butter.

I agree. Nothing is going to stop a truck at full chat.
Fell asleep, tyre blew, tried to avoid another vehicle?
Maybe a gap between the two carriageways but that ain't even an option.
it wasn't long ago (easter) that a lorry carrying fuel ignited not much further north n the M6 either

Yes rode past that spot near the road services illegal exit at garstang the next day and the road had been replaced on a couple of lanes on a couple of lanes. However for this neck of the woods there have been some horrors including:
Britain's worst motorway crash on record happened in 1985, on the M6 near to Forton (now Lancaster) Services, when 13 people were killed and many others injured after a coach and ten other vehicles collided, bursting into flames.
On October 28th 1987, just after 1 p.m., 12 people were killed and 6 injured when a diesel tanker collided with at least 6 other vehicles, causing what was described as a huge fireball. This time the scene was the M61, about a mile south of the junction with the M6. Although a 30 mph advisory speed restriction was in force, due to a lane closure further north, police said that traffic approached the narrowed section much too fast. It took fire crews over six hours to disentangle the wreckage. The total cost of this one accident may have been as high as £4.5m (source: Guardian newspaper - 30/10/87).
On 29 December 2001, a stretch of one of the UK's busiest motorways was closed after crashes involving 40 vehicles brought traffic to a standstill. Two people were injured as a result of the collisions, which led to police closing part of the northbound carriageway of the M6 in Cheshire. Motorists were forced to leave the motorway at junction 16 before being allowed to rejoin at junction 17. A Cheshire Constabulary spokeswoman said that their advice to motorists in the area was to avoid that part of the M6 and find an alternative route, but a senior officer warned that drivers themselves carried a burden of responsibility when it came to safer motoring.
The M61 one happened about 1/2 a mile from my home. A mate was one of the fireman who had to pull the cindered bodies out. He has always said it was the most horrible shout they had ever had.
However, when you consider motorways are supposed to be the safest of roads, you have to ask yourself just how did 40 vehicles manage to collide on the M6 near Crewe

I would wager that it was because the drivers of a few cars were driving to close the car in front and couldnt stop when the car in front slowed or braked.

Yep, its scary when people tailgate at those speeds because you just know they cant stop.
But isnt weather also a factor? IIRC wasnt one of these in foggy conditions too?
Because some people become a huge liability for everyone else when they continue to tailgate and speed in really appalling weather conditions. :(
