I know a few of us were talking about this in the pub.. but I have been thinking how about doing this say 4th July take half a day off and go down there.. I want to go into bournemouth to get new leathers so would kill a couple of birds with one stone!!

How does that date suit people!?

Sounds like a plan..... will probably end up taking the entire day off anyway.. and next day to recover....

I may take half a day as well (even though I don't need to) and we could meet up prior to the evening for a pie and a pint somewhere.

I'm on Holiday that week, If any of you lot want to meet up somewhere and follow me into Poole let me know.

I wont be hanging about speed wise though so you have been warned. Its best to get there early especially if its a hot day as its busy then and if you get there late you have to park in the overflow carpark and walk back to the Quay and its a bit of a trek.

Oh and stick a £1 coin to your yoke or somewhere you can get easy access to it, saves messing about when you get the Marshalls and the entrance.

anna

looks like I will now be in Wales that day for a training course and it doesnt finish till 5 so it will be a bit to late for me to treck that far :(

yes I think we should really.. how long do you think it would take to get from Bristol down to you guys ?

Depends which way you come. It takes me an hour to get to Poole from Yeovil. I reckon if you come down the A37 then on a week day that it going to take you an hour to get to Yeovil from Bristol.

You really need to try and get to Poole by 6:30, 6:45 ish on a hot day as it gets busy and if you get put in the overflow carpark its a huge walk back to the Quay.

You'll need £1 to get in. Get some tape and stick it onto your fork yoke that way you dont have to rumage in your pockets for it when you get to the front of the queue.

If we're going it will have to be setting out after 5 so getting there for 6.30 may be pushing it but we could try to.....

The trip shouldn't be to long I think it was about 1 1/2 hours when I went last year. But that was starting in Sunny Swindon.

So I would reckon about the same, lets do it

I'll try and pop along at somepoint... my parents are on about putting the caravan down that way at somepoint later this summer (whats left of it) so I can pootle down, and have somewhere to stay.. with bike under cover for night as well

I work in Swindon so could go direct from work. I'm up for going along sometime soon, this week is out though, I have two peoples work to do this week.

Not bothered where the start point is, if the sun shines and peeps are going I 'could' work from home to get a better start (meetings permitting).

The caravan is bigger than your tent

There are many camp sites down there as well, but that might mean a weekend (depending on holiday allowance and date). A nice area to stay at. Now have the kit so happy to use it :D

OK the forcast tomorrow is better than today. In fact looks reasonable over Poole way, so tomorrow is an option. We'll probably want to leave quite early, say six ish. The route and departure point will depend on who's interested.

... there is always next week... or the one after...

I've been saying the same thing but it's starting to get a tad late. I guess we have three, maybe four chances before the light starts to go before we'd get there. We could even meet somewhere on the way to reduce some distance.

Thoughts as always welcome.

Could go twice

31-07-06, 07:11 PM
My parents are likely to put the caravan down St Austells way.. which isnt quite where they usualy put the bloody thing..... as they have visited Pool Quay when there are bikes there.... will also have to look at mileage etc.. as it will also be effing expensive on petrol getting there!

31-07-06, 07:15 PM
I've always fancied doing this but 12hr nights have meant it's not an option.

I'm off this week and next week so they are my only option really, Beenz if you decide to go tomorrow let me know, and i'll see what I can do, bit short notice though. Next week would be better, any idea what the 7 day forecast is? wouldn't like to do it in the wet to be honest.

The most 'accurate' forcast  is http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/

It's not too bad tomorrow but things have a habit of changing like the weather. I'd like to go if its dry, I don't mind too much if it rains on the way back though. Next week (and following weeks) might be much better or much worse.

I'm up for going more than once. If it looks pants tomorrow I 'll wait.

Doc, you should be able to ride the atlantic on the beemer

Sorry lads, just did an auto route and the quickest route works out at over two and a half hours for me, thats obviously not taking into account any recomendations of 'good roads' along the way!!
Have to count me out, might be different if it was a full or even half day ride, but bit far for an evening................. :(

thanks for the heads up rich

Would have to pop home to get leathered up but should be ready for a 6 o'clock off depending where we start from.

Let me know...

Beenz
01-08-06, 11:03 AM
OK, it's still looking cloudy outside here in costa del Swindon but the MET office says it should be OK.

We've got a choice of routes, If we go from Swindon, it's easy, we just follow the A338 Marlborough/Andover/Salisbury to Ringwood then follow signs to Poole.

From Nam, we could go A350 all the way.

From Brizzle, we could meet at the Little chef in Cips and ham and do the above.

Any preferences? I think we should be off before six if possible.

Thoughts, as always welcome :)

Hi All,

I rode in today (first time back on the bike).

I reckon I could be up for this if the weather stays good.
I'm in Melksham, but I don't know this area at all, so if we could meet maybe near where the A420 joins the A350. The little chef is a roundabout or two north of there isn't it? Else somewhere else dead obvious on the A350.
I don't have access to the internet after lunch time, so text me if plans are being made later than 2:00pm.

Beenz
01-08-06, 12:01 PM
Yup, we could meet at the 350/420 roundabout, theres a little industrial estate just off that same roundabout. I'll wait at the entrance. What time could you be there mac99, I'll try and get there about 5:30.

Cuffy, Squirrel is this OK?

mac99
01-08-06, 12:13 PM
I can be there by 5:30.

To confirm, at that roundabout the 5 exits are :
A420 to Bristol
Main Road to the M4
Road into Chippenham
Little road to Industrial Estate <-- <-- <--
A350 to Melksham etc

Though like I said, not if its raining. I don't have any waterproof technology with me.

Is this just off the M4 Chippenham junction (head towards chippenham)?

I also am waterproofless, so lets hope!

A good night out. No rain on the way there or home. The roads were A350 on the way and the A338 on the way hom. Lots of 30 and 40 zones. not sure which is quicker really. Time taken was about 1 1/2 hours from Nam each way.

Really good to meet up with Fizz and Liz again too.

I have next week off so I might make an afternoon run on Tuesday, would make easyier for anyone else who may be travelling further.

Just got back.

Quite a long day in the end. It was 60 miles from the BP Garage in Melksham to Poole Quay, 10 miles from there to where we filled up on the way back, and 100 miles from there back to my house

Hands are still tingling mind, but hopefully that'll have fixed itself by morning.

Beenz's can is louder than yours!

Hey Beenz what can did you get after?

Ended up with a CCC, got that baffle somewhere (under the seat) It nearly sounds the same as the one that cuffy has, but with a subtle difference. Sounds the same as yours I guess. I've not done anything with the injection yet to tidy up the fueling (which seems fine to me). It's slightly softer power delivery low down but better upper mid range.

I'm on holiday next week so might go to Poole again starting much earlier say 2 -3:00 if you want to join thats fine. It is a tiresome ride with lots of extended 30 and 40 limits. Would be a late one for you to get back as well.

Beenz I've replied in the exhaust thread you posted to rather than hijack this one.

As for Poole next week I'll probably decide much nearer the day, don't like the sound of all those 30's and 40's and the fact that abergavenny and brecon etc are so close makes the decision to go all that way even harder.
