View Full Version : Just had a very small scare today
I've only had the bike for a year, 4000 miles on D220's and I ride like a old granny most of the time
Anyway, I was riding back from work (i'm a part time temp), roads dried out in town. Turning right around a roundabout quickly. Was about to straighten up for the exit when umm... best description I can think is a twitch or the feeling of falling.
Close the throttle a bit and the bike stood up. Come to think about it, it was nothing really. I'm such a big girl's blouse
Glad you kept it upright, we all have scares! I've had a few!!
Can I ask what a 'part time temp' is!!
Temporarily doing part time work?

Ive got news for you fella theres gonna be a lot more and worser to come! (Hopefully not that bad tho!)
D220s? There the stock ones arn't they? At 4000 you should be looking for some replacements I think.

It sounds like you touched a slightly slippery patch and one or the other tyres moved.
I'd suggest that maintaining a constant throttle and standing the bike up yourself would be a better idea for next time it happens. If you shut the throttle you'll probably be loading the front tyre even more and if that's the one already sliding then it'll just keep going.
Standing the bike up exerts some force on the front contact patch as well, but it's better than staying leant over and just letting the bike fall over.
At 4000 the tyres shouldn't be dead, though they were never great tyres in the first place and could do with being thrashed a bit to get up to temperature, which is often a bad idea in the wet.
Mine only made it to 4k because of a bad puncture, though.
Well done, you managed to steer clear of the 'grab a handful of brake' first time off. :)
This time of year can be worse than autumn. At least then you can see the slippery wet leaves on the road!
The main problem with these late spring rain squalls is they aren't enough to clear the roads of their accumilation of gunk. They are just enough to mix it up and spread the worse oily bits around the surface, then they dry out and leave you none the wiser.
Good advice to change the stock tyres if you can.
Thinking back on it, it was the back tyre sliding out, must have got to the chicken strip??. My tyres don't look that worn or squared off. I hate having my sub-concious bailing me out cos I have no idea what I've done.

 Have done that 3 times, on my 125, sharp gravel corner. Riding school's ER5, emergency stop, wet road just before my test. this SV, expected a non indicating car to go straight on a roundabout instead of turning right, into my path.

Mine were finished on about 3700, but then that seems about normally for tyres for me, i'm only getting 4000 out of 020 rears.

ha ha, been there, exactly that thing as well.
Car pulls accross lanes, too much brake while leaning the other way to avoid, bye bye front end. Slippy slidey scratchy owwwwwey...

brings back some memories except mine was a bus!
The roads are mega greasy when wet at the moment - I had the back end spin up and a wee tank slapper on the way home last night, and span it up again on the slip road onto the M27 this morning
The Z6s I have got are very good, however it proves that sometimes even they cannot cope with 100+bhp :D

Never done a burn out in my life, it's very difficult to do one when you feet don't touch the floor.
