Could any of you SV boffins out there tell me:

When removing the engine from a K4 650 there are slotted knurled type nuts on 2 of the left side engine mounting bolts which presumably locate the motor correctly. Do I need to turn these to remove the motor and if so, do I need a special tool to do this?

There is a similar thing on the right side on the swingarm mounting bolt. Do I need to turn this to remove the swingarm?

yes you do, the outside ring needs to be backed off in order to undo the the inner bit, you need either a castled socket (special tool) or make one, or carefully use a drift and hammer (if you know what you're doing.

If you don't release these, you may get the bolt out, however getting the engine in again will be a nightmare.

As Mark said...

But you can make a castle nut adaptor out of an old socket with a dremmel if you so wish. It might make things a bit easier putting it all back togeather....

Halfords have a peg spanner for, I think, £3.99 which very nearly fits- it'll need the pegs thinned down with a grinder or dremel is all. Hidden away in the cycle tools and spares section... It doesn't have a 1/2 drive, so you either need to work it with a wrench or with a truly monstrous socket. Easier than grinding down a socket I suspect, for the lazy.

Would it be the right size to use on steering stem castle nuts as well?

Don't think so... It's quite bulky on the inside, I think the stem would be an issue.
