View Full Version : How much Pain????

Apart from those unfortunate enough to fall from their bike, just how much much pain can you take? Or more to the point whats the most painful thing you've experienced???
( Does not include child birth or marriage )
I can think of 2 instances:
1. On a Paintball game I rushed to the enemies fort to capture the flag and all that.
As I jumped across a fallen tree I stood across a small trench. Legs wide open there just happened to be 3 mates crouched in the trench. My mate following just saw three barrels pop out and unload straight into my crown jewels.
The next 10 minutes involved me screaming like a little girl and being sick. Apparently the whole game was cancelled due to my agony.
It took me a week to recover to full potential and I walked like John Wayne for another.
2. Falling on an electric fence during a drunken Summers night party.
It was the one that sends a pulse through it every other second so everytime I tried to get up it sent my muscles into complete spasm, thus falling back into the fence again.   :( :(

When I ruptured my anterior cruciate that hurt but not as much as after the op.
Also when I had a blow out fracture to my lower orbital meaning I had to have a plastic plate put in my face the eye sunk right down then after the plate was put in it shot back up again.
And collapsed lungs aren't too much fun.
But the most pain I've ever felt was paying for my wedding last year !!!

don't start me off on that subject:shock:
4 broken ribs playing rugby  got smashed by some prop...couldnt fart, breathe, sneeze or $h1t for weeks.
Double hernia op...not keyhole surgery either  couldnt fart, breathe, sneeze or $h1t for weeks.
Sorry... can't say I have experienced "pain" seeing as Childbirth doesn't count.
That was mildly uncomfortable but then I did have pain relief so I guess it wasn't soooooo bad
No breaks, falls, scalds, painball incidents (Ouch! that made me cringe!), fights, scrapes, falling out of trees or body malfunctions... to date.
Sorry
In growing toenail remove while in Korea. It would seem they don't like to numb things out there. Almost passed out cos of the pain. Never ever again I tell ya :crutches:

Hmmm such fond memories!
Shattered cheekbone,(eye socket does not fully align now!) in 5th minute of a rugby league game. After a sponge down on touchline for a couple of minutes back on to complete match. Which as my head began to swell like a potato was not too wise! Due to baby sitting duites I was only able to go to casualty at 11.30 p.m. the opthomogist( eye doc!) could not believe that my ( 8 ball right eye had been in that state for about 8 hours!
A opponent who later became a team mate told me that later in that game I hit him with the hardest tackle he ever felt!
Torn knee cruciates...ooh that did hurt!
Pulled hamstring in pre season training when at full belt! Felt like a hot knife had been pushed in to the back of my thigh, immedaite collapse to the ground, that stung a tadge!
Sore shoulder half way through another match, true damage only discovered later! Ruptured left bicep which also had a massive dent in it! Was black and swollen next day from neck to elbow! I had caught a guy's knee with my arm when he was heading straight for me when I tackled him.
Bruised kidneys from some twot dropping on me with his knees as I had fallen to recover a loose ball.
Dislocated finger? Pulled back in place and off you go again son!
Nose smashed 3 times, not the worst pain but you just try and stop your eyes watering and the plasma running!
Apart from the above I have had numerous knocks and bangs but on the whole I have been rather lucky I think. :P
My son grab's my nipple hair and pulls it out, sometime I flinch if caught off guard. But normaly I don't.
But if I stub my toe I'll get on my knees and eat carpet.
Oh and when I was a young man and had a swab done in a private area, I didn't make a sound. Even though they make it bleed, and they did it twice.

I've got a pretty high tolerance of pain... luckily for me :) Probably the most painful thing I've ever experienced was when I partially dislocated my foot then stepped on it, that worked out about as well as you'd imagine.
But when I fractured my hip, I got assessed wrongly by the triage team because I awsn't complaining enough for it to be a break... I couldn't walk, but I could stand, get up and down, and I hadn't had any painkillers. They were quite shocked when 8 hours later, it turned out to be broken! Got a lift to the hospital instead of an ambulance too, it just seemed teh right thing to do
Funnily enough, I'm bad with discomfort... It erally gets under my skin. Something trivial like a bad graze or an itch is worse than a broken bone or the damaged ligaments were. Not in terms of debilitation, obviously, just in how badly it bothers me.

Gallstones are painful. Not much good can be said about them. I had 9 the size of smallish marbles - apparently the norm is a few the size of a small pea. I think I've still got them in a pot somewhere if anyone wants to see them. I may put them on eBay at some point, tho I thought I'd hold off until I was mega-famous as that would maximise the amount I'd get for them.
I dropped something on my toe once. Hurt for a few mins, and then settled down a bit, so all good. Unfortunately, it was still bleeding under the nail. As it bled more underneath the nail, it was trying to rip the toenail off. After bathing it in both very hot and very cold water to see if that would help, I drove down to casualty, where I had my toenail drilled...
And I've got (I think) an ingrowing hair on my wrist which hurts like something which really hurts. If someone grabs me by the wrist, even when they let go, it hurts just as much for a few minutes afterwards.
I've tried to make a docs appt to get it cut out, but they always seem too busy to be able to make an appointment.

I had a cyst removed in February should've been a half day job ended up being in over night and didn't stop bleeding for five days and could sit up properly for a week the pain was indescribable (sp)
Pain... I have friends who take care of that for me.
They're called Mr Tramadol-Hydrochloride and Mr Diclofenac-Sodium and very nice they are too.

Kidney stones. 'Nuff said.
I think that I had one in March. It started the day before I went on holiday. It was very difficult to concentrate on the work I had to finish before I went because of the pain. Eventually the pain eased enough for me to be able to ride home. I couldn't get a doctors appointment that evening and was flying off to New Zealand the next morning. Fortunately I was OK for the flight, but the pain came back much worse a couple of nights later. Spent the night doubled up in agony and drinking as much water as I could to try to flush it. Mrs Wyrdness was worried in case she had to try to get me to a hospital - not being able to drive, nor knowing where one was or even how to call an ambulance in NZ! The pain went eventually and hasn't come back since. I'm still not 100% sure that it was a kidney stone but I seem to have had all of the symptoms.

Kidney stones. 'Nuff said.
i ended up in hospital a couple of times because of it (a couple of time cos i disscharged myself after i felt ok)
and ended up with an operation to remove them, where they "went in" to retirve them with a grippy thing.
NOT NICE
Pain... I have friends who take care of that for me.
They're called Mr Tramadol-Hydrochloride and Mr Diclofenac-Sodium and very nice they are too.
When i fractured my back they offered that to me but i declined and took only paracetamol and diclofenac. Diclofenac (NSAID) tastes funny, its like having a fizzy refresher. Tramadol i had available but decided that i was not in pain then stopped taking the paracetamol about 2 days after the accident but only because the nurses did not allow me to stop earlier.
I actually expected my back to hurt far more when the accident happened, that way i could complain more.
What did hurt was the Heparin injections, i dont like needles and so when they went to put it in my stomach i tensed up and the needle would not go in easily. In the end i started to ask them to put it in the side as it did not get affected by my stomach muscles. Darn the stuff stings.

I'd say the worst was recovering from an operation on my chest. They went in through the side, between ribs.
I had a chest drain for 4 days and was on morphine all of that time. The few times I was vaguely conscious I was easily in enough pain to bring me to tears.
When I got home I only got given Volterol. I suspect this drug is fairly good, but it simply couldn't cut it and I couldn't sleep for about a week.
Oh, and the morphine going into my thigh wasn't fun either, it burns.
edit: oh, and nipple piercings sting a bit. it's bad enough when they're done but the absolute worst bit is some git whacks them with a stick or something (don't ask)

Dislocated Femur: U15's, scored a try, landed on by 14 stone prop, Leg popped out of place. tryed standing up and fell over....popped it back in . that stung
Ruptured Kidney: 15th Minute of game played on my 19th birthday, Scored but was caught by a stray boot. Got up thinking i was only winded and carried on to score another later in the game 8)
Broken hand: 15 seconds into SWY cup Semi, Caught ball from kick-off and was caugth by the oponents 9, stood on my hand and i got penalised for punching out ( ball in 1 hand, other under his foot  Must have used my 3rd hand  ) Carried on knowing full well it was broken and we won to put us into final.

After getting severe gravel rash after jumping of my SV at 110mph wearing Jeans. Taken to hospital, x-rayed, then released - still with gravel in legs. It was so deep in the knees you could see bone. And on my left calf it was big and deep and oh so fleshy. *Yummy* got a great photo somewhere.
That was little painful, but thankfully natural adrenaline took most pain away.
What REALLY hurt was the next day... sat in the bath... with a sterile scrubbing brush...

Now THAT Fecking hurt. I sat there for 30 mins, drank 1/4 bottle of whiskey (and i HATE whiskey), giving myself a prep talk.... then when i did put scrub to flesh...

Reason for self cleaning my wounds - NHS didnt have the resources.

I trod on a rake once as well.
If that's the first time you've heard that, I'll be amazed.
I trod on a nail once that went straight through my foot and out the otherside but that was nothing in comparison to a trapped nerve in my neck that left me unable to move, even a deep breath sent a shooting pain into my head that nearly caused me to pass out.
After the drugs I was prescribed I lost three days of my life, couldn't remember a thing!
Cause of trapped nerve? I yawned, be warned!

Oh man I feel for ya.
I had sciatica from hell after my off. I vividly remember waking up one Tuesday morning in August 2004 with pain trawled from hell, it felt like someone was ramming a red hot poker up my ****. It was unspeakable agony. The physio told me that the pelvic and lumbar region had had a helluva whack and they were all settling down and that minute movement in my lower spine was pressing on the sciatic nerve, causing this hideous shooting pain.
K's friends - tramadol and diwotsitsname - didn't touch it and voltarol was like taking smarties. The only real relief was doggie position, crouched on all fours, as it stretched my spine. But you can't sleep like that. I used to think that sciatica was an old person's problem and I had no idea of the awful pain.
In the end the physio got rid of most of it by giving me stretching exercises, and I had acupuncture to get rid of the rest. It worked.
I never ever want sciatica again.

K's friends - tramadol and diwotsitsname - didn't touch it and voltarol was like taking smarties.
Heh heh, in that case you did then - Volertol is a 'brand name' for Mr Diclofenac-Sodium.
I like my friends, whilst I'm firmly of the belief in taking as few painkillers as possible (if you can ride through it it will go away eventually) they stop me from being a little ball of wimpering insanity. Cos when I say 'ride it out and it will go away eventually' - when the 'eventually' has yet to arrive after 10 months (and counting) it gets a little too much on a day to day basis.
One off pain I can handle - every time I put too much wieght on my knee, or it gives way again it's like someone has just ripped the left side of my skull out of my body - simply by pulling every bone between it and my knee out through my left foot!
Then they slowly shove them back in one by one and when their done it goes away. That's Ok. I can deal with that. You get a kind of detatchment, curious fasination and attnetion to detail of each sensation. Well, I do anyway.
It's the constant grate of bone on bone. The never ending awareness that no matter what you do, how you move, rest, twist or bend, it's there. Thumping away as regularly as your heartbeat, totally in tune with the blood pumping through tat part of your body. Knowing that the only way it's going to stop is if you heart stops with it.
It's kind of like living in a flat with chavs living downstairs with their stereo always turned up too loudly so all you get is the constant thump of the bass through the floor.
Or the continual white noise they play while you are locked in a tiny room being tortured by some special forces guy.
My friends don't make it go away - but they free up enough of my mind that I can concetrate on other things - like breathing and generally getting on with my life.
Hmmm trying to think...
I fell about 15ft out of a tree and landed on a metal pole fence, one of the poles went through my leg (about 3inch from my manhood). Didnt really hurt since i was in shock and just felt warm untill about 10min later when someone came and lifted me off it... now that hurt! Taken to hospital and had stiches in both sides of my thigh - doctors said i was stupidly lucky that it missed everything important.
Oh and as for pain... think of this poor guy Clicky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NorynV-NVQ)

I wouldn't recomend the tongue, doubt it will hurt as much as the nipple when you get it done. But you will regret it when you start cracking your teeth with it
Tongue bars are fine but if you find you starting playing with it, then plastic balls or even a bar are a good idea. The bonus is that the plastic ones often glow in UV.
edit: oh, and it doesn't hurt at all.
I've got my tongue done (had it done twice) - doesnt really hurt to get done, just feels like pressure as the needle goes through. It aches after down the back of your throat for awhile since everything is swollen but that soon goes, I lived on slush puppys and supersize cups of ice from mcdonalds (since its flat and easy to suck on :))
Its been about 4 years now. Swollowed 2 of the balls so far and i think thats pretty good going :P

I've only had mine for 2 years but managed to avoid swallowing any balls. I keep losing them, though.

Photos of my op to fix my underbite 3 years ago. Had my upper and lower jaw surgically broken, moved and bolted up. Tubes to drain the excess blood out of my cheeks. Was on this painkiller which I could administer myself every 5 mins.
I couldn't open my mouth for weeks, My mates tried to make me laugh which popped a couple of stitches in my mouth. Given some extra strength mouthwash which stung. Ate Ben and Jerrys, Hagen Daz and anything that fits through a straw. Dropped a stone to under 8 stone. Bottom right of my mouth is still numb.
But I have a great smile now :D If I wasn't such a miserable b**tard

When I was 15, I ran out in front of a car. It was in Manor Royal, Crawley opposite the karting place on the way to P&H. Fortunately, I happened to run out in front of the 1 guy who was actually doing the speed limit, otherwise it would have be much more serious. Went up onto the bonnet and then a combination of my face, wrist and shoulder smashed the windscreen and I fell off the side.
Despite the broken wrist, smashed up shoulder and multiple cuts and bruises, the most painful bit was when I got to the hospital, they had to scrub all the cuts on my face with a stiff bristelled nylon brush to get the chards of glass out  This was when I threw up. Had been eating battenburg cake earlier! Strange how you remember these little details...
I once got a very nasty paper cut opening an envelope. :o

Actually, now you mention it, I have a little silver bag full of balls on the shelf in front of me.
Worst pain for me was:
1) I had double pneumonia a couple of years back and the pain is absolutely unbeleivable.
2) playing footy and bending my knee the wrong way against the joint and snapping 3 of my ligaments.
Pneumonia was the worst as it lasts a while and you cant really take strong pain killers as they can suppress your breathing. So you have to grin and bare it

Ooh i have two.
1. getting kicked in the balls with a footy from about 5 feet away kicked from the hands. I laughed for a split second then dropped like a stone couldn't get up for 2 hours and.. "lost" one of them for a bit
2. I did a Cisse but worse playing football slid to block a shot but didn't see the keeper so the stiker and keeper clashed with my leg in the middle. Safe to say it snapped in half and the bone popped out. 50 odd staples, three screws, one 12 inch and 2 operations later its a bit better. I didn't know much about it at the time though so the first one was probably worse  I have a during video and after photo's lying around somewhere.
Paper cut below gets my vote there horrific..really although losing your balls and kidney stones don't sound too comfertable either.
