Having passed my test in February, I'm finally biting the bullet and buying myself a bike! I've taken a couple of hours off this afternoon and I'm off to get a new SV650S! (Bang goes upgrading the car, but - you only live once!)
I just wanted to stick my nose into the forum and say "Hi". It is a nightmare reading this while I'm supposed to be working though, as some of the threads are just too funny! My colleagues want to know why my job is so interesting all of a sudden!!!
:D

Hi and thanks!
I live in Leicestershire and work in electronics - it's OK, but I know that we all live for the weekends, really!
Grew up with a vintage racing nut of a father and a brother who has skated round a few tracks on his bum - so it was always inevitable that I would get a bike.
The forum is great! I came on here orignally looking at bikes for sale - but the thread about "most pain" had me in stitches! Not literally!!!

Well, I did it! The guys at the dealership are dropping off my bright shiny red SV tonight! There is going to be no living with me now!!!
I haven't had any of the add on's put on at the moment, but I plan to have the crash bungs put on at the first service and maybe the fairing lowers next year - we'll see!
Now all I have to do is sort out insurance.
I'll post a separate thread and ask for recommendations. Any advice greatly appreciated!!!

Crash Bungs are a good idea, although I haven't got any yet.
If your looking to fit lower fairings, the crash bungs are different to the ones that just connect to the frame/ engine.

Their fairly cheap but the fitting kit is a bit steep.

HTH :D

If you are getting crash bungs, don't get the official Suzuki ones as I've been told by another member they're rubbish (£1200 damage from a slow speed drop  ). I use R & G myself, locked the front at 8-12mph and dropped it hard onto the floor. bent the bung, only damage was gear lever and a indicator on the bike.

Thanks for the advice. I had heard that the R&G bungs were better from an insurance point of view as well.
If you'll forgive a really stoopid question... do you have to have them fitted - or is it a case that you can buy them and fit them yourself. I know that they have to go through the engine on a bike without the fairing lowers, but it is rocket science.
I'm not unfamiliar with a set of spanners, having done the head gasket on my last car, but will they only be approved by an insurance company if fitted by an approved fitter?
Thanks for all the words of wisdom - I just want to get home and have it delivered now!!! :D :D :D

Yours is fully faired isn't it?

Do R&G do bungs for the Pointy faired model????

If so how much?

Nope, just a belly pan.My bike is here

Fairings might need cutting to fit. Best post a thread for fully faired advice.

Rosie, I fitted them myself with the help of a mate, only to be told by the mechanic at my first service that the bolts were not torqued tight enough.

Welcome!!
This site is really awesome and I've been here since the begining, well almost.
My bike started off as a '99 naked curvy and ended up as this...

..all with the help of these guys; most SV parts brought from here as well!

Insurance sorted! Tried EBike, Bennetts, Motorcycle Direct and MCE and Carole Nash managed to beat them. Granted - initially Carole Nash were over £100 out, but it's amazing what they can do when you tell them what you've already been quoted.
I daresay that I could have got a better price if I had carried on hunting round, but you have to draw a line somewhere.
£312 for brand new SV650S, rider only qualified 3 months, fully comp - I didn't think that was too bad!

Gee, that's a lot cheaper than me with Carole Nash and I've had the bike for a year. Must remember to shop round next time.

 Roadsure and choice quote are the 2 cheapest I've found, (new sv, just passed das, fully comp) £250, both with equity red star. Dont use the web sites though, call them, operators seem to have unlimited discresion. :)

Can I be forgiven for the fact that I spent an hour sitting outside just looking at my new bike? I know that it was getting dark - but there is something truly amazing about watching the sun go down over an SV650S!
The irony of it is that a couple of weeks ago, I was taking the ... proverbial... out of my brother who had spent 20 years, on and off, building a 1934 Scott TT replica - and spent half an hour sitting in the shed, gazing lovingly at it!
I know how he feels now - I love it - and I didn't even have to spend 20 years building it!!!
