I am interested in purchasing new fork springs for my 2000 SV650S, along with front preload caps. What is the best price you can do for me, including postage to Birmingham?
Many Thanks,

This seems a little expensive. I understand that you used to supply springs, spacers, shims and preload caps for £124.20. I know that you sell Ohlins springs for £70, what else comes with the kit?
Thanks.

Time goes on and price increases take place.

I understand that prices can increase, but they don't seem to be bothered at all to explain to me what I'm getting for my money. Maybe I should not bother with them at all. They are selling Ohlins progressive springs for £70, all I want to know is what the extra £27 is for. Tossers.

Just ignore them then. Your email looks reasonable, and I hate rude people, so take your business elsewhere?

Take your business elsewhere,
Cant belive a business would actually write that.
Try Steve Jordan M/C's Official Ohlins supplier, top suspension guru recomended by many of the Bemsee racers.

Ages back, I was looking to buy their Stage 2 jet kit- it's a great product IMO, but at the time he wouldn't sell the filter seperately. I'd basically said that I'd take one, if he could guarantee filter availability in the future in the event the standard one got damaged (thinking of contamination, foreign object damage, maybe accidental damage. His response was "IF YOU ARE THAT HAMFISTED I DO NOT RECOMMEND FITMENT OF THE KIT". That's really professional.

If you SPEAK to JHS you'll find that they are more responsive. It's a small business and he probably doesn't have time to "chat" on email. I'm not sticking up for him, but I had a similar experience and found they were much better when you actually spoke to them.
How damn rude!
Wont be using them for anything ever!!!!!
I'd email them back telling them to check the .Org out and read this thread!

He does read the .org. Also Visordown and probably SV Rider. I know this because he sent me an unpleasant PM on here once after I dared to criticise him on Visordown
Well clearly he is too rich if he blatantly makes people take their custom elsewhere!

PMSL. I have to ask and why ?.... You think he is going to loose sleep over an email  .
In as much as I have had experience of James having an 'off' day/his unique sense of humour(as do eveyone) :) I agree totally with Jelster.
Personally I sometimes fail to understand this email malarky. I would have rang myself in the first place.
All told JHS is probably know there way around the SVs' better than anyone else.

When you're dealing with technical matters, or you're weighing up various options, email is a fantastic aid, especially when you're not too well informed.- you get it all written down, and you can check the details at your leisure, instead of madly scribbling down notes. It also gives you a paper trail- so when, for example, you get told that fitting a 700cc kit doesn't impact your warranty, as happened to me, it's good to have that in writing.
Basically, if you don't want to do business by email, don't, it's not a hard concept.
But as far as expertise, I'd not contradict that at all, in the UK at least.

Fully understand your point ...BUT...not all of us have time during working hours to make telephone calls let alone send an e-mail. It therefore necessitates an e-mail after-hours.
Give k-tech a call.... they do alot of fork work on the superbike guys there number is

You both(Northy,Jdubya) make very good points but still think a lot of people over use it.
Another example is someone selling , say a seat
'Seat for a curvy SV. No rips etc. Infact as new'
You still get peeps asking for a picture via email etc . For Christ sake they all look the same

Just saying not good business sense to treat customers in that way,I've heard of the company, not used them yet,(don't know if I ever will),but it's allways good to hear from other peoples experiences of these companies.
Don't think anyone has doubted (yet!?) the guy's expertise, just the way he has replied to someone who wants to buy something from him!
Has not done himself any favours IMO.
The point of having a business is to provide a service to people,in return for that service, you make money.
By this sort of action,he may have just lost a potential customer, who if he/she were satisfied by the service, would undoubtedly use his company again, and spread the word about it/him,which then expands his money making potential.
In this instance he has not achieved this.
Sad really, because it's always good to know of good places for advice and goodies, but get treated well too.

I'm guessing he's probably busy enough to not care, tbh. This is far from unique in biking, mind, how many busy dealers do we know that are just awful? Why be better when you can be awful and work to capacity?

I don't see a lot wrong with that response really. He has a price for his goods and is not willing to enter into a discussion about it.The answer was not rude or abusive, just short and to the point.Take it or leave it.I take it you will leave it.

I think more the point was that he didn't attempt to answer any of the questions that were posed about the kit.

Yup, you see it all the time, big infinity dealer down the road, I needed a new tyre and I said could you fit if I removed the wheel myself and they said I would have to wait 2 WEEKS! went to the place down the road, the local dealer who actually cares, they said it would take 20mins to change, drop it round whenever your ready.
Nuff said imo
In terms of the fork upgrade, I ordered my ohlins springs from harris, and the preload caps and spacers off an official suzuki dealer and made the shims oh and oil from halfords. All instructions and help provided by the org ;)

That's how it appears to me, true it's not gushingly curteous, but it's not rude either, the information is there to be read and no superflous details.
Don't see a problem, honestly I don't.

Then why do they say find it cheaper, email us first? As for not having time to "chat" by email, he can reply when he has time. Phoning is at the callers convenience after all. No time to reply to a potential customer, but plenty to PM Northy for bad mouthing him.

The answer may have been short and to the point but it didn't answer my question. All I wanted to know was what comprised of the kit. I still don't know.
I think I'll try some of the other places mentioned here. Thanks all.

I had something like this in my local shop in brackley high street, i wanted a new tire for a crosser and the guy quoted the price which was high, he then added £5 to take the wheel off. I asked if i could borrow a spanner and stand to do it myself which i though was perfectly reasnoable considering the major tire fitters will let you do this, and he said no and i left.

Yup, I'm no JHS fan but I'd agree with this. This one email was brusque, maybe, but I certainly wouldn't call it rude. Maybe he could go further and make the sale, but that's his prerogative.
Fuzz, the kit comprises of K2 fork preload adjusters, spacers and blank washers... The adjusters for sure are OEM, the rest may be or perhaps he hs them made himself (the OEM price for the spacers, which are just simple metal pipes, are ridiculous, if you were selling more than a couple it'd be a simple matter to buy some appropriate pipe and cut it down).
Also, unsurprisingly, springs. They're not Ohlins progressive I believe, as Ohlins don't seem to make such- I suspect they're Progressive progressive, another good brand. Springs are springs, by and large, I challenge anyone to tell the difference between 2 brands with the same spec. I like linear, and most of the actual suspension builders- Ktech, Racetech, Traxxion, Sonic, to name a few would recommend linear for short-travel forks. But not everyone, and it's a matter of taste.
Still, I'd call that expensive for the springs. It's a completely fair price for the preload parts, more or less what you'd pay from a local dealers. (I paid about £4 more for mine from my dealers, but saved on postage)
The kit doesn't comprise of K2 adjusters, they are £44 extra. Springs are £70, shims and spacers for pre K2 models are £18. That's £88. What do I get in the spring kit for £97?

Ah, sorry, thought you were talking about the complete deal. The additional £9 gets you a vial of monkey spunk. Or possibly, some fork oil, and dependant on the springs possibly spacers- that's quite common with progressives. Possibly not.
If it was fork oil, I would understand, but they charge £12 a litre for that  I picked some up today for £6.70 at HG.

Call (or email) MC Technics http://www.mctechnics.co.uk/
They supply and fit for the same price as many supply only for and the owner is often featured as a suspension specialist in MCN and other motorcycle mags - he has done a lot of racing and supported BSB teams.

Why not phone James and speak to him - a perfectly reasonable chap who will be more than willing to help you out - I don't know but he may find email time cnsuming for a conversation that would have been so much quicker on the phone
