Didn't they introduce Batgirl into the 1960's TV series because studio execs were concerned that the Adam West/Burt Ward duo were a bit too um... suspect - older bloke living with younger man, lots of tight spandex etc She was supposed to intorduce an element of heterosexuality. Still if they can change the sex of Lt. Starbuck and Lt. Green they can do anything.
