View Full Version : What Do You Watch....
On TV?
Just wondered, because following a conversation at work today, I am, apparently, 'wierd'
Why?
Because I loathe soaps, and absolutely detest 'reality' tv.
In fact, I don't watch much telly at all. Football, bike racing, The Simpsons  , the occasional film, and I do love a well made drama series, but most of the time I will be browsing the net and/or reading.
So how much tv do you watch? What programmes do you really love, and what makes you dive for the remote to change the channel?
Never watch "soaps".
However, I do like C5 on Thursday evenings....... House, then Grey's Anatomy followed by Suburban Shootout :smt066
I used to watch a lot of tv, anything and everything. Nowadays, i dont watch that much in comparrison. Like you Lissa, i loathe reality tv, 90% of sport - Will watch tennis, snooker motorsports if its on, watch the occasional soap, again, if i happen to be in fornt of the TV eating!, other than that, top gear, 5th gear, CSI occasionaly and thats it. I do like property programmes, Location and grand designs are my favs, and that one with Sarah Beenie.

In no Particular Order:
24
Prison Break
South Park
Family Guy
American Dad
Simpsons
2&1/2 Men
Lost
Alias
CSI
Nip/Tuck
House
I have to admit I watch a soap.... Eastenders being it!
I do also watch ER on E4, Holby & Casualty. Simpsons is Classic! :D
I also like watching crime series... Spooks, Waking the Dead, Silent Witness anything like that.
I too can't stand reality programmes... Big Brother is just ridiculous!
Celebrity anything is a NO NO! Although they might be good if they actually got some Celebrities!
Apart from that not much.
I wouldn't say you were weird Lissa, you like what you like. Nothing wrong with that.

Lost is pretty much the only thing I'm following live... I watch a few series but on DVD- the West Wing at the moment, 6 Feet Under too, and I reckon I'll pick up the first series of House when I'm done with those. I'm not much good at following a whole series on TV, so it's easier to just get the boxes. I like 24, but I don't want to get drawn into 4 massive series of it.
My mum and dad think I spend too much time on the internet, they'd far rather I watched more TV like a normal person.

Aww hun, you're not wierd,
I hate soaps, reality tv (big brother and all that ****), Like dramas like CSI and House, Love the simpsons and futurama. Sport is a must see on T.V especially Rugby and the bikes. Football i can take it or leave it depending who's playing. Oh and Top Gear, have to watch Top Gear its like the Law or something!!!
The main things that would make me rush for the remote are probably any type of chavvy chat show, and Jade Goody or however you spell that overpaid chav's name ;)
Sammy
Sport of all kinds except golf
CSI Viney, good man ;)
Dont watch much but stuff like Top gear is a must and films generally

I watch very little TV these days. It's a bit of an extravagance paying the license fee for what I watch, they have dumbed it down so much.
Sad truth is the more choice there is the worse the quality gets.Does this apparent contradiction apply to other areas of our lives I wonder?
I don't watch too much TV, but my favourite programme right now is Curb Your Enthusiasm which I watch religiously.

I try to watch things that will amaze and educate me. Life of Mammals and Life of Birds series have been on recently on UK History & UK Documentary. Inside 9/11 was also ok if a bit of a rehash of lots of old stuff.
Some american sitcoms, like King of Queens, Everbody Hates Chris, Simpsons, South PArk.
I just dont like anything too formulaic or obvious on telly.
Oh, QI too, thats good.
Watched 1st series of Lost cos g/f was watching and it looked interesting enough. Now refuse to watch anymore. I cant stand how each episode seems to answer new questions that i hadnt even thought of yet also brings up loads of new questions in the process. And on. ANd on. So i refuse to care about it at all. Guys at work talhk about it and i'll switch off and hum some Marley to myelf instead. 8)

Cracks me up.
I like these:
24
Spooks
Waking the Dead
Messiah
Wire in the Blood
Lost
Invasion
WSB
BSB
WTCC
Top-Gear
Scrap-Heap Challenge
News
Documentarys (such as Dispatches,Panorama etc)
Simpsons
Have I got News for You
Sometimes Eastenders (Sad I know!)
Current regulars are:
24
Prison Break
Lost
Sleeper Cell
Battlestar Galactica (just finished)
CSI
Cold Case (occasionally)
Bones
Rescue Me (just finished)
Other than that I'll skip through to find documentaries about pretty much anything that sparks my interest, history stuff, war stuff, crime stuff, nature stuff, stuff stuff!
Otherwise it's movies for me big time, but I have to be in the mood for what's on. I very rarely have the TV just on and veg infront of it. I prefer to veg out with a good book or something.
I usually go to the cinema every week so most of the stuff on mainstream prime time is a repeat for me, I'll still have it on in the background though. If I'm doing some leatherwork or painting then I like to have something on as ambient noise so to speak and I have a very limited music collection and the radion tends to drive me up the wall.
I actually prefer to 'listen' to movies than music most of the time if I'm working. Some I know so well that I know exactly when to look up for the best bits - Dog Soldiers I know off by heart, same as Blackhawk Down, Hellboy and Sin City.
I tend to rather buy a DVD than a music albom. Don't get me wrong, I love music and would love to own more of it - the problem is I have the worse memory for band names or song titles so never know what it is I actually like unless I hear it.  Where as films I always remember and so know what I'm buying. :?

Im afraid that until I get back on my bike Im bored ****eless and watch all the Soaps, all the reality shows - yes and Big Brother  - all the detective/courtroom/whodunnits, anything to pass the time quicker
Once I get back on my bike you wont see my **** for dust 8)
Well I did watch 24 until it went over to SKY. Now get it videoed and watch a whole series in 3 days. By the end of the first tape I'm wishing for Jacks' death so I can go and eat. :)
Lost has taken over this role. I've just missed the last two episodes (nobody say a word!, I'll figure it out)
The rest is stuff like...
Scrapheap Challenge, Top Gear, bike racing and WRC.
F1 and BTCC I can take or leave. Their glory days are over and it's just not interesting me anymore.
I see Film Four is coming to freeview in July - so that's something to replace Men&Motors which disappeared a while back.

The good thing is, I know all of Nazi Germanys secret plans and where they hide all their stuff.
handy information to know should they try and invade!! *taps nose with finger*

The funniest thing I have ever seen in my life. Takes a few episodes to get into, but it has me in stitches. I think it's the characterisations that are so good. The way shake always downplays his mistakes, the way frylock always trys to be a compassionate liberal father figure, Carl's tough new yorker voice and dialect.
Absolutely superb. Sealab 2021 is good too.

I'll add my approval for Aqua Teen Hunger Force - absolute class. If you can find the episode about the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, it's sheer & unadulterated genius!!
Northy - you really should delve into 24 a bit further - it's been the best thing on TV for ages, i've been hooked since series 1.
Anyone else watch QI with Stephen Fry on BBC (repeated on UKTV Gold)? Little gem of a show, plus you find out loads of quite interesting stuff that wouldn't go amiss in the 'interesting fact of the day' thread.

ha ha, the one when Carl is visited by the Cybernetic Ghost Of Christmas Past From The Future and learns that his house is built on an elfin graveyard causing his pool to fill with blood, so he tries to sell his house, and F$%CKING DANZIG buys it, and your man from Danzig keeps on dropping over to ask if they could turn up the blood a bit, until the elfin ghosts cant take it any more, and move in with the lads was a classic too.

I don't have tv. I do sometimes download stuff to watch though. "Life on Mars" was absolutely class TV - superb. Can't wait for series 2.
I've been watching "Private Schultz" tonight. Anyone remember that? It's a comedy-drama very loosely based on a true WWII story, with Michael Elphick as a German petty crook who forges millions of British fivers - great stuff.
