hi there,
had my bike for 2 years,

1st year, with redline, i paid 650 quid for TPFT
2nd year with carol nash, i paid 400 quid.

my insurance is up for renewall next month, yet i get a letter through today, telling me that my renewall premium will cost me 550 quid. :?:

here's me thinking that having an extra years no claims, being a year older, and the bike being a year older would actually reduce my premium ? or am i missing something ?

i had an accident about 6 months ago, where i was nudged over at traffic lights and the bike dropped, the driver left the scene without leaving details, and the police were unable to trace her.
damage to bike was a few scratches that i polished out.
asked people's advice on here and was advised to let my insurance company know and that they shouldnt use it to jack up my premiums.

trouble is . . .id prefer to stay with carol nash, cos i quite enjoy their free breakdown cover and ride any bike free of charge extra's that you get with their policys.

so what i need to know is . . . how can i get them to charge me less money ?

The problem with that accident mate is that insurance companies deem that as your fault and goes against you regardless of wether or not you made a claim. That's why your premium has increased, they will use any opportunity to increase your premium. Only other thing is to look at oter insurer's. Try Bennetts, ebike etc.

Good luck.

Two things----Get several other quotes from all the usual suspects including Ebike. You should be able to get some good ones that undercut Carole Nash. Then go back to CN and ask them to explain your increase and offer to let them match your best quote.Don't tell porkies about the other quotes though as CN will know what the competition is doing and will call your bluff if you try it on.

Shop around

Devitt wanted £900 off me for the GSXR and the SV. Ebike wanted £555 same level of cover, Less excess, free breakdown cover.

hi mate

have you tried cia and motorcycle direct, tbh i have nevr found any one better,

as for the misshap at the lights, i woulndt class that as an accident, so i would still sleep at night if i forgot to tell them, howvere when they ask i usually say " i dont know if this counts but,,,, (make it sound really mnor)

i have a non faulter and a non claim theft both noted on my policy and it didnt budge my premium,

alternativly you could try calling them and saying.... what do you think you are playing at,

and tbh, breakdown is only worth £50 as nci do fully comp break down for that,

Try Premium Choice, thats who I've got my insurance with. MCE can also be quite cheap and they will match or undercut other offers too.

Tbh, you are going to have a hard time getting anything cheaper since you have an accident you've declared. It doesn't matter it wasn't your fault or that you didn't claim anything, its still going to push your premium up.

motorcycle direct £550.44 (inc legal protection, breakdown cover)

this is getting a little better ;)

if they made a payout then its a fault claim (no-one else to recover the cost from)

if they didnt pay anything. then it should be non fault. call them and ask what they have it recorded as.

try the insurance quote on www.autotrader.co.uk/BIKES. this i found to be quite cheap when i was looking at buying a Tl1000s. only 330 with one of them. havnt tried the sv yet, but with carol nash its 420 at the mo, i just prefer them because my dad has been with them for so many years with no quaralls. im coming up to my 2 years riding with my restriction so next year should be a bit cheaper!!

Warren, I was with Devitts and because of my claim for writing the SV off they have raised my premium by £200 I shopped about and the best was Norwich Union and I've been 100% honest but they have still offered me fully comp for less than £400 and reduced the excess back to £250
All I can say is keep shopping about, cos I must have tried every advert in TWO
before I settled for them
Best of luck Mac

they do there own insurance, but like most honda things. . . it aint cheap.
they just like to make out they are in the adverts (like nearly all insurance companys in the back of bike trader that "guarantee to beat your best quote" that dont come anywhere close.

Try H&R Insurance (http://www.insurance2000.co.uk/hanson/default.asp?referrer=), they always seem to be the cheapest for Londoners.

As for your accident affecting the premium, I don't think it has to be honest as I had a similar problem as you, and as long as you've got the no claims you'll be fine. What I think the problem is here is that Carol Nash have undercut everyone to give you your first years' cover, then at renewal time they haven't taken that into consideration and hence you get a premium that is higher than what you've paid for the year before, it's happened to quite a few people.

I suggest you keep phoning around and then get back to them with lower quotes you've found elsewhere, exaggerating the difference won't hurt either  , and see if they'll beat it. Good luck.

I just skim read this thread so apologies if i'm repeating...

If you find a cheaper quote, still go back to Carole Nash and see if they'll match it. When I was looking they were very helpful and very willing to match other companies quotes.

I also find ringing a company is much better than getting an online quote. Being able to talk to someone gives you the opportunity to haggle/negotiate a better deal which you can't do online.

emailed ebike insurance the following

hi there.
i have heard that your insurance company are really competative, and after speaking to a few reps at the BMF show. i decided to get a quote.
is this correct, all my details have been entered correctly. yet i am being quoted over two thousand pounds ( quote ref number 925580) ?
for my first year of insurance i paid 650, second year i paid 450 (via carol nash) so i am looking at paying less than that to be honest.

surely there is some mistake with your system.

Warren

they sent me the following

Dear Mr Miller,

I have looked at the quote and the system has quoted correctly. The quote is based on the bike being kept outside and not garaged, on bikes of group 14 and above this attracts a large loading due to theft problems we have encountered in the last year. Your post code will also have affected the price and your age.

We aim to be competitive but in your case this is unfortunately not the case. For that I apologise.

Kind regards

just called carol nash, they said that they wernt prepared to negotiate my premium as they have already added a discount on to my policy.

they said that the underwriters have bumped up their prices, hence they cant do any better.
but bike team are using the same underwriter for their quote.

Bike team seems a good quote.I'd go with that.

The Ebike thing is just them telling you they don't want your business. They all tend to specialise in certain classes of customer and if you don't fit in they fob you off with a silly quote.I use Hastings direct and they are very competitive but only because I fit their profile. They often refuse to quote at all if you don't.

Sorry no particular suggestion Warren. I shall DEFINITELY move away from Motorcycle Direct next time round. Poor service issues. Long story over NCB, suffice to say I wasn't happy.
