im not sure where he gone, but after that suicide thread didn`t he get banned?
im pretty new to this forum and admit i dont know everyone else as well you guys may but i feel its a shame that a guy can get kicked off the forum for having his own opinion,
i must state that i only ready the edited version of this suicide thread, but from my experience of GYKD he helped me on a few occasions where i asked certain questions.

Is that the one that says "No one is allwowed to NOT have a drink in their hand at any time?"
Perhaps you need to stand infront of a mirror at midnight and say his name three times.

He was ok, but there has been more than one occasion that he has made a point to far. He was and has been in the past in breach of the acceptable use policy of this board. There are rules, and if you break them, you get banned, simple. Having an opinion is fine, but blatenetly slagging people off is not on. :?

As a team of moderators we felt that this time things with Joe had just gone way to far. His last thread even he admited was posted without thinking of the consequences of his actions.
I know of two regular forum members who were very upset by the comments from Joe and others that were posted in that thread and decided that the forum was no longer a place that they wanted to spend time. I'm wandering who else also feels like they dont want to post here anymore.
Joe did apologise for his actions, however it was decided that action was required on our part. We discussed what options we had and sadly John and Greg felt it necessary to ban Joe permenantly. Bearing in mind that previously Joe has served temporary bans for unacceptable behaviour. This wasnt his first offense.
This is not an action we undertook lightly but both John, Greg and the rest of us as a team of moderators, felt that Joe's actions were bringing the forum into disrepute and we felt it necessary to protect the majority of users rather than sticking up for the minority.
Please remember Joe isnt able to take part in the forum anymore so he cant post in this thread to defend himself so can I ask that no more of the unplesant personal attacks of the type that were posted towards him and others in the "suicide thread" do not get posted in this thread.
I'm quite happy as I'm sure John, Greg or Bigape will be to discuss whats happened but I would prefer to do this via PM rather than on the open forum.
Thanks
Fizz

Bit sad IMO..... Ifs your site though....
I hope I don't get banned becuase I have an opinion that may differ from others... Oops, i'd best be carefull what I write in case someone who i don't know gets all upset.......

Daimo mate, you dont understand so why try to defend something that you really know little about. Sorry if thats harsh its not meant to be. Yes other forums maybe fiesty and like that, but over the years, this forum has been pretty much un policed, and its survived very well. People will have opinions, and thats fine, its just some really need to be kept to themselves. Joe knows what its about, and thats that.
Why get heated overthing something written on the internet?
I understand people can take things personnally, but who's fault is that? The poster, or the person reading it taking offence?
Actually, im on one, just the way i read this post I guess (again, what someone writes may be taken in another context by another person, this is why i HATE emails as you can say something and its totally mis-read by another, i have this issue with the missis a lot  )
Viney, no harshness in that matey, no probs. I've not meant to intentionally wind anyone up or create a row with my above comments, but i bet someone will read into it and may take offence. I did read a good few pages of that post though. I just never got into it.
Thats the thing with the internet and not taking things personnally.
I have had a U2U about things though, so i'll shut up now and drink my tea

I'm sure some people will be delighted. Probably the same people that liked to get stuck into all of his messages with pointless snide comments, just to wind him up- then complain when he responded. I wonder if any of the people who took such apparent pleasure in winding him up gave any thought to the damage they were doing to the forum?
Not saying he was blameless, far from it, but it takes 2 to tango. Usually more than 2. Sad to see it come to this.

Yes, but despite our right to freedom of speech and being entitled to any opinion we like, sometimes people need to exercise a little discretion in what they choose to post, that's all, especially when/if discussing rather sensitive topics.

Also, its no longer just a forum. Its a community where a lot of people know each other in person. You have to bear in mind these people will meet each other and have to face up to what they've written
Sad to see it come to this.
While that's true, I suggest that it was inevitable at some point. We simply chose now.

Again, this is true too. This forum is hardly anonymous like most internet forums, and it's developed into a pretty solid real-world community, so perhaps needs looking after more than most for the genuine well-being of it's users. Though we try very hard to let it police itself, some times the good of the majority must be held above that of the minority, even if that might seem politically incorrect to some.

Yeah, I can see the sense in that. If you've decided it's sooner or later, it should always be sooner- you get the consequence of the ban regardless, but you can avoid the ongoing bad blood.

Very true. The decision to ban GYKD wasn't taken lightly, however despite repeated requests that he moderate his behaviour nothing changed for any significant period. You may recall that the thread that lead to this whole unpleasant business was far from the first controversial - and often plain rude - one in which GYKD was involved. The moderators discussed this at some length - some names that you might be surprised to hear defended GYKD's right to express himself as he wished - but eventually there was that extra straw and the decision had to be made, very simply the antagonistic source was removed. But I assure anyone that thinks this was done in some sort of spiteful mind that they are quite wrong, if anything the right choice may in fact have been to have done it rather earlier before such bad feeling was stirred up, we have had more than one member who has expressed a wish not to participate any longer specifically because of this situation and, whilst not wishing to add the the criticism of Joe, those members have added more of use to the site than he has.
Whatever any one may think of the decision made, be certain of this; no-one was pleased that it was made, or that it needed to be made.
And so one chapter finishes, another begins....
Im sure if anyone wants to keep in contact with him they can...

That's true, Razor, but it saddens me even more to see valued members of the forum pulling out because someone so "controversial" couldn't see beyond his own ego. This is not meant to be a rant againt GYKD, nor jumping in the bandwagon, but some people really need to learn that internet written things can cause as much damage as something said in one's face. Or even worse, because you can go back and read it again. And again. :?

I thought GYKD's suicide posting was in poor taste and insensitive and I showed my disagreement with his sentiment in the thread. However, I feel there were one or two of the more established members that were always willing to berate him for the most minor indiscretion which could turn the indifferent against him.
The point is, as democratic and free as this forum is, we all have different levels of respect and power on this forum. Those that have most should use it with discretion. There should be no room for Ivory Towers here and pious attitudes, I don't believe this forum was founded on that sentiment. The moderators may have been prudent to ban Joe at this point in time, after all this isn't a one person show and Joe could try to monopolies threads although he did add value on many others - I just hope this isn't the start of an overbearing administration and that the more controversial or risque posters remain free to debate.

In my opinion there are other sites that can be used for controversial/risque posts. I came to this site because I was tired of reading about the sorts of opinions that are alarming or downright irresponsible. It's somewhere for the most part that I can relax and chat without having to defend or 'shrug off' people who're thoughtless or aggressive.
There is no "ivory tower" here. Just a bunch of people trying to keep a pleasant and friendly atmosphere.

As I said and others have. We didnt take this decision lightly. Its something that we did discuss at great length and to be honest at the start we were not keen on enforcing a ban. But we must remember that we all ( mods and users ) work for the greater good of the forum and the spirit of friendship and respect that has been built up over time.
Personally I think its sad that we have banned Joe but, He has had plenty of chances to alter / amend his ways but he continued to not use those chances. If he had he would still be here now.
Its not something we like doing. Debate is fine and I'm all for that and I want to see that continue as long as the forum rules are not broken then I cant see there ever being a problem.

Oh I think there are controversial posters on this site and always have been to some degree or other, depending on your definition of course. Alarming or downright irresponsible is another matter!

No. In the two years I've been an Admin, I've only had to permanently ban two people*.

Naturally. But of course, within reason and accordinging to the forum rules and regs etc.
No-one's on a power trip, and Ping's right, there are no ivory towers, just as much plain common sense and reason as we can muster to get the job done and preserve the spirit of SV650.org.

It sure is sad to see people get banned and I'm sure those doing the banning don't enjoy it.
What frustrates me though is that people come onto these forums and expect to be able to say what they want and get little or no comeback. Internet forums are not places that grant you the right to freedom of speech. People forget that. They have rules and anyone who breaks those rules, intentionally or otherwise, will have to face the consequences.
Anyway, group hug!
I'm all for group hugs!! :D
I'm with the majority here. Although GYKD did make some very contraversial comments I'm sure the decision banning him wasn't taken lightly, but as you say it had to be done. I haven't been here on the site long so I don't know what may have been said in the past that contributed to his banning but I'm sure it was done in the best interest of everyone. It's still sad tho. Saying that I really do enjoy the .org purely for the reasons that have been posted here.
It is friendly (Most of the time  )

Well his IP has been noted and banned, and people usually act in the same way, using the same style of grammar and spelling, so in the end we always cotton on.

Just got home and read this and I have to say I'm sorry to see he has been banned.
Yes, his Suicide thread was in poor taste, and I got upset for personal reasons, but he apologised for it both on the forum and in a PM to me, and as far as I was concerned then the matter was over.
I haven't really been around long enough to understand the whole history of his other controversial posts, but I do get the impression that he's fairly young, and let's be honest.............weren't we ALL attention seeking and controversial when we were young? If not downright bloody unpleasant at times................I know I was!
Ah well, this is a decision other people have had to make. Thank God that on this site I DON'T have to wield the stick.

But the point is this isnt the net it is someones site. And it is that person with his moderators who ultimately made that decision.
End of day all of us who use this site have to respect that its not our site and we are asked to abide by certain rules.
The point is Joe has been asked repeatedly over a long period of time to behave and he refused. Why in that case should he be allowed to continue to post here?

Couln't have said it better myself, I like this site becasue it is moderated. As many people have said there are many other sites that have less or almost no moderation.
As it was mentioned by someone in the other post, what about setting up an unmoderated area?
I've not been here too long either,I read some of GYKD's posts,I think they were slightly antagonistic and written for a reaction.
BUT EVERYONE should be entitled to their opinions and beliefs,I posted my replies in the "suicide thread",but I didn't hold any vendetta or grudge against the guy.
I personally feel like some of the posts accross the forum are a bit NEGATIVE at the moment, and a bit pompus.
As I just wrote in the 'Bike talk and Issues' section on the "would you...." post,we all have a common interest (most of us anyway) and thats Motorbikes and the social aspect associated with them. I hope this isn't lost,as from all the people I've 'met' and 'spoke' to on here, everyone seems cool and friendly, and I like it.

Unmoderated arguements, discussions and bad feeling would spill over to the primary forum. Lets face its this part of the forum people are here for and have enjoyed for many years, why change it?
If you want a forum where you can post trash go somewhere like visordown as stated. This is a community of friends and people with a common interest. No individual should be left repeatedly to run amok and disrupt the peace.

I dont normally reply to these sort of threads not because I dont have anything to say but because I would rather stay out of the "flaming" that follows but on this occassion I felt that I would like to add something to this...
I understand that people have their own opinions on subjects and are free to voice them in a suitable manner and perhaps in an environment where it is appropriate to raise them. If this forum and it's members were in a pub then I feel certain things would not be said and perhaps certain topics of conversation would never arise. This of course is the good and bad of an internet forum.
However in light of the topics of conversation that were discussed it became apparant that people were being offended as it perhaps was a topic that affected them profoundly (as indeed I think it did a lot of members). However the people that were expressing thier objections to the subject matter were long standing members of this forum and IMHO great contributors to this community.
I for one am very upset that certain members of the forum are now no longer going to be visiting this site especially as their contributions were of the vain of what this site stands for.. i.e helping people, offering advice, organising ride outs etc.
Just my 2ps worth

Can't we move on?
Because some did? And you don't move on by brushing things under the carpet, because it comes up again and again. if anyone's got a thing to say, get it said, then move on.
If you want to see not moving on, check out SV Rider just now with relation to the SV Race Shop and their allegedly dodgy shocks. The mods are trying to make it a taboo subject, all that means is that it comes up again, and again, and again.

Few had a good word for the person in question. So why all the gnashing of teeth?
Can't we move on?
Because some did? And you don't move on by brushing things under the carpet, because it comes up again and again. if anyone's got a thing to say, get it said, then move on.

Just gets it out of the system...
TBH, this reminds me a little of one of the recurring GYKD things. GYKD posts a topic. People answer, but other people wade in saying "Who cares", "Why is this on a bike forum", "boring"... If people are responding to the thread, then people clearly do care, and it's not so boring... If you don't care, why post?

Do outies get bellybutton fluff, but just like, trapped around it instead of inside? And for my fellow innies, have you ever pulled a bit of bellybutton fluff, and it's felt like it's attached? Nasty.

Not that I recall, though I recon if you gave me a month I'd have enough to stuff a pillow.

Mr Ed,
I would respectfully suggest that a better word might be "typical"

I don't think this is important (particularly as I don't wish anyone to be offended) and I thnk we should respectfully move on now.
.
If the person has left, then surley it doesn't matter as they won't read it (As they have left?)
Unless its one of those kind of people who say they are leaving, get everyone talking, then re-appear in a weeks time and post normally????

Daimo is questioning who the members were who left because of GYKD. Not sure GYKD can view as its not just his account thats been removed, his IP's are also blocked.

Well, could well be someone was leaving/has left because of GYKD (and assorted issues) and would now return... Not sure where you're going with this. DO you want proof that people have left
No, was just asking that all and putting my own thoughts about people who leave, then return?
Nothing intended (God im scared to say anything with an opinion now for fear of being banned????)

I have proof that people have left. However I dont feel like its appropriate to share that on the forum leaving or staying on the forum is a personal choice. It doesnt matter who they were. Wether they were long standing forum members or just readers of the forum who didnt post much. It really to me doesnt matter, people left because GYKD really really offended them. But that isnt the main reason he got banned. As stated previously Joe was banned because he constantly broke forum rules end of.
I really think its time to move on now. Its sad that we had to ban him, I wish him well.

Quite right.

Actually I think GYND getting banned is more important than peeps leaving through personal choice.
Too many many people think tact is not necessary on the internet. On the other we sometimes people take stuff on the internet rather too seriously(might even include me on the odd occasion). :)
The Interfook Ring is a great place to do battle innit? :P

It's a bad situation when people who add value to the community leave because of someone who doesn't.

Being Devil's Advocate here....Is a forum no different to your school days or work place? Where you are thrown together often with people you in truth have no time for, but are expected to be mindfull of each others feelings and point of view? :?

Well, depending on how you look at it, it's possible you've started a thread about how large Razor's thingy is. And judging by his response, it's very small :)
