Nothing special in my eyes.
749R is a lot nicer
Nothing special
How can you say that??
I want one... well after a Gixxer 600... but VERY NICE!! :

WOW very nice indeed.
How much? not that I would spend the money on it.

To me, it looks fat... But I do like it. I'd rather have a 748 though. Actually, though, I'd rather have a Desmo, and sell it, and buy a 748 with the small change.

Yeah it's a nice bike but Ducati have got a huge problem hav'nt they? They can't make a better looking bike than the 916 and it's offspring. That's why their sales are down and they are not the iconic firm they were and they made a huge mistake when they discontinued the 998.
Porsche found this with their 911 cars but were clever enough to keep it in production for decades changeing details here and there each year so as not to alienate their customers.I wonder when Ducati will learn this lesson.
The front looks like the Daytona 675. It really isn't anything spectacular, just looks like all the rest.

The MV F4 is still better looking. This is definitely slightly bulbous.

Looks like cut slicks, just a track bike???
Does that exhaust come out the top of the seat unit?????
It looks darn good.
It also looks like an angry FreeBSD mascot:

MUCH better than the 999 that it replaces, but not quite as sexy as a 916
Yumm, I do like the front end. Like a really p*ssed off, frowning R6. :D
Side and rear are not so unique, but I'm still looking for an exhaust outlet!?!?! Top of the seat unit perhaps? :?
Nobody who buys one will give a stuff about looks anyway once it's road registered.

Ducati have said that they wont be Homologating it for WSB. Instead they want a 1200cc limit for V twins in WSB and BSB

oooooh so there she is the exclusive little beauty! She may remind you of this and that etc. But one thing is for sure she is the most incredible machine known to man. Hell i would give one of Scoobs testy's to own one of those.
Gorgeous but gorgeous and what a motor! :smt119
sharris.....If that is nothing special then you for sure know eff all about motorcycle machinery. What a ridiculous comment! You trying to step in to the shoes of someone short departed from this forum?
I cannot believe some people at times.
but then again it might have been an attempt a5t wit on your part and then I shall overlook the comment.
Let's not forget chappiesand chappesses, wind tunnel design fairings oddly can appear a little more rounded. The number of race rep machines that have actually had their fairings designed around wind tunnel and aero dynamic issues is oddly very low indeed. Most simply go for the look.
The Desmo and the "9" series Ducati's are actually wind tunnel proven,( as indicated by the front aerofiols on side of fairings?) Indeed the Moto GP bike does not look the most streamlined compared with say the Yamaha, but there is no bike faster out there.
For me though it is not about fashion with this bike, it is simply the fact that Ducati have brought the nearest thing to a Moto GP bike and built if for the road. That for me is just brilliant. 8)
At the front does anyone else see the wide gaping mouth of the air duct and the even wider spooky eyes of the headlights? :?
At £37,000 its still cheaper than the NSR750 was over 14 years ago!
What a sexy looking machine! I now have a new desktop background! Cheers! 8)

I would give you one of my testies if it was kept away from me. Horrible looking thing. The bike, not my testies. They're lovely.

Doubt it in WSB. They have all but ratified the Ducati 1200cc rule now so they are building something else for that.

I agree about MCN, so all this has to be taken with a pinch of salt I suppose, but they reckon that the new 1200 that they have been working on will replace the 999. I cant remember for sure, but I think they said 2007 for model phase outs.
Looks very tasty I must say, not sure about the front but I guess it is suppossed to be a copy of the MotoGP bike. Not a 916 by any stretch but still its quite cool Ducatti are making this bike, maybe inspire other manufacturers
Like to know why they choose that exhaust idea though

Ah right OK I didnt read that bit. I guess it makes sense if they need a 1200 V twin for WSB / BSB then they'll make a 1200 roadbike and then homolgate that for racing.

Astheticaly that bike doen't twirl my propellers, looking at the specs which where posted after my comment and the way the exhausts come out of the racing hump (very clever) it is an amazing piece of enginering. My answer was in response to it being the most beautiful bike ever.
There are and have been far better looking bike IMHO.

:-k Hmmm, not sure yet!
It doesn't scream out beauty to me, like the 916 or MV F4 did.
Then again, it doesn't offend my eyes, like my first sight of a 999 did ! (Don't worry Peter, even that shape's grown on me over the years  - would love a black 999S!!)

Could have been prettier though. I'm sure Duke will sell every one.

aids airflow over rear seemingly and helps in exiting the gases
Yup, I'd say so.
Air passing over the tail causes a vacuum in the pipes, draws out gasses and therefore heat more efficiently than rear exiting pipes on just about everything else. But not much good in the British climate.
A bike for sunny days methinks. No change there then for Ducati owners! :P

If it comes with it's own paddock stand then does that mean it dosn't have a side stand?
I can't see one in the pics, maybe it's been photoshopped out or somthin'.
What are you supposed ta do when you have to pay for your petrol or nip into the shop for 20 Rothmans?
you'd have to prop it againsed a post or get someone to hold it for you.
I think it needs a nice sensible centerstand like we had during the war...

Guys....For what it is worth...every last one of the new Desmosedici was sold before a single sketch was made! The first option was given to present owners of 999R's.
I am doubtful you will see many of those offered for resale on ebay! :P

According to the Ducati website, they've made a road legal MotoGP bike.
I think it looks good, paint it in the same colours as the GP bikes on Sunday and it would look awsome.

It's a nice piece of kit, but for that money I think I'd still rather have an F4 Tamborini, it's more than a bike, it's a work of art..... I don't care that it's not 200bhp, you can't use that sort of power anyway....

I still think the original 916 is better looking.Agreed. One of the Dealers here has a 97 916 in Red and it is a thing of beauty. I have seen the DemondDeci RR and to be honest, it looks horrible & sounds horrible, sort of a VFR with rubbish cans on. I just dont see what the fuss is about to be honest.
I think the fuss is about the fact that it is 200bhp or whatever!

The second UK desmo to be delivered got binned on track as well, if I remember right, the owner got interviewed in PB. He said something brilliant like "Sure, I feel a bit sick having bent it, but I'd feel even sicker if it just sat in the garage and got ridden to the Ace once a month". :smt004

I totally admire the engineering of the Britten, but to me it's hideous, no cosmetic redeeming features whatsoever. Possibly the ugliest bike in the world. I'm totally at a loss as to why anyone would think it's visually beautiful.
xXBADGERXx
18-10-08, 10:33 PM
Well Northwind , you made me realise something .......... I don`t class it as a beautiful bike , it was the engineering that went into it that was the beauty . Function over form is a phrase that could be used quite nicely here :D

18-10-08, 10:44 PM
Aaah Zed it was a bike featured back in PB or Superbike magazine back in the early 90`s , had quite a lot of advanced features , I think they said a lot about the Carbon forks with oversized spindles and the ceramic pipes increased BHP , it was basically a shed designed bike that was quite advanced
Yeah it was the first time I saw a lot of advances that I had never heard of on one bike , Like Ceramic coated Pipes , was a bombshell to me . Did Mr Britten pass away then ?
Yeah, skin cancer, only a couple of years after his bike wowed the world.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Britten
It was more than just quite advanced. It completely shattered the mould of what people thought was necessary to make a competitive bike. Carbon all over, engine as fully stressed member (ie. no frame), girder forks, and those are just the visible bits.
It's a real shame he died - had he still been around to build competitive bikes, racing might have looked a bit different over the last 15 years.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QM_aNwaodd4&NR=1 there ya go really interesting and it sounds fantastic genius really.
