Today, during the rush hour, a nice police person in a police car caught up in slow moving traffic (about 20mph) moved over to allow me to filter past...very kewl 8) I thought :D

Yes...nice chap I thought...usually I'm very cautious about filtering past the police but as he more or less invited me to, I was naturally happy to oblige.

Done so many times. Whats more shocking is i've twice been passed by a police car doing 100mph without being pulled..... :shock:

Was filtering down Muswell Hill which has double solid white lines so i was well over them in the oncomming lane.
As i cruised along i noticed the familiar colour scheme of the govt appointed tax collectors car and tried to get back in my lane. He was watching me in his wing mirror and waved me past when he could see it was clear down the hill.

Either that or he was asking me to pull in so he could have a word but it was ambiguos enough for me to take the first view ;)

I must admit, I used to have a poor view of the police (and I still think that some of the times I got stopped were not valid reasons), but since I've been biking, I've changed my mind.
I used to see a riot van on a fairly frequent basis, and that always moved across to let me by, and when I've just been out and about, I've seen bike coppers going the other way who've always given me a nod.

It's a tough job for them tho - they have to deal with the working class masses a lot of the time, so one has to feel sympathy for them.

Me and a mate of mine blew through Sandyford village (county dublin) at about 70 one night at 4 in the morning.

And the local constabulary was so eager to wave at us he dropped his coffee on the ground. And what was very considerate I thought, was the way he ran towards his car, I assumed intending to give us some comunity policing badges to wair to school.

We were in a bit of a rush though, so we chose procede along our way, and then park our bikes behind a hedge in a field, and ehh, have a chat somewhere in the vacinity.

At times in the yard at the office where I work there can be over 30 bikes & thats in an office of roughly 150 cops per shift.

Obviously, em, when I say Sandyford Dublin there, I meant, Sandyford Dublin, Chile. Where I was in school. And drove motorbikes. And, eh, learnt that this sort of behaviour is simply not on.

Actually, one cop pulled me over, and told me he was going to give me a ticket, and then said he had decided it wasnt worth the bother, since I was only going to be dead before my court date would be up anyway.

Young fellas, and bikes. Bad combo. Older and wiser now. :wink:

(Filetering is quite illegal in the US. Which is a bit ****.)

You *have* to filter down here. Otherwise you're stuck in traffic for hours. My 12 mile ride to work would take about an hour longer if I didn't filter.
