Cheers all, it's so nice to have a bike where the suspension works properly & you can feel the difference when you adjust it, inspite of the fact that it's a 1000 it's as easy to chuck around as a moto x bike & so easy to ride, i've just got to get used to a screeming four again.

Now whats going to be the first mod.

You got to tidy up the rear end, then a nice set of pipes, i really like the look of the Z1000, my next bike could be a Z1000 or a SV1000 or maybe a Falco.

Nice bike though, enjoy.

Why not? Upright riding position, nice wide bars, little fairing. I would have thought it would be quite good around town.

how cool is this mac99 has just brought himself one of these and I am still drooling over it now!!!

seat height = okay.. slightly higher then SV
weight = perfect
handling = well from what I see of his riding since he got it fantastic!!

Very cool choice in bike ... how is that fairing though???? does it protect you enough?

You mean like these, http://upload4.postimage.org/388679/XTR_KAW_Z1000_05_RSB.jpg (http://upload4.postimage.org/388679/photo_hosting.html)

Already on order, along with an ermax undertray & bellypan.

Anna........the screen on mine is ok & quite effective but it's not the standard one it's got an adjustable bit at the top to push the windblast over your head, like this

I think new they average about £6500, unless you go to whites or somewhere similar where they get a bit cheaper, mine's a year old though but only done 2400 miles.

Not enough protection, engine will get trashed having no fairing.

My SV, the paints already starting to peel off of the casing :(

Biut of a step up from a 645 to a thou though  Maybe a 750 or something next.

I must point out that the finish on the Z is far better than that on my K5 SV was.

Just got delivery of mine last week. There's quite a few on this forum now.

I'd negotiated £6200 on a new one, but after I paid the deposit the dealer found out that Kawasaki UK had sold out of black ones. I rang round and got one from George White, but he also knew that the Blacks were scarce, and sussed that I was keen, so it cost me a bit more. However the original dealer then offered to do one of the other colours for less, so if you don't mind the blue or grey you should be able to get it for a bit over 6K OTR. I did mind the blue or grey, I minded them quite a lot. :)

To answer other questions, bearing in mind that mine's not even run in yet:

The standard screen is absolutely fine at 70, bit of wind at 80 but nothing really. At overtaking speeds there is obviously quite a bit of windrush, which is fun for short bursts, but would get annoying on the motorway. I'll see how it goes before thinking about changing the screen The vario one that foey has is the least bad of the options, but all of them damage the looks to some extent IMO.

The seat is a bit uncomfortable. You're sitting pretty much upright, with no weight on the wrists. Coming off the NC30 it's quite a change. I'm glad of a break after 30 miles. I'm hoping that either its seat or mine will break in.

It's extremely easy to ride around at low speed. You can do U turns etc almost like you're on a 125. The engines not scary, below 5000rpm it's very controllable.
At normal speed absolute cornering performance obviously won't be like a race rep, but it feels good. You can yoink on the bars and chuck it about to get a laugh out of a corner that you wouldn't normally care about.

Mad vibes through the seat at about 7000rpm. I noticed this on the demo bike as well. No problem though, just drive past it, it's smooth higher up.
General vibration all over, but not enough to be annoying so far. Ie heel plates vibrate, but the pegs are OK. Instrument console buzzes a bit lower down th e range.

Oh yes - It's got a demon inside that encourages you to ride like a hooligan - you have been warned !

I've ordered crash bungs and engine case protectors from R&G. Other mods will follow as I get bored. Those laser cans are very nice, but if everbody's getting them I'll have to go for something different. :)

I wondered how long it would take you to show up mac99....I think I'd have to fit the adjustable screen to it.. I think it looks quite sexy with it on!

...still no joy with the seat? I thought it would have got a bit better by now?

In all honesty i don't think the seats too bad, still if it does start to get on my nerves i can always put a bit of gel pad in it, still got a fair chunk left.

PoRK ChOp.... yeah the Z forum seems a bit strange at the min but i'm sure we'll get used to it, as for the back tyres, oh well can't have everything, take care matey.

To continue the thread hijack a bit longer...

Yeah, the seat could just be me not being used to it. Can't lean forward and rest my belly on the tank anymore!
The vibrating mirrors are the only other issue that it would be nice to fix.

The US based riderforums (http://www.riderforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33) site is good. Lots of useful info, and some excellent modded Zeds. A couple of not so excellent taste-bypass mods as well mind.
What's the address of the UK Forum ? My googling skills aren't up to finding it.
