Anyone else riding up to AR06 on the friday from the deep South West ?
Only 5 days to go :D
I've just booked, but I'm in Portsmouth...
Another one from Portsmouth, going up on the Friday.

I have just been looking at the map, I fancy going across country from Portsmouth. So Portsmouth, Winchester, Andover, Marlborough, Swindon, Cirencester, Gloucester, motorways to Telford, finally Shrewsbury and Montford Bridge.
We could do a lunchtime meet at Gloucester about 1pm, so the South (Portsmouth/Southampton) contingents could meet up with those from the South West. and maybe those from South Wales.
According to my autoroute, Gloucester is about 2.5 hours from Portsmouth using my route above, about 1.75 hours from Newton Abbott, and 0.75 hours from Newport. So no extreme start times for anyone.
What do people think?

Slight error, only fancy motorway to Droitwich, then A442 to Kidderminster and onto Telford. Apart from that same as before. Arrive Montford Bridge about 3:30.

Hi Ian,
Because I have not much option but to use M5 up to Bristol area I was going to go over the new Severn crossing and then pick up the A49 up to Shewsbury its ment to be a good road and I will be fed up with Motorways by then !
If thats not an option I will go with the Gloucester meet up as I would rather ride up at least part of the way with some company. :D

I was asking, in a roundabout kinda way, if anyone, other than myself, was considering riding the AR06 on the day of the main rideout, doing the rideout and then travelling back again the same day. Preferably someone in the South Wales/Cardiff area.
Looks like I'm on my own, then :cry:

I'm going up on the Friday. I'm in Swindon now, so a Gloucester meet would be fine, though it's less than an hour from me.
Iffy, that route up through Marlborough way is nice roads in places, but hectic at rush hour.
...and do beware of mobile cameras on the A449 between Worcester and Kidderminster. I got done by one back along :roll: 50 limit on quite a bit :evil:

Well I've won some panniers off e*bay, located just up the road. Hopefully I'll be able to pick em up. If not post better get a move on.
Need to look at tents..... spose that means I 'might' be going after all :shock:
Not sure what I will have at the moment as the new phone arives today. So we will see.

Liz and I are going up on Friday but we havent really sorted out when we are leaving. I've got an idea of a route I would like to take so we'll make our own way up and see you all up there.
OK... who's wants to ride up with me... I don't know where I'm going, but I'm sure there will be some nice views. If so what time and where would people be interested in meeting.
I won't be hurt if you all say no.

I am leaving Devon quite early about 10 ish as I want to be in the pub by lunch time !!
I have to do quite a bit of motorway up to Bristol so I think I will go over the new severn bridge and pick up the A49 it looks like a good route...so should be around Bristol approx 11.30 a bit early for most peeps i suppose but I want to make a nice day of it :D

Well if anyone could recomend a route then that would be great, though I don't have route finder, just multimap or map24.com...

I'm leaving from Hook after work Friday. Was going to go up M40 but could get to Swindon for 6-7ish if you want company.
I was planning to go up on Friday, leaving here (Gosport) about 10:45am, to meet Grinch (if you want) at Mick's Burger Van on the hill about 11am.
I have a route I wouldn't mind following. M27/M3, A34 up to Newbury (about 12:00), M4 to Swindon, A419 to Cirencester, A417 to Gloucester (stop about 1pm for lunch/petrol), M5 to Worcester, A442/A458 to Shrewsbury, then onto Montford Bridge for about 3ish. This should give me time to get my tent up before it gets dark.
If we meet up with anyone else, then the times may slip.

I'm now torn on whether I can make it.
I desperately want to go, but it's been an expensive few months and the bike still hasn't had a major service that it needs.
I'll think about it over the next couple of days. If I get time to do the service then it'll certainly influence my decision.

From what I gather (I work in Swindon) I'll not be in Brizzle for 6, and I don't know the meeting place (will get lost looking for it). I'll probably make my own way on the same route later.

I now have a working stove and gas for tea in the morning.... which is nice. Only just fits in one pannier though but it is quite light.

Me too, but there's not alot I can do about it at this stage, other than tighten my belt a bit. That means no real luxuries for a while.
