DanDare

A man walks up to you and says - "everything I say to you is a lie."
Is he telling you the truth or is he lying?

Biker Biggles

He's lying.

Tara

He's lying. Even though he's lying when he says "everything" he says is a lie, some of the things he says can be a lie, and this is one of them.

Well, certainly, I can't think of a better way of doing it!
So that's the answer I was thinking of. Congrats.

There were some great Mensa tests they used to have on the front of the broadsheets a few years back. What was good about them was that you could do them the hard way, or you could do them in about 2 seconds with the right technique.

What American state is surrounded by the most water?

I'd say Hawaii, as it is 100% surrounded by water, and the water that surrounds it is the biggest ocean (thus, the most water).
However, some may argue Alaska because it has the longest coastline of the US states.

is there a trick to the q?

No you are quite correct, most people when asked say Alaska forgetting Hawaii is a US State. Sorry not criptic answer for this one.

Here's a good one: 8)

During WWII, there was a bridge connecting Germany and Switzerland, and on the German side, there was a sentry tower with a guard in it. He would come out every three minutes to check on the bridge, and he had orders to turn back anyone who tried to get into Germany, and shoot anyone trying to escape without a pass. There was a woman who desperately needed to get into Switzerland, and she knew she didn't have time to get a pass. It would take her at least six minutes to cross the bridge, but she managed to do it. How?

mysteryjimbo

She walked halfway and turned round.

DanDare

She walked halfway and turned round.

Correct:

Answer: When the sentry went into the tower, she would start to cross into Switzerland, and when he came out, she would start to walk back into Germany. When he saw her, he would tell her to turn back into Switzerland.

Three methinks.
Correct

....not always. If the two ducks in front are exactly level, duck three will certainly have two in front. But then, asking one of the leading ducks how many are behind, and the answer must be "one". So. in the case of perfectly aligned ducks, the answer to your riddle must be five.

From this, we may deduce that the question was phrased incorrectly and should either have been queried by the respondent, or have read: "There are two ducks, in a random but non-aligned formation, in front of a duck, and two ducks whose formation may or may not be perfectly aligned, behind a duck. How many ducks?"

I'm grateful to this forum for allowing me the opportunity to correct this long-held error, and feel sure that (insert usual suspect's names, including socomm, spidey, Northy, GKYD, etc etc)) will be along shortly to argue the point (although we may expect Capn Nemo to just eat the ducks).
