well as good as..
was having "lunch" al fresco today .... when crikey ! what a noise and the air ambulance was overhead.. then turned and came so so low could see the pilot-
landed onthe disused cricket pitch at back of my house and picked up some woman who WALKED to the chopper..
so dunno what was wrong or waht she was doin inthe field.. !!
I jumped ontop of the shed to get a better peek..
was exciting...! and the pilot looked like a fly !!
sent them to my local paper !....
see if they published or not... and I can claim a few thousand pounds copyright !
must be frightening if one of these helicopters is flying over you in anger if you in the forces or summat-- I am sure some of you can tell me if it is as u r ex forces or current .... so much power-- and when he left-- BOOM-- gone in seconds...

I entered and exited a Chinook helicopter with blades going on Exercise.
The down draft nearly buried me in the ground and the noise was deafning.
But going hedge hoping was cool over Salisbury Plain. 8)
( Chinook is the twin prop chopper for those who didn't know )

This one made enough noise.,..
it was like shock and awe !!!... and it was friendly.
big smile like a 10 year oldat Disney world come across my face (and I am 40 !)
a lot of folk walk dogs in that field and there are ponys at one end that get fed..!
however- dont know what she was doin in ther- alone !...
re the kebabs.. discussion here with neighbours etc is if she is pregnant!.. (apologies to who she is if she isnt ) ..
I will se if the local rag to a story on it and find the full deal..
The dragged out an Air ambulance for that?
No wonder the NHS is haemorrhaging cash all over the place.

The field may have been chosen as the landing site...not because she was there.
If she was pregnant then it is a good reason to send it out. People can still look ok with serious medical needs.

Pregnant #-o , there I was thinking she was just fat
Well I am being rather cynical, I admit!
However, it seems to me that a multi-million pound helicopter was sent on a sortie to pick up a woman with a sprained ankle!
Clearly we will never know the true circumstances behind this incident, and indeed it's not every day you see a heli plonk itself down next to your house. But I'd usually expect an Air Ambulance to be called for more obviously severe incidents, rather than a woman stuck in a field.
I guess they're not allowed to carry her out of the field because they're not insured or something!

Also it can go down as a practice sortie...getting the hours up for the pilots.
If it is there...might as well use it...if they are paying the crew loadsamoney...then let them earn it!!!
Aren't all the Air Ambulances funded through charity and not by the NHS at all ?

this is !!....
or it may be subsidised by NHS but it does say on the pic on the side - funded by donations..
but then like Billy says theres an issue there too- we all (neighbours) dunno why it came-! now- if she is preggo and in shock from a falll then maybe yea its a neccessity -!! but it could be on a multi pile up on the M6
I mean - theres a gate on the house next to me to the filed - she cudda walked through there down the garden and to an ambulance parked on my front !!!....
like I say may be summat in the Sentinel tonight

An air ambulance landed in my school once, to tend to a pupil with a very mild sprained ankle. Not really life threatening stuff.
Mind you, I believe that the kent air ambulance service at least is a charity, so maybe this is one area where we can't slate the NHS.
It's quite possible that she was picked up walking suffering from anaphylactic shock - she could well have been stung by a wasp in the field - maybe the ambulance crew didn't feel confident in their ability to treat her or transport her to hospital in time.
I've suffered from it (nut allergy) and it is frightening how quickly you go down. For me, it was five minutes and i could not breathe. Luckily lived just down the road from the doctor's surgery and he had me right as rain within an hour.

Just to clarify a few points. All air ambulances are funded by Charity and charity alone. They recieve NO funding whatsoever from the NHS.
The pilots on the Thames Valley one are all ex RAF pilots who have many hundreds of thousands of hours flying to their names. They do not need to do jobs just to get the experience. I assume it is the same for the Air Ambulances across the country.
There could be many many reasons why that woman was picked up by the Air ambulance. Hypotension, Anaphylaxis to name a couple. I would also be careful about posting her picture on here or anywhere for that matter. She was obvioulsly ill and just because she was picked up by a helicopter does not mean that she is agreeing to having her picture posted on the website.
Still I agree that seeing the Air Ambulance land in your back garden (or near enough) is exciting. I however see the one around here so often that it is not worth a second glance now.
