Hi guys!
Help me out, I'm after suggestions for a holiday. Looking to go away for a week or so with my lady to somewhere which fills the following criteria:
- hot
- quiet
- not busy
- not built up
- on, or very close to a beach
- water sports (no jokes..! ;-) )
- hopefully not costing the earth...
etc..
TIA!
Lee.
One of the former yugoslavia type places. Bulgaria, or Grand Canaria. Sharm el Shiek in Egypt is ok, but getting a bit full of muppets nowadays. Or Elait in Isreal
Malta or Gozo - some quiet areas there and not too far...

What's the budget? Dubai is very nice but pricey. I'm going to Puerto Pollensa in Northern Majorca this summer - very nice, nowhere as busy as south or west of the island.

If you're not fussy where you go, get a "last minute" package holiday to wherever. They're basically cancelled ones and the price drops really low near the deadline. I bought one something like 18 hours before the flight for me and my then gf and it was about £200 per person, flight, delivery to and from the airport and half-board in a 3 star hotel for a week in Menorca (away from the main touristy bit). Brilliant holiday and dirt cheap. We found it on teletext, don't know if they still do them.
Failing that most tourist destinations in Spain/Greece have "quiet", classier, not to mention cheaper hotels and bars 2/3km away from the main touristy bit. Hire a scooter and you're laughing ;)

Gran Canaria & Tenerfie are almost as good as holidaying in London if thats what you want.
If you want peacefull go to the north of Tenerfie - Santa Cruz and the like or try Lanzarote. Its the least built up of the islands.
I lived there for 4 yrs so feel free to ask away if this is interesting to you.
i've just returned from agia pelagia in Crete.
http://www.explorecrete.com/crete-east/Agia-Pelagia.htm
i love the place, i first went in 1985 with my parents and have returned 5 times since. it has build up from then, but it largely remains unspoiled/unspoilt. the local food is amazing, i insist you try El Greco restaurant (mainly because i'm a friend of the owners!) if you like fresh fish you'll not find better.
its one of those places you almost dont want other people to know about in order for it to remain as un commercialised as possible
ps the link i've provided isn't the best i'll admit. i did a quick google, but you might want to try your own delving
oh and pps i've not returned the other 5 times with my parents! they let me holiday on my own now!!

What he said, i was out in Tenerife for 6 weeks, not expensive either (student buget) stayed in Puerto De La Cruz. It's quiet and with a beach, and within driving distance of Las Americas where you can do water sports and diving etc. (If you go, take you lady out to see the dolphins with one of the boat expiditions i went on one and you get to jump in the sea and have lunch and stuff)
Sammy
to be honest with the footie season starting soon you will be able to get good deals where ever you might want to go .. Egypt is fantastic for water sports.. diving etc etc and isnt too horrendous on the old wallet..
Somewhere in southern Italy - cheap to fly on EasyJet to Bari or Brindisi. It's quiet - and hot - not sure about water sports though.

If you fancy somewhere a bit diff try Essaouira.
You can fly in to Marakesh pretty cheap these days and it's worth spending a day or two there (I've stayed in the Hotel Ali a few times, $7 a night with a decent breakfast, mind you it is a bit of a pit but you do get a free massage too ;)
Essaouria is on the coast a couple of hours away and it's really nice and not to spoilt.

Yeah Egypt!!
I went to Luxor in Novermber, saw the valley of the kings (where Tut Ankh Amon is/was burried, amongst others), though saying that, King Tut was a bit of a fake
(he changed his name to become Pharaoh, it wasnt his birth right, and didn't really contribute much to egypts development anyway.
We also went to the Valley Of the Queens, Queen Hatshepsut's temple, Luxor Temple and Karnak temple (one of the largest complexes in the world)... An they aint kidding!!
plus you can still see lots of the original paint on the heiroglyphs there.
The Egyptians are very friendly, they cant do enough for you, though a little baksheesh usually helps too.
Granted, Luxor dosn't have a beach but once you've been there you WILL want to return, and don't let the military police with their AK47's every 20 meters put you off!!
Luxor Airport is a military one too!! I saw two Russian Hind helicopters and a fighter jet, then theres the armoured vehicles and the armoured Nile Patrol boats too!! (very exciting!!!)
Oh yeah, and we saw the Colossus of Menmon too!!
But if you're looking for a relaxing holiday, then Luxor Won't be 'your bag'.
A 6:00am waking up time isn't unusual, I had to get up At 04:00am just for the balloon ride over the Nile... I'm glad I went though because it is an amazing place!!
Why not go to Luxor, and walk where Alexanda, Marc Anthony and Cleopatra amongst many other historic icons have walked too?! (oh and napoleon).
Oh yeah, durin the woar... Rommel and Monty, they we're there too!! Well, sort of.
But that was North Africa, Alexandria, El Alamein etc.
Oh yeah!! and all of the ancient graffiti all over the walls, even original mud brick that they used for scaffolding and hoisting even BIGGER brick is still there.
Soz i'm 'off on one again' but thats Egypt for ya

Somewhere on the Algarve?
Forget it... too built up, not exactly cheap... If Portugal is an option, I'd go for Alentejo. It's just north of the Algarve, but on the west coast. Depending on the exact location, it can be way cheaper, less built up, and quite less crowded.
Suprised no ones mentioned Croatia - Easyjet have just started flying in to Split and Rijeka. Go with Rijeka - the south is good as well but the north is quieter and a little more laid back. Book a flight and hire car and do some exploring - or pick an island or two and layabout - maybe Krk, the island of love. The place is aboslutely stunning - not as developed as Spain, France and Italy or Greece - but retains the traditional character the med used to have.
Spain...
