Agreed. Thought there had to be two flashes.

Don't think you'll hear about it.

14 day countdown starts now!!!

It could be one of a new breed of cameras which identify your number plate and check the time that you have travelled between the two sensors and then photograph you if you have exceeded the speed
Watch out for the postman, the law says that they should notify you as soon as practicable and in any case within 14 days

A21, camera..where? Was it the one by the Tunbridge wells/Southbrough turn off? If so, thats a truv velo and only flashes once as it uses and induction loop buried in the road, like the new breed of Pigeon box camears

Truvelos use infra-red flash to avoid blinding drivers. I didn't think that any forward-facing cameras used a visible flash for this reason.

There used to be one of these on my route into work. I'd speed past it on the bike every day, knowing that I was safe.

Was this 'forward facing camera' on your left or your right? If it was on your right then the chances are that it's a rear facing camera for the other carriageway. I've noticed that these will often flash once if a car approaches them at speed. There's one on the North Circular near Chiswick Roundabout that does this.

Camera is forward facing on the left...yes it is the one at T/wells/southborough, and it did flash...straight into my eyes...but the sun too was in my eyes at that point :? :(

Further to the above - it could be a 'cross-carriageway' camera - ie your side of the road but angled to be rear facing catching people going in the opposite direction - I think a few counties use them as motorists are less likely to look for cameras on the opposite carriageway.

I thought gatsos [rear facing cameras] couldnt be used to catch traffic on the other side of the road.

So if its forward facing for you, they cant be used against you. :?

And I always believed they had to flash twice too. :?

Im sure someones said that on here before. But Id be checking the mail anyway.

hopefully it was a dummy unit

truvelos flash once, it's not an infra-red flash, it's a normal flash covered by a filter which removes the glare. the flash lasts a predetermined time and they can calculate the distance from the little strips in the road

you might be unlucky :(

There was a truvelo near me set up wrong that flashed in your eyes - probably failed to fit the filter right. Had to go through police, camera "safety" partnership and council - no joy (or even a response) then I contacted local papaer and my MP and it got sorted very quickly.

If it was a truvelo (a big round lens on it and "truvelo" written in blue on the grey pole it's on) you're done, it only needs one flash and it can do both sides of the road - front on one side, rear one other side (provided the under-road electrics are installed on both sides)

If was a gatso (a square hole) you're in the clear as they can't reliably measure you from the front.

Try telling that to the Truvelo in Ashford a while back, absolutely blinding purple light in the dark!

Gatos cant get you face on, but this wasnt a Gatso.
