Soft git, you did a tandem jump, It is much more fun to do the course and fall out on your own accord.

I did something like 40 jumps in the 70s and then one day fell down a slit trench that had been left on the ww2 airfield covered with a couple of rotting planks and landed in a heap on my back 20 ft below ground level. Back injury has prevented me from doing another jump since.

Tandems are fun 'cos there a no-brainer. Though I agree with you (Timwilky) that solo freefall is one of the most amazing things you can experience.
Just hanging in the sky (well thats what it feels like).

Made a really bad error coming into land once (ram air canopy) and went in really hard. Luckily the oil seed rape field slowed me down and broke my fall. Had I landed 6ft to the left of where I did, I would have hit a concrete road and probably have been toast.

Completely wrecked my confidence and only did about another 5 after that.
I've still got a suit, helmet, alti etc and I'm hoping I'll jump again one day, not had a strong enough urge yet.

Nutty - don't let this scare you, the tandem instructer will have done thousands of jumps and will put you right in the middle of the DZ soft as anything.

I know some military guy who believs that bike riding is more dangerous than parchute jumping. I tend to agree with him :)
