I'm sure you've all seen the newspaper articles by now... police chase crook who "hides" on roof. Police send food and drink (which isn't good enough, crook wants a bottle of coke, not a can) and ciggies.
Where I come from the cops would have teargassed and shot him down with rubber bullets... human rights my *rse!

The Human Rights Act was designed to protect the vulnerable, now it's just being exploited by every scumbag and 2 bit lawyer out to make a quick buck

I thought human rights were to shelter, food (bread acts as food) and water. I didn't realise coke was on the human rights list too  . I think that any criminal should be given the basic human rights, depending on crime. but then we go into the territory of deciding what criminal deserves what and what is right for each crime.
The downright evil part of me thinks that rapists and murderers deserve no human rights as the have not acted humanely themselves and thus any human rights should be earnt or provided by friends or family and not the state, therefore if they do not work, or have anyone to provide for them then they starve or get bread and water and nothing more.
I think that the UK takes a very nanny appraoch to everything and cops do need to treat propper criminals with propper restraints such as rubber bullets and tear gas but they are so worried about getting suied that they wont do it.

Yep, like most things, what seems a good idea for all is exploited by the crims and the rich via their lawyers. If he'd slipped off the roof he'd have received a nice payout no doubt. I'm sure the Human Rights Act has saved or enhanced many lives justifiably, its the application of the Act by the bleeding hearts - like Cherie Blair - that should be questioned. This guy's innocence wasn't exactly in question - and if he was worried he'd hardly have the arrogance to send the can of Pepsi back for a bottle. The lunatics really are running the asylum.

Very true and most likely, i think some people make a profession out of claims. Slipping in supermarkets and such like just to get a nice little pay out, although some aren't exactly little.
Anyway, what are human rights exactly??

Yah... 3 grams right after the KFC. He then complained that he couldn't get it up when the free prostitute was brought along and he demanded some Viagra...

Well I guess their theory was if he was stuffing his face and smoking his head off, he wasn't going to be causing much more trouble to anyone else? :P

He will now sue the cops for damaging his health by giving him ciggies. And not providing a healthy option on the food front.
Oh and one of the police negotiaters is sueing his employer as he had to breath in the ciggy smoke.
Lunatics mount takeover bid for asylum

When he started lobbing bricks the cops should have shot him dead.
I mean why not?
They shoot plenty of innocents dead for far less.
Who remembers Harry Stanley with a chair leg in a plastic bag? Well they shot him so why not shoot a real crim who is actually throwing missles at you that could kill you if they hit you just right?
Seems justifiable to me.
Or was it cos the media were in attendance and after all the recent shootings and killings that the cops have participated in they want to show their soft and cuddly side??

Tad harsh Spidey... Harry Stanley was known and ignored warnings . If someone points a gun at me a orders me to drop what I'm carrying I'd drop everything including my guts

It really pains me to have to say this, but it was nothing whatsoever to do with the Human Rights Act.
Where I come from the cops would have teargassed and shot him down with rubber bullets... human rights my *rse!

Nah, South Africa :-)
We have these laws in place to stop the police from abusing their powers. This again is the media reporting the tit bits from a story to embed their views upon us rather than giving us all the facts. Do we really want the police to have the power to shoot and gas people becuase they believe they have committed a crime !!! I for one dont. I dont particularly want the police knocking on my door asking to come and identify my sons body as they shot because they thought he was stealing from a car, which turned out to be his own. People who know the law and their rights and are crims will always take the p*ss. I suppose they see it as their own little victories against the the system.
The police do abuse rule of law if it suits them for an easy out. A classic example of this is the old chap who was heckling the labour party at their conference and the police arrested him under the "prevention of terrorism act". This act a little over a month old and already been used by the police totally inappropriately.
You only have to read peppipoo to see how the police dont strictly stick to the way they are supposed to deal with speeding motorists.
We should always be wary of the freedoms we seem so willing to give away. Once they are gone they are hard to get back.

Ideally somewhere south of Euston, reasonably placed for the underground... I'm only there for one night, so it doesn't have to have much in the way of facilities, but every time I choose my own hotel it turns out to be a festering slum :)
(edit: I can't work the internet, this obviously was meant to be in a different thread)
