Ideally somewhere south of Euston, reasonably placed for the underground... I'm only there for one night, so it doesn't have to have much in the way of facilities, but every time I choose my own hotel it turns out to be a festering slum. Or, as last time, a place more used to charging by the hour than by the night.
There's an Ibis right next to Euston station.

When I travel for business I only use the chains, Premier, Travel Inn or Ibis.
Maybe a tenner more than the cheap places but clean and I've never missed a night's kip.

B*gger beat me to it
Try the Penn Club in Bllomsbury. It's more of a hotel than a club. VERY quirky, run by the Quakers, so no alcohol allowed. It's got the world's best collection of non-matching furniture, and squeaky floorboards, but last time I was there it was cheap.

i use the holiday inn express in bloomsbury less than 10 mins from euston ithink its about £70 for a double room or if you go 20 mins further out (by underground) towards lets say walthamstow prices come down to £50
