Nice road recommendations in the Bakewell area?

Hello! Hope you don't mind a visit to your section from a Soho Massiver...? :D

I'm going up to the Peak District for a few days later this week (final destination - Little Longstone, near Bakewell) - and if the weather's still good I'll probably go on my bike.

Just wondering if there are any "must do" roads up there while I'm in the area? I'll probably bore my pants off on the M1 for a while, just to make some headway (coming up from London), but I've not decided on a route post-M'way yet.

Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks!

PS: It's my Mum & Dad I'm going to stay with (they're on a 2 week holiday there) - so I won't really be doing rideouts as such (they don't like going 3-up on my bike) - more looking for an interesting route from the M1 and back again.

A6 South Bakewell to bikers Mecca Matlock Bath for a start - may be quite a few bikes there midweek in this weather.

A6 North to Buxton, then you can either do the famous cat and fiddle, or the much underrated A5004 Buxton to Whaley bridge (one of my favourites) - cracking biking road, then back down A6 from Whaley Bridge to Bakewell.

Hey Cazza,

I live in Whaley Bridge so if you want an escort i'd be happy to oblige. If your in Bakewell I would head North on the A6 towards Buxton and at Ashford in the Water cut across to Calver then out towards Sheffield and follow signs to Hathersage and Castleton. From there go through Winnets Pass ( a limestone gorge very steep but great fun) towards Chapel en le Frith. Head then to Whaley Bridge and back to Buxton on the forementioned A5004 "Long Hill". From Buxton is a short blast back up the A6 to Bakewell. Its a route I do alot as I love all the roads and should take about 60/90 minutes.

Thanks chaps. The forecast looks good at the moment (though they do lie quite often). Current plan is to go on the bike... so hope to try out your routes.

Mr F Bean - may take you up on that offer. I'm travelling up on Wednesday. You may be on the South Goes North rideout on Saturday, when I'll be doing my own the South Goes South rideout. However, perhaps we can swap details in case. You'll have PM shortly.
