Ah! RAF Cosford... Spring camp 1995. Those were the days... except we didn't even get a flight in anything at that one - bloody disappointing!

You've done very well then. I had something very similar a few years back (Fuji Finepix something or other) and had a delay of what felt like a few seconds on the shutter - I got lots of pics of empty sky
I've posted a few pics of the Biggin Hill airshow in here -

Yep shutter lag is a problem, i had a nightmare of a time at mallory park a few weeks ago like you say lots of empty track pictures. The air show pictures are abit poo aswell but are cut and magnified on the pc.
i like your pictures just goes to show the quality of cameras

I used to be based at Cosford but I've moved now. I was there for one airshow but no eurofighter. Was the Chinook helicopter there doing its display? That is impressive and a must see.

The most boring helicopter flight I ever experienced was in a Chinook. Don't get me wrong - it is a very impressive aircraft, even more so since the American designers managed to fix the very serious problems that plagued the first model.
However, I'm afraid to say, that flying around in circles, picking up and dropping off large concrete car-sized weights wasn't very inspiring for a 16 year old Cadet - as I was then.
However, you're right - still the only aircraft capable of carrying its own weight again.
I once had the pleasure of a flight in a rather sorry looking ex-Russian Army Mil-8
It had to use the runway to (taxi) takeoff and never got above about 500 feet for the entire 20 minute flight. One or two of the windows where missing and there was a very strong smell of hypoid oil inside the helicopter.
There where no headsets inside, just ear defenders.
Apperently the door fell off mid flight a few weeks after I flew in it.

If you get a chance to see the air display that they do then it is worth going for a gander, after working with them for 4 years and seeing stuff they lift all day, I was impressed to see how they can throw a big chunk of metal around the air. and luckily the display involves no lifting at all.
