Can anyone please recommend one - near the centre, would rather pay a bit more for a nice gaff than do it on the cheap.

TIA

when you say "near the centre", where do you mean? near l'arc, l'eiffel, champs elysees....?

mind you all them there landmarks are very close to each other and the metro being probably one of the best underground networks in the world it woul;dn't really matter!

try le meridien Hotel Prince de Galles - Champs Elysees. its actually on george V avenue, but is very close to the champs. its a few quid, but you get what you pay for. very nice hotel

Hotel Bel Ami is really nice. Located in St Germain which is a great area for restuarants etc and just across the bridge from the centre.

It's not amazingly cheap, but for central Paris and the quality, it's not bad.

I use the Baltimore on Av Kleber so half way between the Arc de Triomphe and the Eifel Tower, but I guess you want something around Pigalle

George V (http://www.fourseasons.com/paris/) is the upmarket option, but worth it.
