OK, I recently got a new K6. Comes with a black frame as all SVs have since...ooh...K4 models?

Asked the dealer to fit R&G crash protectors.

http://www.curium.org.uk/images/bike/randg.jpg

As you can see the connecting block used doesn't match the frame.

On this page (http://www.rg-racing.com/RGProducts/productgallery.aspx?sku=cp0138bl&page=1#) R&G say connecting blocks are anodised black to match the frame.

So I phone them up and they tell me that actually black blocks are an optional extra which will cost me £20 each. They do not sell them with the crash protecter kit as standard.

So if you have an SV K4 onwards not only will you be stuck with 2 silver blocks you'll have to fork out £20 each for matching black blocks!

Shoddy customer service by anyones standards but especially if you consider that every new SV comes with a black frame.

COMPLAIN COMPLAIN COMPLAIN.

Take the bike back & speak nicely but firmly to staff until you get what you want. Quote the R&G site, take print outs. Phone R&G & confirm if indeed the black is an 'extra'.

If you stand your ground long enough they will back down & change the silver spars to the black. If they didn't tell you that the spars were silver I'd mention it & use it as a bargaining tool. Okay "you should've asked" is what they'll probably say but the pictures you saw were black & THEY never told you otherwise.

You'd expect a dealer to know this & be upfront with you.

Good luck & keep us updated.

Don't settle for anything less that what you want.

It was R&G who told me the black blocks are extra!!

I told them about their web-site and they said they'll get it amended.

Going back to the dealer to have them removed, just phoned them about getting my original engine bolts.

R&G can can get lost. I dunno if I just spoke to some phone monkey who couldn't be bothered but I'm not happy. This is why British manufacturing is dying on its **** and with attitudes like that I wouldn't lift a finger to save them, I work too hard for my money to accept such shoddy customer service!

speak to your dealership again mate i think they'vbe ordered the wrong bits...

Mine came with the anodised blocks at no extra charge. Also they may have fitted them wrong because mine go horizontally from the bolt at the right end of yours to the bolt at the front of the engine. EDIT: I also got my original bolts handed back to me as well

Seems strange to me. R&G usually have an excellent customer service with people who actually listen to you when you complain or have a query. Maybe you've been unlucky or its changed, but I've known them to take on board comments and suggestions and change their products accordingly.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the future their products change, if they are aware that all new SVs come with a black frame.

look at R&G website (http://www.rg-racing.com//showproducts/Crash_Protectors/Suzuki_Crash_Protectors/SV650_Crash_Protectors.aspx),

The k5 (Black Blocks) are the same [price as the K3/K4. The £20 extra are for the crash protectors for fitting with lowers. Sounds like your dealer has messed up

I actually phoned R&G about 12pm today and was told over the phone that I'd need to pay them £20 per block if I wanted black ones.

If someone else wants to phone them to see if I had some phone monkey that gave me misinformation that would be great.

Their number is 0870 2206 380

Post their reply please.

I'll second that. There was a thread on here not long ago about a crashed bike with its R+Gs mounted that way and the rad was damaged in the crash. With them mounted between the middle and front bolts the rad should be kept off the floor.

I think that bike was mine, and it's an SV1000 - the mounting is different to the 650

The radiator on the SV (1000 or 650) sticks out so far that it's almost a certainty that it'll hit if the bike goes down. When I had the 650 & flattened a jaywalker at 5mph, the rad got sprung to one side by an inch or so

IMHO it was R&G that have made a mistake. We have kits in for the silver frame and the black frame bikes and both are the same cost, although on one or two occasions R&G have sent us the wrong kit.

TBH i have always raced with R&G's and so far they have saved alot of damage..good product - although they cant save everything and those that have said they are no good possibly would have suffered the same damage with another make

Is there no chance of simply spraying the blocks matt black with a tin of PJP or similar?

A response from R&G:

CP0122BL SV650 up to K2, silver blocks, £70
CP0123BL SV1000 all years, silver blocks, £70
CP0123BL SV1000 all years, black blocks, £70, need to specify black as vast majority of sales are silver. We have a batch of black ones ready on the shelf.
CP0124BL SV650 K3 onwards, FULL SUZUKI LOWERS, no cutting, silver blocks behind panel, £90
CP0133BL SV650 K3-K4, silver blocks, £70
CP0138BL SV650 K5-, black blocks, £70
When somebody phones us and says he has bought a bike with silver blocks on it and he wants them black, we levy a charge of £20 for this anodising service, as we will of course use his blocks and not new ones off the shelf.
We don't employ any telephone monkeys, just real people who want to help.

Looks like your dealer may have cocked up and not ordered the black blocks.

My dealer's spoken to R&G and has ordered a pair with black blocks. The lady he spoke to said they've only recently started doing them. He'll swap mine over at the 1st service next week :)

It would seem that the dealer was unaware that black blocks were available for SVs now.

PS. Why do they not have a different product code for the SV1000 crash protectors with black blocks? Seems like that could help the situation rather than relying on someone making a note to send black blocks.

Result then

I would put money on the fact that your dealer is trying to cover himself, I'm willing to bet that R&G have been offering the black blocks since the black frame appeared.

As others have pointed out, curium's bike is a 1000, and the blocks are not the same between the 650 and the 1000. As I understand it, curium has them mounted correctly.

Correctomundo - my SV1000 has them mounted the same as Curiums (although mine do actually match the frame colour  )

I requested R&G protectors for two new K6 SV650S from our dealer, both were fitted in the more "horizontal" position, both came in black to match the frames, supplied and fitted for £75 each but I did not get the orginal bolts back (may have to enquire about that).

Perhaps if you were to get ALL the facts and speak to the people as involved you might get a full appreciation for what is happening before opening your mouth and making your self look a fool. Also it isn't good to tarnish a brand on the internet. You are the first to moan whenever there are reports of SJM buggering something up arnt you?!?
